Also people for fucks sake, chill out on those cheapshots about health care.

I'm waiting for more information but I question if he wasn't there would this incident occurred.

Wow sounds like it was a spur of the moment decision.

Yeah it doesn't sound like the shooter just picked some random adult rec baseball game to shoot up.

This exact sentiment can be flipped and used to support any of the GOP's racist, un-humanitarian policies.

I will never ever get this line of thinking. These people deserve whatever bad is happening or coming to them because these guys are hateful inhuman in the first place.

In this case I will save my sympathy for the cops or the eventual innocent people who happened to be there.

For Scalise I have none. He´s a piece of shit, tell me exactly why I should have sympathy for him?

With your line of thinking we should cuddle together and cry everytime a dictator or the like gets whats coming to him..

And please don´t misunderstand me, I don´t condone violence like this in the first place. It´s just that I don´t feel anything when people like him happen to bite the bullet.

If politically motivated this would seem like cries of years of the GOP dismantling the social safety net and finally coming to pass with the recent healthcare shenanigans.

It’s a huge if and I’m in no way condoning violence, but just look at history? You can’t fuck with people long enough before they start getting violent.

Again, not condoning violence and I hope everyone recovers, but we really need to start thinking macro perspective politically and the party in power today does not.

Gun rights advocates and the NRA always like to use the excuse that if more people had guns shootings would happen less often (or would have less casualties.) That argument completely fails to work here as the senator had several armed escorts and the shooter still managed to get off 50 shots. Just proves once again that gun rights advocates arguments are paper thin at best.

The concern is that this phrasing is congruent with the argument that you need more guns to save you from guns. Which is what people are going to say.
I think having trained security professionals with guns is a very different thing from arming anybody who shows interest. (And it comes with its own concerns; over-militarization of police forces isn't great either).

I hope that Scalise and his entourage come through this OK.

Do you think the people getting shot at were thinking "I really hope none of us has a gun"

It is a very different thing in reality, but to the gop... Everyone can be a cowboy if they have a gun!

Seriously though, hope he lives to consider that point, at least.

Some of GAF is about those second amendment solutions after all huh

Please don't be in the next terrorist thread hypocritically whining about Muslims justifying the attacks.

50 bullets is a full scale assault. Gun ownership debates and the political motivations (I'm guessing health care this week) are going to be all over the news.

Curious why the guy automatically assumed they were political in the first place.

What a terrible situation, hopefully everyone shot at comes out out of it without serious injury.

Unfortunately I fully expect the GOP, or at least Trump, to frame this as an attack on the Republican party as a whole and will somehow find a way to blame the Democrats rather than the idiot who actually shot them. I'd like to believe that Scalise will have an awakening moment and realize that basic gun control measures might be needed, but I have no faith in any GOP congressmen anymore

I believe politicians are going to wait to respond on next steps until they learn more about the shooter. He sounds like he was packing serious fire power which I assume makes him pro-gun. People are complex for example I'm very Left leaning but pro-gun and pro-gun reform, but I wasn't raised in an environment where ARs are seen as the type of gun one would have for protection.

I'm implying that if the attacker is motivated it doesn't mean he is aligned Left. Whether or not he is the situation is unfortunate but I don't think politicians are going to discuss the incident before they receive enough information.

I believe someone stated that the capitol police were there.
