Is out.

Looking forward to GAF's impressions.

If it was 99 cent's I'd give it a go, little risk in it.

I wish they did a lite version.

Touch Arcade's review is out

http://toucharcade.com/2012/02/15/beat-sneak-bandit-review/

5 Stars.

They tend to get excessively hyperbolic so take it with a grain of salt.

Yup, 99 cents I don't mind. But I have different tastes for music games I think, lots of people raved about Groove Coaster but when I played it, I was kinda meh to it because the sound effects didn't seem like they meshed well with the game, hard to explain I guess but something was off and it diminished my enjoyment.

I like Groove Coaster, don't love it, so yeah I see where you are coming from.

Hey y'all. I'm a pretty big iOS gamer, and have spent way too much on way too many iOS games.

The one I always come back to is Sword of Fargoal. It's a rogue-like, and is a remake of an older game of same name.

You start off in level one of a dungeon, goal is to explore and survive, making your way down to lower depths of the dungeon to ultimately find the Sword and make it back out alive.

The whole time you're exploring and finding gold, new weapons, shields, potions, spells, wands, etc., and fighting different creatures who get progressively harder the lower you get in the dungeon.

The thing with these (rogue-like) games is, you're probably not going to win. I mean, you're almost certainly going to die. But it's so much fun on your way to that death! It's definitely one of those "it's the journey, not the destination" kind of feelings. Every time you play you're going to find different combinations of items, and encounter the monsters in different places and ways. One attempt may yield you a badass shield and a bunch of healing potions. You are now a tank. Another playthrough and you've got shitty weapons, but some great attack wands and some invisibility potions. You are now a sneaky little bitch. =)

The graphics are pretty plain, nothing to write home about, but they're good enough to really nail the experience.

I could go on, but basically, from an avid iOS gamer - this game is awesome, and you should try it.

(there are two versions right now, Sword of Fargoal and Sword of Fargoal Legends, I think. I *think* legends is the one to get, as it's universal(?))

Don't buy Beat Sneak if you don't like trial and error.

Loved my first 20 min with it. Presentation is absolutely top notch in general. It's really really slick, with a ton of attention to detail. Sound is also great (with decent headphones). Looks like a pretty fun rhythm/puzzle game.

Re: price discussion- $3 really isn't much to spend on a game you'll get at worst a couple hours of enjoyment out of

Your assessment of the game is confusing. The opening paragraph is very negative, but your next paragraph sounds very positive. Overall do you recommend it? Or do you see the trial and error causing too much frustration?

$3 isn't much for anything. I'm still skeptical because Bump Road also had a great presentation, but after 4-5 plays I was done with it.

Does the rhythm feel right? I finally watched a gameplay video of it (posted on this page) and I like the concept, but I'm avoiding if the timing feels any bit off

Also, holy crap that guy playing is bad.

So when you say trial and error, you mean to say the puzzles can't be solved with pure logic? Because that would be a design issue I don't think I could overlook.

Whoa whoa whoa. I really like it, especially now that I'm in chapter 2. The beat changes and the obstacle patterns are more comlplex. Yes, they can be solved with logic and observation but I found myself taking a few trys to get the puzzles down. That's all I meant by that comment, not as a warning to stay away. I think it's just part of the nature of the game. Again, really like the game so far in chapter 2.

If it looks interesting to you, DEFINITELY get it. Yes, the rhythm feels right, I don't think it could be much better. It also helps that the music is pretty good, and they add things to the standard chapter-songs in each stage to make things interesting (like an extra instrument that helps you time a new obstacle).

I am going to say, "No," but that the game demands much from you rhythmically.

Any new mechanics, which are accompanied by distinct visual queues, are explained at their introduction, so there is no wild guessing. It simply takes patience and skill. You will restart often.

As for comparison to Bumpy Road: I wanted so to love Bumpy Road and found it tedious. Beat Sneak Bandit, while being very unique, is much more traditional and puzzle-oriented, mechanically. It does not suffer from the device's limitations but rather is emboldened by them.

