Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
And now Holland wants Trevor Daley. Go away, Ken.

Seems like Montreal has been looking at NCAA players a lot more for awhile now. Most of the tryouts are from St Cloud State, where Lindgren and Poehling came from

Coincidentally, that is the university whose logo bears an uncanny resemblance to the Canadiens' logo 🤔

The Oilera must be really concerned about Draisaitl's contract if they're buying out Pouliot now and not waiting till next year

How does all that work again? Does the player have to sign the offer sheet if his team refuses to match it?

Team offersheets him
He can choose to sign it or not
If he does sign it, then EDM needs to choose to match it or don't.

Too bad no GM has the balls to offer sheet them.[/QUOTE

The player doesn't have to sign. But they always do because $$$$$. Whether it's from the offering team or their own team, they are going to get a big raise.

But if the player doesn't sign, his team matching it or not is moot - because the offersheet itself wasn't signed.

Like for all we know, Shea Weber maybe had 0 interest in going to Philly, but he knew Nashville would match and leveraged that for bigger money.

I can only imagine an agent shouting "SIGN IT! SIGN IT! SIGGGGNNNNITTTT!" to any player they represent who receives one.

Can someone explain the Amirox thing more? Like, how did it first end up on GAF?
Someone posted a thread titled something like 'I think Amir0x has been arrested for child porn'. OP had the article and compared the perp's pic to Amir0x's pic. The former looked a lot like the latter with a beard. Right away it looked like OP was right. Other people pointed out that the name and location all matched. I have no idea how OP came across the article and made the connection, but Amir0x is well known so possibly OP just saw the article and figured it out.

Within 5 minutes and 100 posts the thread was closed. Other people started bumping older threads nowhere Amir0x would discuss child porn (often with a lot of irony in retrospect).

It's all pretty disturbing. Amir0x claimed to police that he needed the material to suppress urges. Meanwhile he has a little niece that he spends time with. I'm glad he was caught.

At the minimum a team in the Oilers division or a Western team should do it simply to hinder the Oilers competitiveness. They'll sign whatever you throw at them, so force them to tie up that much cash in two players and hurt their depth for the next 10 years.

At the rate Draisaitl would be offered, I think you'd be giving up 4 first round picks. Hard for any GM to justify that especially in this league. Imagine you do that, have a key injury or 2 during the season and drop into the lottery.

This is pretty interesting. Lots of players on there I don't recall signing offer sheets, like:

- Scott Stevens being on WASH and STL offersheeting him and getting him for 5(!) 1st round picks
- Scott Stevens THEN being flipped to NJD when STL offersheeted Brenden Shanahan
- Scott Stevens being offersheeted by STL (again!) when in NJD

Somehow I never knew, or completely forgot, all of that Stevens drama. Insane.

Also, fun fact: Montreal has never offersheeted a player, nor have any of their players ever been offersheeted.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. Habs always draft around 25 it seems, and since 2007 only 1 of our 1st round picks has turned out.

I'd offer 8 years $9-10M in a heartbeat.

It would be a smart move for Montreal considering they're essentially in "win now" mode, but Bergevin is as old school as they come and would never do something like that.

If you were a good enough team that you wouldn't expect to miss the playoffs and you needed a #2 C that would probably be a bonafide #1 in a year or so then I think it's still worth it.

AKA the Montreal Canadiens!

Perennial playoff team, but perennially lacking a 1C and thus perennially being 1st or 2nd round fodder. I wish Bergevin had that kind of balls. I know Subban/Weber was ballsy, but offer sheeting Drais would be on a whole other level.

And I hate the whole attitude towards offer sheets, and in general the old boys club that is NHL GMs. It's not like an off sheet is illegal. It's well within the rules. You should be using it as a tool as needed.

Always eh? Except 2 years ago when Price was injured and you ended up in the lottery and 1 ball away from Matthews?

Come on, mang. You know what I'm saying. Habs have made the playoffs something like 10 out of the past 12 years. So by and large they aren't drafting any higher than 15. Throw in a few division titles and a few ECF appearances, and you're into the mid 20's.

I wonder when was it that GMs decided it was "dishonourable" to offer sheet a player.

Kinda funny how NHL GMs lose their mind over it yet in other sports it's just a shrug and "welp that's what happens I guess"

I blame Burke and Lowe for acting like babies.
