I hope I wasn't the only one who didn't know what it meant, and was wondering why this is news.
I probably did as a child. I've heard the word before, but I think I just thought it was a silly nonsense name you could call a kid who danced crazy (like jiggling all over) or a silly creature (like jinjos from Banjo Kazooie). I have no idea where the word originally entered my vocabulary though.

I remember the "Jigga what? Jigga who?" thing being popular back in the day (15 years ago maybe?) I don't even know what it was a reference from, I never bothered looking into it back then. Since I haven't heard it being used in like at least 10+ years, I still haven't looked into it and really don't feel like wasting the time.

And I'm from not Texas. Does that help you address my question as to what situation could have someone with an education look at the situation and deem it appropriate?
Closer to Fort Worth. HEB are the three cities that sit between Dallas and Fort Worth, strung along 183. I drive past the school all the time. It's a lower middle to upper middle class neighborhood, with a mix of black, white, and hispanic students, mostly. The wealthier folks live north of the freeway, the less wealthy south.

From South Texas myself. I had never knew that was a racist term, in fact I don't even remember ever hearing the word. It's certainly not common in South Texas and the bigger cities.
That being said, there are usually clear signs a teacher can pick up on from students if they are intentionally picking an offensive name for fun. As a teacher, you should always research any slang or terms you don't know either if being used in any sort of capacity at work.

I'd guess that anyone older than 60 knows the word Jiggaboo, so maybe another 60 years and people might just forget that word too...probably not, but people are getting really dumb.
You should use the not-racist version Jig-HA-boo.
JIG-ah-boo is a pejorative expression against black people whereas jig-HA-boo just is an expression for happy-go-lucky kids that love to learn and be super friends.
