was astro city one of the most popular arcades in japan? wonder how much astro city is selling for in the u.s. did the arcade owner bet everything on astro city being a huge hit? so many machines. wonder how much those machines cost the owner at the time.

Astro City is just a type of cabinet.

Yeah, next is testing all the machines and boards.

Luckily, I already know a few machines work for sure, so It's just a matter of replacing PCBs. Still tedious though...

You'll want to be checking the voltage on the edge connector to make sure the cab is giving the right voltage levels, otherwise you run the risk of damaging boards. Also beware of non-JAMMA titles, they'll probably have JAMMA adapters on their edge connector, but the occasional cabinet might have been rewired for the particular game, and if you connect a non-JAMMA board to a JAMMA machine, you'll potentially fry the board.

If you can afford to i would honestly get a shipping container and store the cabinets in there and reach out through some of the Mame websites as i know from personal experience those Astro city cabinet by themselves sell for 1k Aus here so you may be able to do a deal with a pinball or arcade repair place to buy in bulk to re-sell over here

You have this place

sorry if it looks 90s...the guy is still in business

These places are always on the lookout for cabinets

If nothing is going on with the building hes better off leaving them in there vs a shipping container which is going to cost him $$$ to rent and they are not exactly the best idea to put things in during the Japan summers...

Great findings overall! Thanks for keeping the thread up to date OP, it's like you hit the lottery and we're all invited to the party. I really like this pic.
For the record, when people say "porn games" that means softcore titles such as strip poker, billiards or Qix clones, right? I remember seeing those kind of arcade games.

Beautiful! What a time capsule haha. Wish I could grab a cabinet but my roommate/landlord says i'm tapped out on floor space lol. Probably could get some boards still... Raiden 2 and SF EX2 sound fun!

I had thought the point of OP handling all this is Grandma has other plans for the space and needs everything gone

If you decide to part everything out and sell the pcbs, I'd be interested in seeing a list of what you've got. I have a New Astro City and collect cps2 and horizontal pcbs, my brother collects vertical.

If you can't find a reliable source to Phoenix those boards in Japan, there are a bunch of people in the US. Shoot me a PM if you need help finding someone.

Thank you. I'll look around here for someone. If I can't find anyone, I'll send you a PM.

I'm selling everything and anything, together or not.

A list of the PCBs is in the OP. Still need to confirm which ones work or not.

I believe this should be the premier Japan-GAF gathering spot. Like a hostel for Japan-GAF'ers.

Just pay a fee to help keep hydro (cuz hydro will be dayum expensive) and to help pay the property. BYOB.

If those extra monitors still have chassis attached to them, they could be worth a little money, working or not. Really depends on the monitor model, but you'd probably get at least something for them. You should probably look into what those Capcom games sell for working before pheonixing them, especially if they have to be shipped internationally to do so. Ebay prices on arcade stuff tend to be inflated compared to "real world" sales on Craigslist and arcade forums, for what it's worth.

Also, it looks like there might be a couple New Astro City cabs mixed in there. They have a few more features and tend to be valued a bit higher. Don't know much about the Japanese arcade scene, but from what I understand, the cabs themselves tend to go for around a third to half of what they sell for in the west, mostly due to the much larger supply. Might be worth doing a bulk export sale to someone reputable who will handle all the logistics.

I'm working with some people to get them freighted over to California (minus the stuff the local buyers want)

Selling them to Japanese people in Japan won't net much, but there are many non-Japanese collectors who will pay good money for them here locally :)

OP updated, but incase people jump right to the end:

I am now accepting Pre-Orders for Cabinets.

I'll be shipping around 40 of them to the US, so if you want to guarantee one for yourself, PM me and we'll get one pre-ordered for you.

Any ballpark numbers on the costs involved? Just a rough idea, to scare away those who shouldn't be interested, and encourage those who might be.
