This will mean nothing to most in here but it's huge for me and I thought I would share!

Finally got my hands on a copy of Blawan's white label release Getting Me Down (Down001). Biggest tune of 2011. Picked up a couple other tracks of Oneman's 502 label as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RJy2-F2irA

I picked it up too. Tried to get it on Juno but it kept making me have -1 copies in my cart and it got all messed up so I found another place to order from.

Are there better sites to buy used vinyl from besides GEMM and MusicStack? I'm not looking for anything too uncommon, mostly just interested in good deals on '70s and '80s artists/bands that I never find locally.

you got the correct answer but I'd just like to point out that Gemm and MusicStack must have the worst search engines in the history of the internet. I'm pretty sure Gemm is exactly the same today as it was when I first saw it in 2002 or 2003. And MusicStack is just a carbon copy of Gemm.

i recommend making a want list too-- they send you updates on when stuff on your want list is for sale. I've snagged some great cheap stuff like that.

I always wondered who actually uses Gemm/MusicStack. They're so incredibly confusing and broken that they come off looking like scam sites.

Bought mine at a show in St Louis a couple weeks ago. I have Leitmotif and The Pariah... on vinyl too. Amazing band and solid dudes as well. Kudos on your taste.

i've found one record I've wanted at a reasonable price...all my other wants are ridiculously priced. I think I bought CDs on there way back before I learned of Amazon marketplace (early 2000s.)

I just picked up John Fahey's Requia (the Vanguard re-issue), John Fahey's Vol. 4: The Great San Bernardino Birthday Party (original issue), The Lounge Lizard's S/T LP (first pressing with textured jacket), The Fall's Perverted by Language (UK Rough Trade original press), and Azalia Snail's Snailbait. I am going to try and pick up that EMA Past Life Martyred Saints LP at Waterloo if they have it today. Also I have a hold for 2 Incredible String Band albums (Wee Tam and the Big Huge) and Replacement's Tim at Breakaway but I think I am going to get one of them (leaning towards Tim since I am not really a big fan of those String Band records but will still be nice to own).

WHAT THE WHAT

On Letting Go is fucking BRILLIANT.

Blue Sky Noise is easily their worst*.

*Circa Survive's 'worst' is still miles better than most other shit.

I used to use Gemm all the time but have not really used it in a while due to not spending all that much money on records anymore.

Also, why do you want to buy picture discs? They sound like shit.

Honestly, at that price you can buy a Rega RP1 brand new. I would go for that, personally. Try your local hi-fi store and see what other turntables they have near or at that price.

Bought a lot** of records this week.

zjGgil.jpg

The Beatles - Sgt. Peppers
Led Zeppelin - In Through The Out Door
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
Radiohead - Amnesiac
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People
Sigur Ros - Takk

(** Lot relative to my record buying habits.)

Hi vinyl GAF! I recently started my collection with both old and new albums. My dad gave me his old Fisher component, it's very far from an audiophile setup, but I'll have to settle with this while I save some money for my "real" equipment:

IMG_7418_mini.jpg

Here's some of my stuff (click for huge size):

From left to right:

Enrique Bunbury - Las Consecuencias
Radiohead - OK Computer (2 disc edition)
Pearl Jam - Ten (re-issue)
Nirvana - Bleach (20th anniversary 2 disc edition)
Deep Purple - Made in Japan
Boston - Boston
Scorpions - Love at First Sting
Helloween - Live in the UK

I have some more, a big stack of mexican stuff, like mariachi and 80's pop from my parents. Pics later.

Now I want some advice. I would love to buy a Debut III or a Rega, but I'm in Mexico and the shipping + import fees for one of those would increase the price maybe $150-200 more (and then I would need to add more import+shipping fees for a preamp and speakers), so I'm currently looking at my options in the used market.

I want to know if any of you guys have any information or feedback on the AIWA AP-D50

Some guy is selling this in a local auction site, he says it's Hi-fi quality and the price is quite attractive, something like 200-220 dollars. Should I buy it or wait for something else?

Gotta get that james blake album

so strange and awesome
Definitely get it. It sounds phenomenal on 180g Vinyl. My favourite album of the year without a doubt. Though I guess the avatar may have given that away already. I just keep getting back to it time and time again. Never get tired of it.

