Though the wait is rough, I can't even imagine how polished this game is going to be when we finally get it. That Saturday night at 11:59 is going to be the longest minute ever.
We'll just have to hope this game is super successful and they build Pikmin 4 from the ground up, haha.
Nintendo is never going to push stuff like putting a lot of effort into ground textures. We'll see some amazing looking games, but Nintendo is done with that kind of race.
"The hell"? Ah the painfully forced pretend surprise. I've actually played games all generation, 'cause the only way this is impressive is perhaps if I played none at all. I've played games like Viva Pinata, like Banjo, like Ratchet. I know what next-gen games should look like. This game is a up-res Wii title, with some basic next-gen shaders and effects in place. The geometry and texture work is barely up to standard. Character models that are laughable. I mean, shit, it's fine if you think it looks great, but let it go that it's some shocking thing that others don't.
nah Nintendo still intends on making beautiful games on their hardware IMO. Skyward Sword and Mario Galaxy showed me that they love pushing their hardware to the limit.Nintendo is never going to push stuff like putting a lot of effort into ground textures. Why would Nintendo build a console they're never going to use?I mean it's not like I don't think they will make stuff that looks really good, just look at what they did with the Wii in games like Galaxy, DKCR, and Epic Yarn. But do I think we'll see something like Uncharted from Nintendo? No.

Guess I'll add my two cents to the graphics convo. Personally, I think it looks great as a whole, but one simple thing they could do to improve things is smooth over the edges at the bottom of rocks -- it's too delineated right now, making it look very much like a prop plopped down on a set, rather than an organic part of the landscape.
Such as?There's more that can be done with hardware power than just high resolution textures. I imagine we'll see much more open worlds and things going on that couldn't be accomplished on the Wii.
Such as?
If what you're saying is really true then Nintendo chucking in an extra 1GB of RAM and clocking the CPU/GPU above what is necessary is still a waste on their part.
Really?HNNNGGGGG
dem graphics are so gooood
Looks like an XBLA game.
They may not be the best graphics around but no way this can be confused with a XBLA titleReally?
I find them to be very underwhelming. Looks like an XBLA game.
The longest minutes will be those where I'll be heading home with the game in my hands. D:
zelda is going to be fucking beautiful, don't worry <3:/
I hope you're wrong. I can't believe I actually have more faith in Nintendo about something than you metalslimer

Prehaps maybe 2 or 3 third party's actually care about the added specs and I think one of them was surprised they received so much power to begin with. So it's not like Nintendo was forced into it like say Microsoft was when dealing with Epic.Without engaging in this conversation, to be fair, appeasing third parties would be a completely rational justification for why.

You sure about that?
A lot of people were saying how that Zelda Tech demo at E3 2011 was not that impressive... but that's GAF for you
well usually games that come out later in the lifecycle look better than quickly created tech demos. It'll come out in 2014 probably, combine that with the fact that it is likely their showcase game that I'm sure that they'll use. It will be nawwwceee. You sure about that?

da hell
maybe technically, I dunno, I'm sure it's completely doable on the other systems, but OMG SO PRETTY
:/

Teams where the old bosses like Miyamoto and Tezuka are more directly involved aren't going to be producing eye candy titles.
How so? Windwaker was gorgeous, and several big visual elements were Miyamoto's idea.

vocal minority that think it's mediocre.
Well, at least the textures have a lot of detail now. And judging on the shadows and light in the cave, it's not completely flat.Nintendo is never going to push stuff like putting a lot of effort into ground textures. Sometimes I think people forget how the original 2 Pikmin looked. Pikmin 3 isn't some gorgeous work of art, but I think people do give it a little less credit than it deserves
GameXplain posted an analysis for the Nintendo Direct footage.

Guess that explains the new cursor's "light tower" thing
Just watched the footage in HD from the eshop, it looks gorgeous. That Spotty Bulbear. ò_ó
Was that for the Gamecube or Wii? If you compare Sunshine to Galaxy, do you see any difference? If Pikmin 3 were made exclusively for Wii, I think you would have seen a nice little jump from its Gamecube roots. This looks like what I imagine the Wii version would look like up-res'd and with a few more shaders and slightly more complex models. Only slightly.
I like the art style, don't get me wrong. But this game is not ambitious on a technical level. Not even close. Its not even close to matching the best of last generation.
