So, when and where do I finally obtain a slingshot? Does it randomly pop up in Tom Nook's shop? Do I have to wait until he's upgraded a certain number of times? It's driving me crazy that balloons and presents fly overhead each day and I can't get them :lol

Also, is there a way in this version of the game to give something to another human player in your town without sending it to them through the mail? In the GC version, you could just hand things to the little thingy (??) outside their house...

According to the official strategy guide (from Prima), it just shows up randomly at Nooks.

You can always bury an item for another player (except for stuff like fish and insects of coarse).

I don't think he carries the slingshot in Nook's Cranny, but in his first upgrade he'll start selling it - although you may have to wait for it to be in stock. I JUST got the slingshot a week ago myself.

More Design Time; I swear I spend half my play-time in Able Sisters recently. I took these sports-related requests from some friends of mine who wanted to see them done in-game.

Thanks for this (you too, TJ Spyke). Nook upgraded to Nook 'n Go on Monday, so I'll just have to be patient.

Thankfully, in the meantime I can obsess over getting an orange grove going in my hood (apples are my native fruit). Also, hopefully another coconut will wash up on my shore soon so I can get those going. I screwed up the first two that washed up on shore (accidentally ate the first one and the second was planted in the sand instead of just outside of it - doh! :lol)

Argh I should never have entered this thread! Now I want the game as well!

It's too bad that the game gets so much backslash on gaming related forums. It turns off a lot of gamers wether the backslash concerns them or not.

For instance I've never played an AC game before, but have always been close at getting one. So that City Folk reuses too many concepts instead of making new ones, shouldn't be a problem to me. But all the backslash has certainly given me biased view on the game.

If you're a super-mega-hardcore AC fan (paradox?), then it's good for you.

If you're new to the series, it's good for you.

If you're in between, chances are you won't like it.

That's a good way of putting it. I'm in the first catagory. I think I spent close to $300 collecting all the stupid cards for the GCN version and unlocking everything.

I bought two copies of the DS version and a DS for me wife so I could unlock more stuff faster and have one town online nearly 24/7.

My first day in town and I am already getting creepy invites from my neighbour Rocco (who just happens to share his name with the most wellknown male pornstar).

Today Tortime gave out an item called "Stocking Stuffer" in European versions of the game to celebrate "Naughty-or-Nice Day". Hope AC fans here got it.

The next event will be the fishing tournament on December 15 (all regions).

Other December events (for those unaware):

Europe: December 21 is Midwinter's Day. Tortimer will be giving out an exclusive gift.

December 23 and 26-31: Tom Nook will be selling festive items

December 24 from 8PM to midnight: Jingle comes to town and you can items from the festive series. He only gives out 1 gift per person though, so you will have to change clothes and accessories to try and trick him.

December 31 from 6AM to midnight: New Year's Eve countdown. get an exclusive t-shirt from Tortimer.

And of coarse the regular events of K.K. Slider giving you a free track of music on Saturdays from 8PM to midnight in Brewster's at the museum and Joan selling turnips on Sundays from 6AM to noon.

I think it's kinda neat how different countries will have different holidays. For people who go on WiFi, it's incentive to make friends from around the world just so you can visit their towns and get in on all the festivities. ^____^

Found out that Brewster will now store your gyroids!

RUU_0388.jpg

I try to visit him most days and chat, today he saw I had gyroids on me and started talking about how they were his hobby and he would love to store some for me.

RUU_0411.jpg

He lets you scroll through the inventory to look at all your different gyroids and listen to them; and take them back whenever you want. This is EXCELLENT since I am a gyroid nut! I had my beach in WW littered with about a hundred of them because I ran out of space in my house and drawers! So this is a great addition! :D

As for my daily design; I present a tribute to our friend in the sea...

RUU_0493.jpg

Yes, you know them, and you hopefully love them because you'll see a lot of them. The ever popular Seabass! So display your love with the I <3 Seabass t-shirt!

