Super Mario Odyssey - The Odyssey Journal (JP) (IMAGE HEAVY)

Sn4ke_911

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
There's a clip from Gamescom of the presenter literally skipping the first Sand Kingdom objective by jumping across the big gap with two mid-air cappy throws. The way you can chain your movement is pretty insane, and you can already piece together which moons can be skipped entirely in a speedrun haha

Maybe it's the small size of the GIF, but this game is looking really good.

There are so many tiny gameplay details I didn't notice before, like the camera seeming to stay where you'll land even if the arc of the jump goes slightly off screen and the trail of smoke puffs that indicate your movement vector and distance you'll go

This is going to be my daughter's first 3D Mario game. She's only played the 2D Mario games on our NES classic. She's going to be in for a real treat.

Thanks for posting these. Never thought I'd see a modern core Mario game promoted with Kotabe style art again, the lead up to this game is just pure joy.

I am the only one who thinks the hat kindgom will be REALLY small.
-We know you'll meet cappy there
-You'll capture the frog and it looks like it will be the tutorial for the mechanic.
-We have seen few footage from that world.
-In ads, I feel like they're showing new donk city as the first full kingdom.

I hope I'm mistaken and it is a full kingdom or you can come back later.

May we never return to an acrobat-less Mario again.

I see it as pretty similar to the Gateway Galaxy in SMG1, basically just a small tutorial area you don't spend too long in. There'll be enough content and enough Kingdoms in this game don't worry :)

Everything looks unbelievably good.

I will say that I see it being very likely that the game will be a LOT more fun to play with the Pro controller over the Joy Cons, if BOTW is anything to go by, and this seems to require a lot more precise controls than that one.

Poor Breath of the Wild, just when it thought it had the GotY title in the bag lol...

This looks phenomenal. The leap over 3D World in terms of lighting, materials, models and textures is insane! Claymation come to life!

It does show you how hard shadow projections is a problem to solve though. Everytime Mario jumps on a tall straight object perpendicular to the ground the shadow kind of falls apart, but it is not like many games do much better than that (at 60 FPS and on a device with Switch's specs...).
