I agree a million times over. Glad someone finally got the balls to say it.
Yeah, FINALLY somebody is standing up the THE MAN!

Like, what? Yeah the eshop is clunky and there should have been more launch games, but let's not act like Jim Sterling is standing up against an injustice against impossible odds. He's bitching on the internet. There's no courage required.

I'm pissed off at the e-shop not for its lack of contents but for the confusing way it handles different editions of games.

I rushed out to buy LA but I somehow got the french version. This was the day of launch and I could have sworn there was only one LA icon in its e-shop page.

The next day I try to find out if there is an english version for belgium at all and low and behold there is a separate icon now for english, only made distinctive by a small UK flag in it.

I do not want to doubledip, 6 € is alot of money to throw away.

What do do? any tips?

Call up Nintendo's Customer Support line and see if you can get credited or your account's purchased changed?

I've seen a few Belgian people mention this - apparently there was a stickied thread on the NOE tech support forums about this issue and some people were able to get a refund or a free copy of the English game, I forget which. You may have waited too long after buying the game for Nintendo to consider helping you out, but it's worth a shot.

Maybe this was there before but just noticed how long the "genre" filter list is in the search menu. Talking NA eShop here. You have you standard search filters like Action, Adventure, etc. Scrolling further down I noticed Training, How-To, Communication, Music, Women, Import, Social Networking, Books, Business, Medical, News, Productivity, Weather, Fashion. There are severals as well that I didn't list.

I wonder if it will be a mistake to look to far into this. Those are some options that don't really make much sense at the moment when you think about game offerings. Unless there are going to be apps added in the future. Even if there would to be,why add those listings now?

A quick glance a few pages back NOA blocked non-US credit cards for using the US store.

Apparently the Brazilian store still works though...but its a tad more expensive.

I'm wondering how long until they lock all of them out. You can't get more anti-consumer than not allowing people to add funds (as is the region locking wasn't bad enough restrictions on availability and pricing already...).

Isn't it like this in PSN? I remember years ago people resorting to Entropay and it getting blocked as well.

It's unlikely the Brazilian store will get blocked, since you actually needs to use an international credit card on it anyway (non-international Brazilian CCs won't work, since the charges are actually made in USD). It's literally a backdoor for "importing" eShop stuff from outside the USA, and probably intended as such.

I thought Nintendo was still going to announce what was going to be released on the eShop on Mondays. It's almost 3 PM Eastern and I haven't seen anything.

Did they? My UK VISA debit card works just fine on the store, though my location is set to Canada.

Nope. You must have missed all the hooplah from last week, but all announcements and releases, regardless of whether or not it is the Wii, DSi, or 3DS, are now pushed to Thursdays.

You can if you still charge their credit cards, which apparently is what was happening to some folks.

Hey, so I was watching Nintendo week this week when I came across this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkTCM6AFqLw#t=9m50s

Apparently, there's going to be 8 Sonic games available on the eShop this week? I hadn't heard anything on here, but I didn't want to post a thread in case there was already something about it.

EDIT: Ok, so I'm not exactly sure if they're going to be available for PURCHASE, but they did say a shelf featuring 8 sonic titles, and they showed pictures of DS sonic games.

I also find it sad that they're celebrating Sonic's 20th anniversary, but not Metroid's 25th :(

Probably just three screens each and a description, like with the 3DS retail titles on the eShop. Maybe we'll get a Sonic Game Gear game on VC though... we can hope.

It looks like they attempted the charge my card, I can see an amount sitting there for what I tried the add to my account but it hasn't left my account yet, however the funds I added for the Brazilian Store have already left my bank account.

I'm guessing its just if you put down US as your region it locks out non US credit cards but other regions which the US 3DS can do such as Brazil and Canada will work fine with other regions credit cards......for now.

When is Metroid's 25th anniversary anyways? Isn't it sometime in August? Maybe they'll announce something closer to the actual date? Also I totally think they should release RE1/RE2 on the eShop this week before RE: Mercs comes out :p (and no, I don't actually expect things like this to ever happen). I just really hope Nintendo doesn't screw up the eShop. It has so much potential! If they just add DW3, Yoshi's Island, and Super Metroid + a messaging system, I'd be a happy man.

This is turning into a rant, but I really don't get Nintendo; why are things like messaging services so hard? I know it's mostly because of the whole "think of the children!" motto (either that or it's just Nintendo being Nintendo). But if it's the former, with parental controls, can't you just lock out all the "dangerous" stuff from the kids and just have it so that when the system is first booted, all these "dangerous" features are initially disabled? I just don't get it. ARGHHHH.

Also, has anyone found that when you add more DSiWare/eShop games, that sometimes it takes the 3DS a second or two to actually propagate those icons onto the main menu screen? I'm guessing it's normal, or maybe it just has to do with the fact that I use the grid with smaller icons.

Well, considering the browser gives you full access to porn (video aside), messaging, and other assorted goodies, they've already opened that door and left it up to parents to set the threshold for their kids' use of the system. So, messaging shouldn't be an issue when it comes to moderating objectionable content on 3DS. Even if they wanted to open messaging up to younger audiences (via parental controls), they could easily put an option in the parental controls to allow for friends only to be allowed to message the system. These all seem like basic features that should be standard fare.