Hey dudes, I posted this in the stupid question thread but no reply. So any advise is really appreciate it. I just purchase a Audio Technica turntable and I own a set of powered monitors by Behringer. I dont know what receiver or mixer do I need to finish off this set up. Want something that let me hook up mp3 player/other audio devices and what not. Gonna pick up a sub later on down the line. Trying to spend up to $500. Open up to any suggestions. Appreciate it. (Amazon links of what I own on the bottom)

These two recently arrived to my collection:

Both are great, probably my favorite albums released this year so far. Wasting Light is the 2, 45RPM Lp's version; sounds as good as I expected.

I ended up buying the AIWA turntable; I received it 2 days ago. I still need to get an amp and preamp but it looks like a great starting point for my entry level, audiophile setup. It's really heavy with a steel platter and everything; the cartridge looks decent (it's a Shure R47XT), but I will certainly upgrade it in the future.

Damn, this is an addictive hobby, I just want more and more Lp's and gear.

you guys were right, that James Blake album has some sick production. Gonna be interesting to see him at pitchfork this year. Not sure how well his stuff is gonna translate live and at a sweaty outdoor show.

still jet lagged as fuck, wide awake at 5am, but I put on Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works and its going nicely with my coffee.

So thrilled with the pile that I came home with tonight:

IMG_7216.jpg

IMG_7217.jpg

Madonna - Like a Virgin, True Blue, Like a Prayer
Kate Bush - The Dreaming, Hounds of Love, Sensual World
Stevie Nicks - Bella Donna
Fleetwood Mac - Mirage
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life

Orbital - Middle of Nowhere
John Lennon - Imagine, Double Fantasy
2001 and Barry Lyndon soundtracks (bought these more for the artwork than the music)
Fine Young Cannibals - The Raw and the Cooked
George Michael - Faith

Most of them were 99¢ and the rest were only a few dollars.

I wish I found some Kate Bush records for a dollar. I always want to own them but I am like "I can find them cheaper than 5 bucks." I am lame indeed.

The vinyl scene in Toronto is falling apart. :(

- Slinky Music closed up at the end of June cuz Moog Audio bought out their side of the store
- Criminal Records is closing at the end of June due to lease negotiations falling through and "personal issues"
- Sonic Boom is being kicked out by their landlords for a Dollerama, moving to a smaller space inside Honest Ed's.

The worst part about Slinky and Criminal dying is that they were both 3 mins from my office so I could hop over at lunch to pick things up.

Now all we're going to have is the attitude and high prices of Rotate This and the shit selection at all the smaller places like Penguin, Kops, Cosmos West, etc

I got this too. I think it's remastered too...sounds extra nice.

I know the Friend Opportunity rerelease along side this was the remastered one from record store day. I hope they do Runner's Four next, that album could sound way better on vinyl.

I really like Runners four as well. Here's another pic of some of my Deerhoof stuff: Apple O on blue vinyl, Offend Maggie, Green Cosmos on green vinyl, and the Matchbook 7 inch picture disk

Good deal. I've got the same stuff, but replace offend maggie with friend opportunity and "The Perfect Me" picture disc instead of Matchbook Seeks Maniac.

Waahooooo. A couple of very very rare Kate Bush demo albums from the '70s:

Admittedly, I shall listen to them both (already have this stuff in mp3 anyway) and then hopefully flip 'em for a nice profit.

Seeing your Kate Bush purchases makes me miss my records so much. They're down south until I'm back in school, oh how I miss them!

Any of you folks live in/near London Ontario?

I'll be moving there in Sept. and I was wondering if there were any decent record shops.

I stopped in at Grooves, but holy fuck they are expensive. I got Battles - Gloss Drop, Destroyer - Kaputt and Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest... came to $85. Ouch. They had excellent prices EDIT: NOT PRICES selection, but when prices for records seem to start at $25... I dunno.

Any help?

For now I've been ordering from insound.com and shipping to a US P.O. box, but that'll mean an hour and 40 minute drive, plus a bridge toll to pick up new records once I move to London. Hrm. I stopped at Sunrise records too, but they're worse. Most stuff was $30+
