SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 4 or AGAINST |OT| of Huelen in Green-Eyed Heaven

Huelen is probably beyond hyped. I haven't talked to him in a while but it seems like he's getting his perfect mix of everything he wants to see in a Sonic game (excluding the friends). If nothing else, this game can be seen as a Grant a Wish fund for one of our fallen brethren.

Will probably check out this game, I like the Dimps Sonic games but to be honest this is Sonic Advance 4 HD to me not Sonic The Hedgehog 4.

I hope this thread remains readable. Going into this game with a little cautious optimism.

But past Sonic threads here at the GAF....well. Yeah. No.

that's probably the joke
Eh, given Willy105's posts in the other threads he probably doesn't think it's a joke.

I would have gone with an equation more like (Sonic 1 + Sonic 2 + Sonic 3 & Knuckles) - most of the things that made those games great = Sonic 4

Holy crap, I've been subscribed to the Needlemouse and reveal threads since they were created, and only after reading this thread did I discover the games were coming out in less than 2 weeks. I thought the release date was still TBA :lol

Bah, I'm still gonna get it.

The OP was made by a non optimal Sonic fan. I can tell from the use of "Mobius" and by having seen quite a few furries in my time.

Just kidding, I'm still on the fence with this game. I know I will hate and nitpick it endlessly if I buy it, but it's been a long time since Unleashed and I need a Sonic fix. Still too expensive.

I'll probably wait for a sort of sale on this one. I just have too much else going on. Is there going to be a demo on PS3 for it, or is that not confirmed?

Will get the moment the price goes down or it ends up in a compilation pack with all the episodes. Sonic Colors can keep me going until then.

Maturity, bitches.
To be fair the green eyes do make sense when you consider that Sonic is green with envy for Mario.

I'm curious to see how different it is now from the leaks. I hope for their sakes they fixed the music for the final zone.

I know everyone seems to love Casino themed zones in Sonic games, but I've always hated them. At least we're getting my least favorite Zone type out of the way with Episode I. :D

In one word? Clusterfuck.

Depends on if we're talking about a handful of people who really don't like it, or a handful of people who like it, since Neogaf is pretty split on it.

Don't know if I'm getting this game or not yet. I'm a little curious but promised myself that I'd stop rewarding Sega for bad behavior years ago and have stuck to that since then. The whole episodic bit kills my interest more than anything else. Will probably wait for worthwhile impressions or lots of footage.

Or, play the demo on XBLA. Which is required of Sega to do, you know?

Also: AGAINST. The only Sonic 4 in my heart is Sonic and Knuckles.

Oh yeah, this travesty is about to come out. Didn't even consider that an official thread would be made. Oh well, I'll try the XBLA trial but I don't I'll be buying.

One thing is for sure and it's that I'm buying this badboy on release day October 13th for the 360, specifically for the rumored Awardables it comes with. I've been waiting for this game since before it was announced and I'm glad it's finally coming home. Yea, $15 is steep for just four worlds but it all should be a blast no matter what, so I'm not worried! I'm a big Sonic fan and this looks fantastic to me. Of course, so does both versions of Sonic Colors!

Hm, I've got an iPod Touch, Wii & 360. Which platform should I get it for? :lol I'm kinda leaning towards the 360.

Well aside from not liking what I played of it, I'd say Sega's handling of it can be considered a clusterfuck by all parties.

The cheapest one of course! iPod Touch! Not to mention the lead platform is usually the best one ;o

Not actually that important
Great OP.
Neat Thread title.
Disgraceful sub-title.
Maybe 50% chances I'll buy it.
I should probably stop writing like this.
But what the hell I can't, just one more time.
Damn if it's really Sonic rush HD then I'm all FOR it

Be glad, mine would have been:

Mama Robotnik's Sonic the Hedgehog 4 |OT| of lets laugh at Sega's latest crime against gaming

Background

Sega were originally making a 2D Sonic for the iPhone, they decided to rename it Sonic 4 and upscale it to the consoles.

Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka says that all the negative perceptions of recent Sonic games are the fans fault because 2D fans want 2D games, and 3D fans want 3D games, and are nothing to do with their quality. So we have this release for the 2D fans that'll hopefully shut us up. Did I mention that Sega think The only Sonic game in nineteen years to miss the mark is the classic "Sonic Chaos", so at least they have something they want to improve on.

Gameplay

-Featuring vastly inferior graphics, sound and music to the fifteen-year-old Sonic and Knuckles.

-With level design that intentionally punishes you for not spamming the homing attack.

-Sonic the Hedgehog 4 builds on the previous game by providing, um, four levels, all of which are thematic carbon copies of Sonic 1 and 2's zones.

-The physics are so inept and baffling that if Nintendo were making this, Miyamoto himself would have Chabudai Gaeshi'd the project.

-If you buy the iPhone version, Sega will reward you with this exclusive level:

nz21ac.jpg

Price

Four levels = Fifteen dollars.

Any news on Episode 2?

Sega have confirmed that the only part of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 they have completed is writing its story, which might give you an idea of their priorities.

So you're Sega, and you want to make a game called "Sonic the Hedgehog 4"; with all the expectations that such a weighty name infers.

Do you:make the most epic 2D game imaginable, that uses the most beautifully drawn HD-sprites to create a new land of thematic beauty for Sonic to explore? Using a perfect physics engine as basis, painstakingly created using the movements in the original games as basis, Sonic jumps, spins, and uses momemtum-based movement to progress. The game jetissons all qualities of the failed games (excessive boosters, grinding, homing attacks, repugnant "friends"), and we have a black-eyed Sonic once again fighting off the machinations of the evil Doctor Robotnik.

With a soundtrack that expands the MIDI stylings of the original into more modern territory, a multiplayer mode inspired heavily by Sonic 2, and a wealth of other options, a genuine rich sequel to the classics is achieved. Coupled with that, the game is accompanied with a Sonic Level Creator (refined from the Flash version) which, with access to the bandiks, spirte-sheets, backgrounds and music of all Sonic 1-3K, CD, and the MS games, allows gamers to mix and match, create and share their own fully-functioning Sonic games online, in a custom-content archive (regularly updated with new sprites and midis from classic Sega games) that will truly allow 2D Sonic to live forever.

Just to add that despite my bitterness, Willy105, you've done a fine job with the OP, its presentable, enthusiastic and thorough. Nice work. This isn't the game for me, clearly, but if some people enjoy it then that's something positive I suppose.

I will say I cant wait to give this trial a shot. I had fun with Sonic Advance 1, and this doesnt really look all that bad. OT design is nice too.

Would be awesome if this turned out to be fun, along with Sonic Colors Wii.

very excited about this game but wondering if there is any kind of a wireless "classic controller" for the 360?

best part of your OP to be honest :lol

I really don't see the problem with this game. It will never....EVER live up to it's previous games, not matter what sega did. You know why? Because fans can't be pleased....ever.

Sega fucked up the 3d games and i know that ( the werewolve shit failed and Sonic 2006 makes Baby Jesus cry and then crucify himself.) But this is pretty much what I would expect from a Sonic game in 2010.

This is just going off of what I've seen but it seems like they gave you the slower, platform based gameplay with the homing attack. It looks dated to me but meh that's kinda what you all asked for.

Oh well, I will try it out but not expecting much.

I didn't realize the iPhone release was quite so soon, I guess I was pushing it.

At least John can't complain about me not using his title.

Most people are just thrown off from the inclusion of homing attack in 2d and overabundance of speed boosters.

Ok I can see that being a problem. It's just that i popped into a older thread about this game and saw people going crazy over sonic's eyes....so I figured the real issue was anal-retentive things.

Then yeah carry on.

Xbox live demo will make or break this for me. If it feels floaty and off( which it in all likelihood will :( ), no go.

Most of the gripes have been regarding the controls, physics, and feeling of movement, which in a Sonic game, are crucially important.
