Sunsoft and Gaijinworks Team Up in NA: Blaster Master to VC and NIHON TELENET RIGHTS

I suppose this is a relatively big deal in terms of what can be published in the near future, but I'm rather disappointed that there isn't a single actual title specified with details, and there are no solid details on what to specifically expect from this deal. Sorry, but lame press release!

Specifics are still being worked out, but the amount of IP in this deal is really staggering. There's a LOT of really good stuff in the Telenet library, and the majority never left Japan.

Well yes, but I was expecting some sort of announcement indicating when we will see the first actual Gaijinworks product, and when it will hit retail shelves. :lol

All in good time. There's a lot going on behind the scenes, and managing it all is really time-consuming.

Am i reading this right and YOU'RE in charge of what gets released, Vic?

To be able to take charge of a full-fledged development team must be like a dream come true.

For all I know it's probably crappy, but I'd love to see a port of that Valis keitai game they did a few years ago.

If this means doing things like translating Cosmic Fantasy 1,3 and 4 though.... and well, would you leave certain things in part 3 or edit those out *coughリムダイスキ。cough* :D

Okay, this sounds pretty amazing but before I start bouncing around or saying fuck yeah, can someone Youtube link to some of the games that we Westerners can get a chance to play from this deal?

The Carte Blanche doesn't extend quite that far, but I'm helping get the lineup decided and moving forward to release.

I always wondered who would get the rights to the Telenet library after they went under. Telenet was always a company that interested me back in the day, they published all of these obscure anime titles that were usually pretty fun. It still amazes me how games like Valis came out in the west at the time, all of the beautiful artwork and cinematics did a good job of masking an otherwise average game, haha.

Telenet and WD/Gaijinworks is definitely a perfect match.

It would be awesome if they could bring all of the PC Engine CD titles on the VC, I never managed to play any of them, only the Genesis ports (including that horrible SD game). Resurrecting the franchise would also be pretty cool since I actually liked those games back in the day, although I wonder if it's relevant anymore. Any chances of bringing out a translation of Valis PC-CD? I've heard good things of that port...

Maybe my dream of re-translating old Japanese-only VC games for US/Europe consumption will finally come true...

Not just that, but also the superior Japanese versions of stuff on VC, most notably Konami's VRC catalog.

Well, Vic was right about this not being something anyone would predict. :lol

It's pretty funny given how much he always loved localizing shooters; Telenet's got quite a few of those.

My initial reaction to this was, "Oh, cool, Cosmic Fantasy, El Viento, and Valis will come to the VC," but after reading the PR's specific mention of stuff coming over here for the first time, I'm very excited.

If nothing else, Cosmic Fantasy 2 was always one of my dream VC games since I never had a TG-16 as a kid and always wanted to play it, so seeing it become a likely release is awesome. And yeah, the Telnet library's got some cool potential as far as new games and remakes go. It's all quite obscure, but digital distribution makes it easier to get the word out about that kind of stuff.

I will wait and see on which Telenet games end up where, but I am now fully prepared to purchase a Wii for the sole purpose of VC if my Telenet favorites arrive in the US.

Oh you know, he's going to bring over Telenet's recent games of note, like the Valis X series, or the ARCUS X series, or the recent Mahou no Shoujo Silky Lips remake.

There are a lot of wonderful properties to explore here, can't wait to see what Vic gets his hands on!

I feel vindicated -- while there is far more to it, a big chunk of the secret is the impending release of a pile of stuff on the Virtual Console. Bwahahahaaaaaa!

God, I love the Valis series, this news couldn't have been any better.

Wonder if there's any chance getting the SEGA CD version of Earnest Evans on VC.... That has a great soundtrack

I always had the impression that Turbo CD games were more likely to use the CD for music (which means Virtual Console storage isn't a problem), whereas Sega CD stuff was far more likely to use the CD for video files (which aren't going to compress as well on the Wii -- not to mention the fact that it would require reprogramming the game and the internal video decoders, rather than simply emulating redbook audio using compressed audio files.)

Any idea how many Sega CD titles could actually be transferred over to Virtual Console, based on file sizes?

I only vaguely understand what this means... but I've wanted to get into Valis so this is good news!

I only have a few more extras to sell on eBay, but I've been way, way too busy the last couple months to even list them.

I knew Vic was up for something big when I stopped receiving updates for new listings in his eBay account ;)

¿Cosmic Fantasy 2? On VC? On all its glorious TurboCD version? Sign me in already

Don't believe the hype...

You mean I have a chance of seeing Earnest Evans with Real, non puppet animation, a solid, fully concieved version of Anet Futatabi with solid fight and magic systems, Multiplayer Arcus Oddesey for online play, and non-hentai Valis? (what a sad day that was...)

Now if only Sega didn't develop Gain Ground... -ahem-

Yeah, ok, that's all awesome. Nice foundation you've got here, I look forward to seeing what's built upon it!

Still waiting on these announcements:

- Falcom PSP games
- Tengai Makyou 4th Apocalypse PSP

Ys 7 is awesome. I'm almost done with it and it just brings back so many fond memories of I & II for me that I just want to squeeze my little PSP to death every time I play.

If Vic got 7 there will be a lot of happy non-Japanese gamers.

Wolfteam was a completely owned Telenet Japan subsidiary except for the first two years, so yea, the whole of Wolfteam's library except maybe Crystal Chaser and Shinsengumi should be included in the deal if it covers all of Telenet's assets.

I guess I can also dream of an official "Sakuraba's complete early works 1989-1994+" soundtrack compilation again.

!!!

Gaiares has been one of my virtual console dream games since before launch.

Also, I was just thinking yesterday it would be nice to have the Earnest Evans games on VC.
