Well, here's hoping for the best. I already know that the game isn't what I would have wanted it to be, so I'll judge it on what it is. Let's see how this turns out.

I'm going to get it.

I'm just wondering how long this game is going to be. Sonic games are usually over quickly.

Well, it's four zones. The game has been changed since all of the footage leaked out, sure, but it's not insane to assume you'll be able to clear the game in under two hours. Between those four zones is 13 levels, and at an average of four minutes each, that's roughly 52 minutes total.

For $15.

I really don't see the problem with this game. It will never....EVER live up to it's previous games, not matter what sega did. You know why? Because fans can't be pleased....ever.

This is what we want:

The Labrynth video restored my faith enough that I'll be buying the first episode at least. Now if its shit, then I won't get 2 and I'm out what, fifteen bucks? Big deal.

Sega fucked up the 3d games and i know that ( the werewolve shit failed and Sonic 2006 makes Baby Jesus cry and then crucify himself.) But this is pretty much what I would expect from a Sonic game in 2010.

This is just going off of what I've seen but it seems like they gave you the slower, platform based gameplay. with the homing attack It looks dated to me but meh that's kinda what you all asked for.

Oh well, I will try it out but not expecting much.
No they did not. I would not be complaining if they did.

I'll admit that I haven't watched much but I still it doesn't seem to be Sonic Rush HD like some people have said.

Besides, i thought that people liked Sonic Rush?

Sonic Rush doesn't play like Sonic 1-3K. So it doesn't matter if people like it or not, that isn't the issue.

You're wronger.

Seriously, where are you getting this from? Nobody asked for the homing attack as a requirement for Sonic 4, and the few people who like the mechanic generally approve of a harmless option to turn it on/off.

Combined with your admitance of stating broad opinions having watched barely any of the linked videos, I'd love to know exactly what facts you are basing these wild unsubstantiated opinions on.

Yeah you're right, I shouldn't be basing it off of what I admit is very little view of what this game looks like. I didn't realize that people hated the homing attack as mush as they do and as someone stated earlier that since this game is Sonic 4 then it shouldn't play like Sonic Rush. Ok so i'm caught up. I really haven't been keeping up with the Fanbase of Sonic so forgive me for my ignorance on that topic.

Still at least in my opinion, I don't think the video that you posted looks that fun. Just my opinion but thanking about it I have no clue how Sega could make a fun 2d Sonic game with 3d graphics that doesn't look off, then again HD sprites would help that either. Sega can't really recapture that magic.

Still I apologize for the baseless claims earlier.

You really want a Sonic game to look photorealistic? REALLY? REALLY you do?

I'd prefer hand-drawn HD sprites that expertly build on the thematic wonder of the genesis games, with bold brilliant colour. Its nice to want things.

But even though its not the direction I'd prefer, I can see the merits of this exceptional video. The 2.5D style it shows is infinitely more impressive that Sonic 4's attempt.

That video is a CG remake, so close to the original to have probably been based on a gameplay clip, of the first zone from Sonic 3 & Knuckles. So, independently on how it looks, it retains the exact same gameplay (even if faked, being a video) as what is considered by many the best Sonic game ever made.

This is going to be one of the worst OTs ever. Thread's already filled with people who aren't buying the game but want to complain at length about it for what it is.

Ah well, should be a good test run for the DmC OT at least.

Seeing those fan videos get posted at every mention of Sonic 4 is really annoying.

I honestly think if Sega actually made one of those as S4, even more people would still decry the game for just being a 3D remake and cashing in on the past.

The thread had to end up worse than DmC, right?

And how does Super Sonic work if there are only 4 acts? You can become super on 4 emeralds?
Three gameplay acts per zone = you can get Super Sonic by the first level of Casino Street if you don't suck.

Third act is a full level and not just a boss level? And I'm assuming Casino Street is the second level?

Yeah, bosses have their own act, Game Gear Sonic style.

Casino Street should be the third zone, but maybe it's Lost Labyrinth. I'm not sure anymore.

I think Casino Street is the third level. At least, it's the third that Sega revealed.

And yes, three full acts and a separate boss act.

I'm guessing there won't be a demo before release?

Its probably going to be the usual trial the day of release. No demo for wiiware of course (would be nice though).

Sonic 3 is the worst of the genesis games IMO, but Sonic & Knuckles is fucking incredible. Personally Sonic CD is my favorite Sonic game, but Sonic & Knuckles is the closest damn second there ever was.

Having an option to turn it off is stupid. Either put it in the game and make levels that make use of it, or leave it out. Having an optional homing attack makes absolutely no sense. It's like asking for Nintendo to put in a switch to turn off Mario's waggle spin move in Galaxy. Or asking old Sega to put in a switch so you can turn off the spin dash.

Say what you will about how lame Sonic 4 looks (and it does look kinda bad), but the optional homing attack is a pretty dumb idea.

Besides, the homing attack is not the problem with recent Sonic games. The problem with recent Sonic games is their lack of tight control, their buggy releases and their scattershot experimentation with terrible alternate gameplay styles that don't have anything to do with platforming. The fact that the best Sonic games were on the Genesis does NOT mean that every single thing has to be EXACTLY LIKE the Genesis games in order for the game to be good.

It just has to be kinda sorta close, which this is definitely not.
