Zombieland - 7/10
I'm surprised that I enjoyed this given that I hate Jessie Eisenberg but I actually found it pretty funny and Emma Stone <3.

Life - 6/10
It was ok but nothing more.

Free Fire - 8/10
I couldn't stop laughing the whole cast was amazing; I thoroughly enjoyed it even though the ending was predictable.

Seeing Ghost in the Shell on Monday.

Antibirth (2016)- Odd movie. Not sure if I loved it but I enjoyed more than I thought I would and the ending was memorable. Pretty much a movie about two trashy women in their 30's (one is pregnant) going around doing drugs and drinking. Don't want to say too much as to not spoil, but fans of weird stuff should give it a shot. A good movie to watch late at night while stoned or drunk that makes you ask yourself "what the hell am I watching?". On Netflix if interested.

I'm seeing Life, Ghost in the Shell, and Power Rangers, all on Tuesday. Send all of your strength. I may drink a lot of Vanilla Coke to help me get through the day.

Trainspotting 2 FINALLY opened in Canada, and it's across the city! So I'll finally see that next week.

Free Fire is supposedly coming out on the 21st here, so that'll be nice.

And Personal Shopper is in the arthouse cinema later this month.

But let's be real. The Fate of the Furious in IMAX will be the true showstopper.

I'll write out a bit more about Free Fire, but it was fecking amazing.

Jerry Maguire, unfortunately mediocre romantic comedy (dramedy?) that even dear old Mr Cruise can't save. Boring, kinda bad acting, fair bit of bad acting, predictable, but not bad enough to be interesting. Very 90s film though.

Read the book years ago when I heard Scorsese was planning on making this movie. The book really resonated with me, especially since I grew up in a christian family, but I unfortunately feel the movie didn't live up to it. It's almost as if Scorsese had too much respect for the source material. The story unfolded pretty much like the book, but missing the inner monologues of the characters (even though there was some voice over), it didn't feel as poignant. Things should have been shaken up a bit to fit more to film's strengths. There was some lovely cinematography though, great use of atmospheric/ambient music and some good performances. 3/5

Only saw 4 movies in March, so it was a bummer of a month on the movie side for me. That being said, Black Sails series finale tomorrow night. If you aren't watching that show, you're doing yourself a disservice. Some of the best production values and performances on TV.

Those 4 new movie watches in March, in order of how I enjoyed them:
1. Logan
2. This is Spinal Tap
3. Beasts of No Nation
4. Solace

At least 3 out of the 4 were top tier imo. Solace was merely ok.

Going to see Beauty and the Beast tonight.

Rewatched Dr Strange and now Civil War. Damn I still love these movies, the Bucky/Cap/German Police fight is so awesome, and Strange still is boss of the MCU.

Ok, after careful consideration, I have determined that BvS: Extended Edition is the greatest CBM of all time. It's not just because of Snyder's mastery of the imagery, but also his use of cinematic language. This is not a movie for lazy viewers or multi-taskers. Also, the actors all put in good work.

Visually stunning movie that is lackluster in ever department. Any of the cartoons featuring the characters in BVS are better and worth more of an investment.

Batman mowing down bad guys and branding them like cattle? Check

Superman being mopey check

Lex Luther being the worst on screen villain in the past 5 year check.

Snyder has no respect for the source material. He just jacks cool scenes from the comic and put them ins movie with no context or clue as to why they are so good to begin with.

Keep him away from comic book movies.

Jackie - Pablo Larraín

I was extremely impressed by the recreation of the era. Not that I have lived in it, but there's a certain type of authenticity that really puts us there. Not just costumes and or set designs, etc.. The way the story is told, the pondering style, the framing, the weight of the words of the characters. I absolute adored that aspect of it. This is great movie-styling. The film itself is a bit meandering, lacks focus of what is trying to achieve. Still, Natalie Portman is magnificent in it. Less of drama, more of a stylish exercise. A serene one.

Oh Netflix how I've missed you. Archer has a new season and there are a ton of movies I've been wanting to catch so why did I start with this (maybe I April fooled myself)

The Money Pit I remember seeing this with my parents as a kid. I think they loved it but fast forward to now and its about as mediocre of an 80's comedy as you can get. Sure it has some gags but it really wasn't worth revisiting.

Looking backward I logged 19 movies last month which was very horror oriented. Guess my mood wasn't into anything else.

Honorable mentions for Phantasm 2 through Ravager because they were an awesome surprise.

Many people at the screening I went to literally jumped up when the credits hit saying "Oh god, let's get the fuck out of here." Not just a few of them, the majority of the 60-80 people in there. It was agonizing.

good on you man. I only think it's the best comic book movie of 2016 (and best cinematic universe comic book movie). Responded to Logan a lot better for instance. but yeah i admire its ambition and visuals a lot more than these other middle of the mall shits.

yeah I can't help but wish it was more focused. but Micah Levi's soundtrack really helped the meandering nature of the film. And that scene where they show the filming of her white house tour for example was really well done. Great period authenticity.

Pretty interesting choice not even showing JFK's face too, or having only a few lines of dialogue from him.

For me, Malick reached the precipice of insanity with Tree of Life, melding everything perfectly into this grand expression. After that, he promptly stepped off that cliff into the void.

Thin Red Line is GOAT Malick for me. Every once in a while The New World creeps in as well, but TRL prevails.

Tree of Life is a masterpiece too, as flawed as it may be with those scenes of Sean Penn looking braindead.

That movie both managed to get great reviews AND a bunch of boos at Cannes. They boo some pretty dope movies though so whatever.

Saw Trainspotting 2 yesterday. Was expecting a decent movie but I came out of it loving it. It was a great nostalgia trip and really added a layer to the characters and proved to be a great finale to their arcs. Two scenes that stand out to me were the

choose life scene

and the ending. Had a really good time with this one. 8/10

Even if Song to Song sucks, I'm still in for Radegund. That movie sounds amazing.

Malick's return to WW2, August Diehl in the lead role, apparently more narratively straightforward than his past few movies.

Lubezki is obviously extremely talented, one of the best in the game right now, but something about his movies sometimes rubs me the wrong way. Just get this artificial feeling, like a pretty picture with no substance behind it. I put it more on directing I guess, I just want him attached to a more traditionally shot movie. He's just too showy.

I mostly just think he's very one-dimensional and has no real sense for decent characterization (and is a pretty bad director of actors, tbh), but I find most accusations of -isms nowadays are often overblown and are typically an example of bending reality to fit an agenda, rather than the inverse. To me, Raimi is the only director who had a sense for how to blend campiness and seriousness (even in SM3, fucking fight me nerds) in an aesthetically cohesive way, not to mention he simply knew how to wring characterization out of small moments and interactions.

tbh, being the best comic book movie is a bit like being voted ladies' man at the Brony Convention, but that's a whole other conversation.

Edit: Lubezki's lensing is likely what is going to be remembered of Malick post-Tree of Life, let's be real.