RUU_0494.jpg

Buy one for you and every Seabass fan in your life! With every purchase of the I <3 Seabass t-shirt, you'll receive the I <3 Seabass poster! Get both for the special low time price of $19.99!* So call 1-800-SEABASS today and own your very own piece of the sea!!**

*+$6.95 S&H
**Actual Seabass not included. 'I <3 Seabass' is trademark of 'Not You Again LLC', misuse of trademark is subject to civil and criminal penalties. Free poster valid only in Animal Crossing, not a real poster.

This is completely awesome. I'm also a gyroid nut and your post made me decide to give this game a chance. I thought I had my share after so many hours of Wild Word... Looks like I was wrong since knowing about gyroid storage makes me so hyped to start it all over again.

Did anyone notice you can store a whole heap of items indefinitely at the auction house in the city? Will come in handy when i can afford more than a few pieces of furniture!

Has anyone noticed that there are fewer fetch quests in this game? I remember the original AC and AC:WW where almost every animal in the town had something they needed you to do for them every time you spoke to them. Now it seems like they just come out of the blue. It is a bit more realistic, but a lot harder to actually earn things in the game. I wish there wasn't a time limit on some of them, too. I had to get a specific fossil for one of the animals and there wasn't even a shovel available yet in my town. Once I had a shovel and spent a couple days trying to get the fossil the animal told me "nevermind". Oh well. This is still a fun game.

Oh wow, that's great. In GCN Animal Crossing my basement looked like some sort of gyroid graveyard.

I did notice that, but as it turns out it's not really extra space. It seems like it allows access to the same storage area as dressers in your house, so it's a way to get access to things in the city without needing to drag them in your inventory, or I guess transport things home if you were buying out Gracie's or something.

How many of you guys(owners of the game) bought it together with Wii Speak? And how much do you actually use it in the game? Would it justify to get Wii Speak just for AC?

Thanks

I bought the game before I got an Internet connection back at home, so I did not buy the Wii Speak version. I may get the mic if I get a game that it would really benefit from it (it helps in AC, but not needed).

Will my turnips go bad faster if I leave them on the floor of my house? I can't store them in my dresser, and I don't want them taking up space in my inventory all week while I wait for a good selling price at Nook's. What price do you guys normally sell your turnips at? I got 12 bunches of 10 for 900 a piece (10800 bells total) this morning, and one of my neighbors gave me an invite to Redd's!

Yeah, I think you can also buy seven cups of coffee from him on seven different occasions and he'll offer to store your gyroids. I didn't know that I could just have a gyroid in my inventory and get him to store my stuff automatically; it sure does sound easier, but oh well.

I wait until I get a profit from Nook. I've seen some people saying they got days where Nook was offering over 400 bells a turnip, but I haven't experienced that yet.

Hmm, I wonder what exactly triggers him getting to the gyroid bit? I went in with four gyroids, bought some coffee, and after that he said nothing but the same line about brewing his own blends over and over and over.

EDIT:

Ahh, that's probably it. Just having gyroids in the inventory didn't do the trick.

I just toss them on the ground outside of Nook's - nothing hurts them except for time. They'll last 1 week no matter what. I gambled big this week and bought over half a million bells worth. :D

As for Brewster, yeah, you must have to be sorta friendly with him. I'm pretty sure I've had gyroids on me before and he didn't offer his services. Whenever I went there I would talk to him beside the counter, then have a cup of coffee. He offered to store my gyroids before I had had my coffee that day. I don't know if I had bought 7 cups of coffee before then, but if that is what people are saying, must be true. I didn't visit him everyday, so it's a pretty low number whatever it is. :)

Wow, if you can find a Nook that is buying them for 400 bells, that would get you 200 million. :lol

I think you misread him; he bought half a million worth, not actually half a million turnips. Unless Sow Joan was being an angel and selling them for one bell each. :)

What he said. She was selling them for 91 bells, so I bought 6,000 of them.

Exactly how I got filthy rich in Wild World :D
What he said as well. Some weeks I would purchase several million bells worth of turnips and just dump them on the ground all over town. It was a sea of turnips. :lol

When I get more turnips I will try that. I bought about 20K worth today (selling at 102). I would have bought more, but Nook is offering a 5X bonus on items today and I spent a ton of money on stuff from him (I will to get to to the top level of membership as quickly as possible).

