They won;t be able to do that sadly, but they will do really well in the rest of the world anyway. There is nothing they can do to save the ps4 in Japan.
There's always China to consider. If it ever kicks off relatively well there, it should more than take some of the slack off the lesser sales in Japan.
They should have mentioned The Last Guardian. I would have loved the gaf topic based on that.
Square enix is not going to announce a release date until the middle of 2015 most likely.

And that China bit is wishful thinking. It's going to have a hard time competing against the grey market. I also saw a poll linked on Gamefaqs (sorry don't remember to what site, just disregard me if you wish) that showed China's interest in the PS4 vs Xbox mirrored the rest of the world before the consoles released. That is they were anticipating the PS4 more. Eh, wait that's the guy that had the meltdown.

You're forgetting Canada and Mexico.
People's stated positions often don't match up with their purchases. How many people in the U.S. complain about everything being made in China/Pakistan/Bangladesh/Mexico/Guatemala? Now out of those how many only or even mostly buy things with the 'Made in the U.S.A.' sticker on them?
Another example that comes to mind is of the Japanese nationalists who were driving around blaring anti-US sentiments from a loud speaker..on a GM van.

Sony is pretty much guaranteed to have well over 16 million by the end of the holidays.
We're barely into Q3 and in Q4 alone Sony will sell 6 million.

Yeah, it isn't uncommon to have different publishers by region or platform. If you check out Wikipedia, it will usually show the different publishers for different regions and platforms. However Wikipedia doesn't have SCE listed for Japan at the moment. But hey, Wikipedia isn't always up to date or correct.

I wish swiftdeath around to let me know if I'm off.we still have the rest Of August followed by 4 more months. Ps4 has been selling over a million a month so far. With destiny in September and holidays coming, 16m~17m looks alot more plausible.
Uhhh, I think you have it backwards. USA is commonly referred to as north America. Canada, USA, Mexico, and South America are referred to as the Americas.

No, USA is 'Merica.
Only selling an extra 4 million from August 11th to the end of the year would be fairly low. The PS4 might nearly reach that 4 million WW just from November and December alone.
We have the rest of the month of August, which will probably be around at least 600k WW. Then we will have a huge month in September with sales likely reaching over 1m WW thanks to Destiny and the white PS4. That leaves October which should at least be in the ~800k range WW.
Keep in mind to reach 10m sales the PS4 had to average about 750k consoles sold per month from April to July/August 10th.
