by "folders" people are probably just talking about having more top level tiles like apps where its one tile and you drill down into a bunch of tiles associated with it. describing it as folders is just easier...but i think the former is what people want functionality wise
No it's not... It always only recorded your last 15 minutes (or was supposed to; it's buggy).
What's New could be the default, middle icon, to the right have the most recently used apps and games in order and to the left of What's New have categories/folders.I feel like "Library" should be the left most tile, always. After that just keep my most recent. But it's silly to have to scroll to the right for so long to get to a game on the HDD I might not have played in awhile. At this point I have almost 35 icons I think on that bar. That's only within 6 months of the machine being out.
An easy solution is just having "Library" next to "What's New", and letting everything else just accumulate to the right as it has been doing.
It's the same bug, except now it probably checks to see how old it is before saving it (thus not saving anything at all now). They've tried to brush it under the rug. Completely absurd and a huge piss off. Feature is useless.the old bug that i had pre-1.70 was that it recorded the wrong footage when pressing the Share button, typically the start of the gaming session. Now what happens is the PS4 will simply not record the footage at all, it wont give me a Square button prompt. this varies too, and seems to work occasionally.
I'm not sure if this is the same problem or an entirely new bug. this has happened with 15 minute pre-set and the 1 minute pre-set.
People tell me this and are either lying or don't understand the problem. It happens to everyone who uses it enough to recognize it.Mine was always recording the last 15min of gameplay.
So a sideways XMB? XMB really was a masterpiece in terms of organization meeting elegance. It just got a bit bloated with all of its non-traditional apps. Vita UI let's you do whatever you want too. So it's the ideal organizational UI in terms of gaming systems. The PDM is entirely dysfunctional when it comes to accessing games, but great in everything else that matters. The UI is a clusterfuck right now, especially video apps.
What I think they should do, considering all the empty space, is to just do netflix style rows, ordered by recent
[Game Library] [Game in Tray] [Game] [Game] [Game] [Game] [Game]
[Video Library] [App] [App] [App] [App] [App] [App]
[Music Library] [Album] [Album] [Album] [Album] [Album] [Album] [Album]
Clicking Library shows you all the things in that category in a grid, sorted by alpha.
Right now with the PS4 it's like you turn it on and have to sort through a cluttered office desk to play or use what you want

It's practically the opposite for me. I guess I play just 2-3 things at a time, and the PS4's stupidly simple app line organizing system works incredibly well, despite all odds. Yeah, there's stuff all the way to the right, but I don't start them ever anyway. On the other hand, stuff that I actually use is just always *there* and I don't even have to think or move a finger to have them within reach. On PS3 I wasted hours upon hours organizing games into folders, adding video icons to videos etc. So much wasted time, and for what really? Just so that I can have a quicker access to something I never even play anyway.Right now with the PS4 it's like you turn it on and have to sort through a cluttered office desk to play or use what you want
Pretty sure I tried this too but I will try it again when I get home.
I think the current setup would be fantastic with a few minor, but high impact changes. The UI is a clusterfuck right now, especially video apps.

Amazingly, turning off Deep Color fixed my PS4 audio problems through my hdmi switcher.
Is there any technological reason besides a system software bug that might be causing this?

I had a lot of problems last night. Basically I would just have a black screen, but the sound was still working (could navigate around and hear the menu noises).
Using a different HDMI port on my tv worked (weirdly), but I seem to have fixed the issue this morning by turning off HDCP.
Try the following in your PS4 browser:
-Go to Settings
-Go to 'Player'
-Click 'Show Advanced'
-Enable the 'Prefer AAC Audio' option
Go into your Netflix pc account and make sure you have it set to do hd streams. I had this disabled when I had my terrible 3mbps dsl.So a sideways XMB? I came in here to say something else entirely but no I don't know what it was.
Oh yeah. Netflix on PS4 is being a whore. I have 8mbps down and it still won't go above 384p SD quality. I have 1080p Super HD bandwidth dammit !!
I'd captured over 10 videos without issue before it happened to me. It's still only happened the once, but all my recordings are in ACIV. BF4 sounds like it has more issues than other games.
This makes me think it's a game coding issue, more than a system issue. A game turning off the recording, then missing the call to turn it back on could easily be missed by QA.
Mine was always recording the last 15min of gameplay.
Side note: Why does everyone keep asking for "folders"? Folders would look completely out of place on this UI. They already have a good system in place with the Library, they just need to further develop it with sorting options and the ability to hide/remove items such as demos, Betas, and apps that already have their own Apps Library.
No.
On my PS3, here are some of the folders that I have: PS3 Retail Games, PS3 Games, Retro Game, PS3 Demos, PS1 Games, PS2 Games. I can sort my games how I want them sorted.
Throwing everything into one bin doesn't fix anything, even if you can sort or filter, unless those options are powerful and fast.
Think about the TV & Media Services option. It's an icon in the main list, that then opens up into a grid of things. Wouldn't even have to be a grid - just one new horizontal live of items, only those things that you've put into that "folder".
Absolutely no reason such options would look out of place on this UI, because the UI is already doing this in other ways.
Why my recorded videos have no sound? This update is good and all, but it messed up alot of my settings especially Deep Color!
my audio is fine for recorded videos. what game? is it child of light?
Yes!
think thats a bug. probably doesnt have anything to do with the firmware.
It worked for everything but videos that have mp3 audio for me. Luckily most of my stuff is playing now.Ultimate FAQ has been updated:

Also noticed this thread on the Plex website regarding PS4 Plex Web. Looks like it might get some videos working?:

They still need to use the PS3's XMB title graphic in place of that low-res disc placeholder though. I'd like it if they brought back the bitrate meter that PS3 has too.
If anyone took pics of the Blu-ray player UI before 1.70 it'd be nice to compare. I don't remember it looking quite this polished.

When you first choose to upload, it usually saves it permanently then as well?On BF4, in share menu, I didn't see the "press square" to save video option, you do seem to be able to upload but not save it to the hard disk for later editing?

That's what I'm suggesting if the SQUARE button prompt doesn't show up, as a workaround. I haven't tried it myself because I haven't had the SQUARE prompt not show up yet. After the update, there's this "save screenshot" "save clip" options visible in the footer for some games but I now can't see the "save video clip" option on BF4 (I've set my clip times to 5 mins, btw). So to save the clip without uploading, I just select upload than not upload?
You can change the behaviour of the share button (short/long/double press) from the share settings. One thing I just noticed. If you double tap the share button to record a video manually it will record your next 15 minutes and then save it in the first place... after that, it will continue recording your video automatically. I supose it was meant to record automatically from start, but its still bugged, at least theres an emergency exit for the problem by now. Hope they fix that soon... those auto recording problems are taking long to resolve.
I think he's saying setting a manual start point fixes the typical last 15 minutes recording behaviour even after the first 15 minutes have passed. You can change the behaviour of the share button (short/long/double press) from the share settings.
What the hell did this update do to the Netflix app? The entire UI is in slow mo!
