Am I the only one who thinks that Donkey Kong sounds like Julia Child?! It is ridiculous.
jibblypop said:This game is really winning people over. My roommate who once said "the only good mario kart is the 64 one" is now completely hooked on this game and has retracted his statement.
Everyone is hooked. My girlfriend, my brothers and every single friend i have that plays games. They really nailed something special with this game.
No. Maybe what you remembered IGN mention was the tournaments?Fantastical said:Forgive me for being ignorant but does this game have missions like the DS version? I vaguely remember IGN saying that you could download them...???
Same happened here a pal bought wii because of mkwii great game...Vagabundo said:This game is slowly taking over the WORLD..
Seriously, everyone I know has it and even casuals are getting it. I know someone who is getting a Wii just because of MK!
MK is the new Wii Sports.
MrWisker said:Just bought the game today though I have yet to play it. But I had a blast watching my 10yr old and 8yr old battling it out. Very nice to see how easily it was for my 8yr old to pick up the wheel add-on. My turn in a few minutes.

My time is 1'18". Do better!
But tournaments are pretty much mission mode, just you can only do one at time and once a mission is over you can never do it again. I can't wait until we get a boss tournamentFuzzy said:No. Maybe what you remembered IGN mention was the tournaments?
I got a 1-star rating by my name today. I'll start to try to get a two-star rating this weekend.

Christopher said:I rather do hate the rankings on races - but if I may ask in this thread what are some tips to ensure that you have a star ranking? I consider myself decent, but are their some guidelines set forth that you have to do to get Star ranking??
Captain N said:I'm pretty sure one of them is being in first place more time then you aren't in first place. you need to get 60 points over all.
Also don't go offroad. In most vehicles that's a death sentence anyway, but I use the Magikruiser and there are some offroad shortcuts that are still shortcuts with it. However, if I use them, my rating suffers.Davidion said:A big, BIG no no if you want high ratings is to never, ever fall off the track and/or hit course obstacles. I won the special cup in mirror mode coming in 1st place every race yet walked away with a B rating. Why? I fell off of the track on Rainbow Road five times. :\ This is after having essentially lead the pack during the entirety of the first three races.

Apparently you have to unlock expert staff ghosts? Are these obtained by beating the normal staff ghosts? I've beat almost 7 now - yes with a three second difference or more, and still nothing.
reggieandTFE said:Surprisingly, I'm enjoying this game much, much more than Smash Brothers. I think it's the awesome online and the fact that my girlfriend (who rarely plays games) can get a hang on the mechanics.
reggieandTFE said:The only glaring weakness is the selection of the retro tracks. Who the fucked picked some the N64 and GCN ones?
reggieandTFE said:I rarely played them back in the day. Also, Baby Park should be required in every Mario Kart game from here to infinity.
Nabster92 said:JOIN OUR IRC ROOM. It's sooo much more convenient to set up games and be able to chat with everyone while playing. We're at:
server: irc.globalgamers.net
channel #gaf_sb
And for those too lazy to actually use an irc client. I think Blizzard said in the brawl thread this should work as well:
http://www.globalgamers.net/?p=webchat
use gaf_sb as the channel name.
And I hear of this chatzilla thing working as well in which to get to us you would type "/server irc.globalgamers.net" and then "/join #gaf_sb".
And this is a direct link to the web base version:
http://irc.netsplit.de/webchat/?net=GlobalGamers&room=#gaf_sb
just type in your nick and you're set.
Pretty sure you can get on through pidgin as well if you happen to use that already.
So NO EXCUSES! Maybe if we get enough of us in the channel we could make a new room that has a title more oriented around gaf_wfc or something rather than smash.

LevityNYC said:We used to play it back in the day it was a skill game on SNES. Mario Kart 64 was a little more luck based, but the balance between luck and skill was perfect. Skilled players would win and less skilled would lose, maybe not as bad as they should because of the items, but still. Its gotten ridiculous now though. I'm sorry, but any racing game where in order to win, you have to not try your best and pull up is broke in my opinion. Theres no point in power sliding, its merely a matter of hanging back and getting stars, bullet bills and blue shells. I shouldnt be losing to my wife and sister in law in a game that I've essentially been playing for 15 years. I guess thats just what Nintendo wants nowadays.
An easy fix is to just introduce balance sliders in the game, but thats just too much to ask for from Nintendo. Balance sliders = problem solved and everyone is happy.

That is true, but not consistenly.LevityNYC said:Perhaps there is a gap between ungodly good and just good, but the very good player can very easily lose to a bad player because of the poor balancing.

I'm still pissed this has like three Delfino stages yet no Galaxy stage. =/ Rainbow Road in this game may be the best MK track ever, but it's still not technically a Galaxy stage...

Amir0x said:I mean I know this is the closest Mario Kart console fans have had to actual wheel peripheral support, but as someone who has played with many different Wheels over my life this is a really cheap, poor excuse for a wheel. It's not worth the effort at all.
Fortunately, it seems most tournaments won't require the wheel.
desh said:What are the other two "Delfino" stages (DS Delfino Square being the first of three). Also, what is Delfino from?
The worst retro choice selection has to be GBA Shy Guy Beach; they only took two GBA courses, and one of the ones they selected was this one, argh!
The N64 courses I really really miss are Royal Raceway/Circuit and Yoshi's Island. Then again, N64 had some of the best courses (looking through nostalgia colored glasses?).
Edit: After doing some research, I was able to answer my two questions. Peach Beach and Coconut Mall are two other "Delfino" stages, and Delfino is from Super Mario Sunshine (never played SMS).