I'm sure people here would let the rest of us know of any good deals regarding turnips. I know I will report any good deals I get.

That's a pretty good deal with Amazon. I wonder how they afford to do all these deals on games?

I've got a little more money to spare than I thought I would this Christmas and I think it would be well spent on Animal Crossing. I'm still not sure whether I should get the DS game or the Wii game though. From what I've read in this thread they're very similar (more collectables in the Wii version, are collectables a big deal anyway for this game?). My most played system is the DS and the Wii is just my dedicated Mario Kart machine right now. Should I, a total newcomer to the world of AC, consider the Wii version over the DS version for some reason?

Btw. I really like the characters in AC from what I've read from all of the impressions here, and I've always been a Mr. Resetti fan, even though I've never played his game :)

JoshuaJSlone said:
To save people a click or two, it's one of the cases where they don't immediately list the price, but it's down to $29.98.
Crap I just ordered it for my wife for $49.99 yesterday at Amazon along with the microphone =/

Oh well, I used gift certificates on it though so it's really nothing out of my pocket (yay for credit card reward points! =)

Seems like Amazon sold out of it too, only 3rd party stores have it in stock on the site.

Anyways my wife wanted the game after hearing about it from one of her coworkers the other day who happens to be pretty hooked on it, figured 'why not?' and get it for her as a 'pre-xmas' gift.

Other than more items, here are the immediate improvements that come to mind from Wild World to City Folk:

*Graphics. It's not top of the line for Wii, but compared to the DS game it's smoother, much higher resolution, and has a higher framerate.
*Control. Control is slightly nicer in City Folk. In part due to having an analog stick. The other thing is that while there's stylus control in Wild World, the equivalent pointer mode in City Folk is much nicer since you also have the normal wiimote buttons available. Whether you're playing with just wiimote or wiimote+nunchuk, the ability to use the wiimote's d-pad for quickly cycling through tools rather than going to the menu each time is a time-saver.
*WiiConnect24. In the DS version you had to go to someone else's town to share anything with them. I enjoy just being able to send or receive items through the mail system.

However, with as important as different times of day can be in the game, being able to have your town waiting in your pocket at all times is reeeeally nice.

In that case I'm leaning toward AC:WW, thanks for the info.

I really need to remember to post my pictures. I've just been playing so much I keep forgetting.

Also, can you ONLY get gyroids from people in your town? I really enjoyed digging them up randomly, so I'm kinda bummed if they took that out.

They can still be dug up after it rains/snows. They just added other ways to get them now. I've even found them (and fossils) in the recycling bin some days.

I thought this was odd, but I've been playing basically everyday since the release. It hasn't rained or snowed once yet. I better have a white christmas...

I've been digging since the first day, HOPING for a gyroid. And the only two I've gotten have been from neighbors when I find their lost keys.

It's not all that bad, considering I have several sets of complete fossils in the museum.

Two hours ago I stood in a store holding City Folk in my left hand and Wild World in my right. I've played neither of these games yet I somehow have a romanticized image of the DS version where it's just one village with stores and a lot of things to do. The whole city idea, with its stores quite seperated from the village, kind of rubs me in the wrong way yet on the other hand I feel like I could be missing out on some great things that the Wii version has to offer. At least Mr. Resetti is confirmed to be lecturing you in both games. Because of my indicisiveness I ended up not buying any game.

Does anyone who owns both versions feel this way about the city or am I the only one?

the city actually becomes just an extensin of your little town. Its not as big or sprawling as I imagined. Also, everything is higher poly on city folk, so even the same items you can decorate your house with just look better. It seems like city folk has more in teh way of day long events, store specials, and whatnot. If you have friends with it, it seems a tad mroe accesible for multiplayer. Im enjoying city folk more. You can also zoom in and out in the museum which is nice. I dont think you could in the DS version.

my 2 cents.
