Newegg: Gran Turismo 6 (PS3) listed for November 28th release date

Forgot to mention Forza Durango, which apparently looks "life like." Releasing an up-resed GT for PS4 would damage the GT brand. Do you guys remember that GT vs Forza thread? It led to some heated discussions.

How about a reverse PS3 GT move: release GT6 on PS3 and make a direct copy of it for PS4 with a handful of PS4-level cars and maybe advanced weather or something like that. it would be PS4's Prologue.

I wonder how a high res GT6 running on PS4 would compare to DriveClub, a game made from the ground up for PS4....

why would it run worse compared to DriveClub and in any case, completely different games.

You could have DriveClub and GT6 within month of each other, or two... DriveClub for launch in September/October and GT6 at Xmas.... games barely sell after first 1-2 months anyway.

And as I said, engine built for PS4, can scale back to PS3... just like what QD have been talking about.

With Forza getting trounced until Forza 4. Yes... quite an awesome thread!

I just don't see the reason to make gt6 on ps3. They have done a lot to gt5 and its fine the way it is just do more dlc for gt5 and make gt6 for ps4.

There is absolutely no reason to make GT6 for PS3 now.

Wait a year after driveclub and release it for PS4, PD.

Meanwhile make Omega Boost 2.

I will buy it at high price.

I am not confident in PD to make this work on the PS3. GT5 was a rollercoaster of visual fidelity. While I enjoyed the game and put a ton of hours into it, I eventually stopped playing altogether because of it.

Their "vision" is too big for the PS3. So at least this guarantees I will not be purchasing GT6. I know what this generation offers, I have seen it for almost 8 years now.

My Fanatec will need to be used for something else.

But I assume this is just a dumb placeholder. I would think Sony would need all the big guns to go head to head with MS this holiday.

Scaling engines is a waste of time in the exclusive first pary console space, especially for 1 game. I don't know what the guys at Quantic Dream are doing but it sounds like a completely moronic idea. What are the scaling back specifically? The shaders? the physics? the level design?

And DriveClub needs to enjoy a full year worth of sales on PS4. You don't see Microsoft releasing Gears of War one month after Halo. It is an asinine idea.

"Hey guys, here's our brand new console! Isn't it awesome?"

"And here's a new game from our biggest franchise... on our old console!"

We still don't know what they are scaling back. An engine is a very broad term...Whatever their PS4 game is, it will blow the living shit out of Beyond, that's for sure.

I doubt this will translate well into a racing game. We already know what happens when racers made on high end machines are scaled back to weaker hardware.(30 FPS and shittier graphics)

If they get GT7 out in 2014 for PS4 this is a fine decision. I am more worried about the quality of the game than what platform it's on. This will be the first GT I haven't bought day one, I will be waiting for feedback on this one (if I have the willpower LOL).

I get the impression that the only way to launch a full GT game on PS4 at or near the launch of the console would be to port the GT5 engine to PS4, re-use all the premium assets, add more premium cars and tracks, and let the PS4's grunt tidy up the jaggies/low res shadows/other graphical issues.

If this was the case, they could easily put the same game on PS3, with all the new premium assets, but maintaining most of the graphical problems of GT5.

So this is option 1: a cross-generation release of a new GT that would amount to new content for PS3 and a not-quite-next-gen-enough GT on PS4.

I doubt this is the way Polyphony want to go. Most people will expect a true 'next-gen' GT, which will have to be more than just re-using GT5's premium assets. Many of the models are good enough, but pretty much everything else needs a complete overhaul, and these things... they take time. However, they will have been generating a whole load of premium assets that could be dumped into a new PS3 GT game while we wait.

So this is option 2: true next-gen GT is coming to PS4, but not for years. In the meantime, here is GT6 for PS3, which includes a buttload of new premium assets that will eventually be found in the PS4 game.

I think option 2 is much more realistic, and I'd be totally unsurprised by GT6 coming to PS3. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Much more sense than trying to rush something out for PS4. Proper GT on PS4 anytime soon? You must be joking.

I'm conflicted.

On one hand, I'm down for more Gran Turismo if they can improve on what GT5 was good at (driving model, special events, car porn etc) but it just seems like a missed opportunity to showcase what the PS4 can do in the hands of one of the most technically able devs in the business.

I don't understand. As I said above, such a showcase would need to be more than just an enhanced GT5 engine, which is all they could achieve for a launch/near launch title. Launching a GT6 on PS3 has absolutely no effect on the inevitable true next-gen GT. They can do a GT6 on PS3 while working on their masterpiece, GT7, which I conservatively estimate to release in 2017.

It would delay it. 2017 is ridiculous. They should've focused their efforts on a 2014 holiday release for GT6 on PS4 built from the ground up.

Because some of us don't have the patience to wait another 4-5 years for a new entry on new hardware.

Remember GT3? Look how well that turned out.

I can't get excited about another GT game. They haven't innovated in the genre since the ps2.

Forza blew GT out of the water this gen IMHO.

Releasing your biggest IP game just after the release of your new console, and make it available just for the last gen console, would definitely be an incredibly dumb move. If the game is at least a cross gen title, or the title is something akin to GT5 spec II, at least it would make some kind of sense.

The definitely had enough time to look forward and see all the technical limitations they confronted with GT5 on the PS3, to decide early on that the next game should have been made for the console without current gen limitations.

PS4 2014 release for EU confirmed :(

I think this makes sense to release it for PS3. They won't let it die in a long while like what happened with Wii. They prolly announce this at the same time as LBP3 for PS3 along with a pricecut.

I totally understand why GAF enthusiasts would be salty. I would be too but luckily I don't really care about traditional racers :).

What if it comes with a PS4 BD of a GT6 track using the GT7 graphics/engine? A mini demo until GT7 is released.

I"m ok with this. Take your time with GT7 and give me Tourist Trophy for PS4 instead.

Sony: Guys, GT5 took way too long to release. This cannot happen again!

Polyphony: Ok, we'll make sure that GT6 is ready when the PS4 launches.

Sony: That'd be awesome guys!

Good times. E3 this year is going to be great.

As long as the load time and slow menu issue is fixed in GT5, I'll pick this up at the same time I get my PS4. I can move my PS3 permanently to my racing rig then and give my PS4 pride of place in my cabinet.

So this is the date of the first delay. I see.

Seriously though, if they just gave me 300+ premium cars and all those tracks hidden on the GT5 website, I wouldn't care if it's for PS3. And you know, it really doesn't look like it, but it's gonna be 3 years since GT5. They could've easily* made a new game on the same engine.

*I know, it's PD, it's never easy.

Lets be real, there's no way they make their first release date once this game gets announced. No chance.
