Sony's New "Guy Smelling Pink Panties Cause He Wants A Pink PS2" Advert

The PS2 ads (well the creepy ones again) are done by TBWA-Paris. They recently did a PS2 commercials that's really messed up and NSFW as it features amputated breasts with their nipples being tweaked along with a rotating hand machine slapping asses.

Funny that you say it's NSFW, because I saw it for the first time AT work, a coworker showed it to me, and later I saw several others watching it and showing it around in the office, with girls in the audience... Keep in mind we're in a relatively conservative Middle Eastern society... I guess it's one of the perks of working in an advertising agency :lol

I just LOVE the marketing campiangs from SCEE, they rock hard!!! Too bad we usually get conventional marketing from SCEA (aside from some cool ones, like PS9)

Totally disagree. These things are just weird to be weird, and are people just trying to show off how "artistic" they are without giving a damn about the product and what feelings/emotions to convey. There are plenty of ad campaigns that are weird AND work to promote the product - BK's "The King" stuff jumps to my mind instantly. Most of these are not at all in that catagory.

If this is advertising being "cool" (which it isn't), then I'm glad we aren't cool over here.

I like them, especially the latter ones in this thread reminds me of Andrei Khrjanovsky cartoons (brought into real life).

what. the. ****?!?!!??!

why they ****ing hell did i click on this thread?!?!? My day was going fine until I clicked this.

I do hate advertising like this... All for shock value, like the product isn't good enough to be featured so they have to show something else unrelated instead. Yawn. (Although some of them were amusing, you could prolly slap any other company's logo on it and it'll work)

Shock value is there, sure, but they are totally unrelated to the product? Way to not get the message of the ads.

Some of them I got, some of them I didn't.

Doesn't matter much to me anyway... I'm immune to having opinions based on advertising.

i'm sorry how does the adultery ad relate to Playstation Video Game Consoles?
maybe you can enlighten the rest of us

The adultery one?
The one with a girl and two guys?
Why would you refer to that as adultery?
Where did you get that she is married to anyone of those guys?

Anyways, if that's the one, the message is connection (through gaming) and having fun, which is pretty simple to get, given their faces, and the position in which they are in.
The ads are all "weird" because of the 'Live in your world, play in our motto' and, with weirdness like that, it is easy to use real people to depict a "fantasy and unreal" world.

Great topic. These Sony ads are real interesting, and I spent half an hour googling Charlie White based on that Joshua puppet.

You guys are reading this ad all wrong; he accidentially dumped a bit of his coke stash on those panties while playing PS2... Like it or not, we'd probably all do the same thing (that shit is expensive).

Anyone know about those shorts which they aired during Champions League matches? The ones with the two guys in a dark gritty room and the vulture? Those are so awesome. :lol I still can't figure those out completely, but they're still great. Another great one is the "I lived" commercial, with all the random youngsters telling these stories about conquering worlds, commanding armies etc. Or the one where all these people come together to built up one big pile of humans which trounces the skyscrapers around it. :lol The documentary one with the golfers vs. the pornstars is still the best though.

What the jesus. I fail to see how a creative editor can think that's make for a good ad. Just WTF.
Have you ever seen an ad from Benetton or Diesel?

I'd say this is conventional advertising.

Ever heard the expression "sex sells"?

Ads like these work all the time. Do you guys realize that Sony wins advertising awards like every year? :lol

Wake up.

Awards for originality or effectiveness?

I'm not sure. I just know that every single year Sony walks away with the best advertising awards. I mean lets be honest if it came down to effectiveness wouldn't these ads be deemed great?

I mean their lead other there in Europe console wise is greater than any other territory in the world.