Does anyone know when the eShop point cards will be available in Europe? I don't have a credit card and don't really want to get one so I can buy a couple DSiWare games.

you can always get a prepaid visa card.

Who's downloaded Mario clock? I'm surprised its so high up in the charts. Considered it as the 3ds has no alarm clock , but I'm not supporting lazy greedy work

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
mario clock was part of one of the DSi bundles, not sure if they're still being sold though.

You see a similar effect on the Wii on the SD card "channel" option on the Wii menu. Especially with low class cards.

I have a feeling that a 3D enhanced version of the original Metroid on 3DSware will be all we get for the 25th of Metroid.

I'd be fine if they had a messaging service that would just be a series of pre determined phrases. Like one that says "Hey would you like a game of" (Select game title) in (select timeframe)" and then whoever you send it to can reply with a Yes or No or something.

Once your friends with someone you should be able to send whatever kind of message you want. Doesn't the wii already allow for this?

I get why nintendo doesn't allow self-written reviews for the eshop because people will just post penis jokes and stuff for shits and giggles but for private messages between friends it doesn't make sense to restrict communication.

Even the old DS had an alarm clock. Nintendo is obviously trying to squeeze 2 more dollars out of us by buying the Mario Clock. I think theres an Animal Crossing clock too, but not sure if it's in the eshop yet

Agreed. It's fucking sad that Nintendo finally managed to create a system that shows you who's online at any given time, even notifies you when someone comes online, but it's completely impossible to interact with your friends. Wii lacked friends list access in-game and online notification, but had messaging. I have no idea what Nintendo is thinking.

I think its pretty much safe to say most if not all Nintendo made GB and GBC games will come to the 3DS VC at some point. I'm thinking Mario Land 2 will be sometime in the next 2 months.

I really hope we finally get Mega Man and Kirbys Dream Land this week, wouldn't mind replaying them again.

With Game Boy titles now being released on the 3DS eShop, we are frequently asked if we plan on bringing the original ‘Shantae’ to the service.

We have nothing to confirm at this time, but we can say that we are actively pursuing the re-release of ‘Shantae’ on the 3DS Virtual Console. As soon as we have anything to report, we will let you know. Until then, keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages for future updates.
Fingers crossed. Day one purchase for sure.

What's a US zip code without tax? Or can I tell if I'm going to be charged tax with my current address and switch before I buy anything?

Oracle of Seasons/Ages this week plz!!

Dear god no I have so much Zelda to play already. Gimme something actiony and sorta-forgotten like Gargoyle's Quest or Kirby's Dream Land 2 or Castlevania 2! How about fuckin' Dr. Franken, I could never beat that. Deja Vu pack for GBC? F-1 Race? A Mega Man? YOSHI'S COOKIE?

Nintendo week says, a "shelf featuring 8 Sonic games" is coming this week to the eShop. They showed box art for a bunch of DS games while they said that. It's probably a channel with trailers and screenshots of all the DS, Wii, and 3DS games that Sonic is in. They didn't hint at any actual games being available.

I downloaded Mario Clock since i relied on my DSi as an alarm clock but got rid of it as soon as I got the 3DS.

I got Mario clock. It's a lot of fun, as far as alarm clocks go. :)

Apart from the alarm clock itself, there's also a semi-random SMB1 stage playing out on top. Mario is constantly walking right, but you can make him jump. Get 100 coins and he's replaced by Luigi, and one of the numbers on the analog clock is replaced by Mario. Keep doing this and replace all the numbers, and you even get a rescue-the-princess ending.

TBH I'm not bothering with the store until I find out there is somethign worthwhile on it, and then hopefully search will find it. Its like the antithesis of the ios app store. The app store has so many games and apps and meaningless ratings, that you can't rely on it to find you something useful - you have to use 3rd party websites, or forums. The 3DS estore is the same, only with *zero* content.

Were you a DSi user and how much of it have you played? The DsiWare selection is huge has a good deal of interesting content.

This. I'm playing aura-aura climber right now. Man this game is such a steal at 200 points!

If you guys don't have this game yet, definitely give it a consideration.

1. It's a new Nintendo IP developed by NST.
2. It's only 200 points with a lot of replay value. Two modes of play: Score attack (10 stages + a Marathon mode where all ten stages combine into one!) and Endless; plus, there's a medal system for perfectionists.
3. Good for short or long bursts of play!
4. Uses only buttons but takes good advantage of the dual screens of the DS.
5. It has a lot of charm!

My situation: I skipped the DSi completely and so for me the store has lots of stuff. I quickly added 20 or so DSiWare games to my wishlist, but I've learned from my Steam backlog and I'm only getting two or three at a time: after I beat them, I'll get more. No more buying games I won't play.

I bought a fair bit of DSiware content. Which I then lost because HMV offered a great trade-in deal for the 3DS and Nintendo don't have a basic fucking account based service so they all disappeared. I'm not rebuying anything out of principal.

It was difficult enough to find things on the DSiware store anyway. One day I decided to buy two games, both beginning with the letter 'S' (or something). couldn't search for them, had to browse by title. Can't skip round to Z and go backwards, so I scrolled - page by page - very slowly - all the way to 'S'. Saw both games. Bought the first one and the fucking shop drops you out, so to buy the very next game in the list took me twice as long. fuckwits.