All right, I'm going to take the plunge.

The art style is too neat to pass up.

Worst case scenario I'm out 3 bucks aye? Haha.

I liked Bumpy Road for what's it worth.

Just played the game for about 30/45 minutes or so. As someone who played a lot of Rhythm Tengoku on the GBA, I'm kind of eating this one up.

No, the game isn't trial and error, it's a bit of a logic puzzle because you can only go in one direction and there are multiple timed elements that will change to the beat. This offsets your current direction, depending on the beat, which means that you have to plan out where you're going ahead of time to get to the destination you want. Think something along the lines of Chu Chu Rocket mixed with Rhythm Tengoku.

Also, regarding the question of whether it's on rhythm. Yes it is, and it's at about RT/Rhythm Heaven levels of accuracy.

The graphics are charming and I've only really scratched the surface of it so far. It's definitely worth 3 bucks in the "is this worth more than a 3 dollar taco lunch" sort of way, but whether it's worth 3 bucks in the "is this worth 3 times more than Cut The Rope" kind of way is still undetermined.

FYI, I tried to watch a bit of that Youtube clip that was posted here of somebody playing it poorly, and let me tell you, that clip is painful. Whoever is playing that has no sense of beat at all.

Alright, Beat Sneak Bandit purchased

If this game is great, man, two great rhythm games in the same week?! That's kinda crazy. (Referring to Rhythm Heaven Fever of course)

Add another vote for Beat Sneak Bandit.

Just finished chapter 1. Great rhythm/puzzle game. The rhythm is spot on. If you make a mistake, it's because of YOU, not the game. Just gotta have some patience..especially if you want to collect all 4 clocks before ending the level. Onward to chapter 2!

Yet another game gets it right, making me wish Cytus didn't utterly fail in this regard. =/

Going to have to give this game a shot. Maybe tomorrow.

I can see where the trial and error thing comes from. There's a certain way to solve the levels if you want to collect everything, so some planning and logic in involved. Once you figure out the path, then you have to time your moves around the obstacles. Neat idea. I dig it

For some reason the art style reminds me of EXIT, except better

I could see it becoming frustrating if you are the type of completionist who MUST GET all four clocks.

But yeah, if you just want to play to have fun - I think it's a neat game.

I haven't decided if the game is any good or not yet but Pizza vs Skeletons is fucking gorgeous. Easily some of the best 2D graphics I've seen in pretty much forever. It's just...so fucking pretty.

edit: I've decided - Pizza vs Skeletons is just as fun to play as it is to visually admire.

Ah sweet, by collecting clocks you unlock Shadow Mansion levels.

Got my first with 10 clocks. :)

And the music in these portions is delightful.

Yeah, BSB is hot. I recommend it but there is trial and error for 100% completeness and you do need some rhythm. There's a visual aid though to help you if you're not good at rhythm.

Blocks Cometh looks cool, and it has that guy from League of Evil! Will download

Which of Kairosoft's games are worth picking up beyond Game Dev Story?

If you want another game on the same "frame" but different theme, go for Grand Prix Story. If you'd like to see their other game models, I suggest you pick up MegaMall Story (side scrolling builder), Venture Towns (sim city sort of) and Pocket League.

The other games available aren't bad games at all but they are all on one of those 4 game models. Sometimes with less options gameplay opportunities.

Fractal: Make Blooms Not War is now free. Saw the Giantbomb quicklook of the pc version and it looked interesting if a little confusing.

Anyway, after a few hours, I'd recommend it to all but the most rhythmless people. I can definitely see myself going back to get some missed clocks, and working on the bonus levels. I find that when I get particularly familiar with a level, I tend to stick with it to get as many clocks as possible.

How many chapters are there currently?

This is what I meant to say earlier. I forgot that the phrase "trial and error" usually carries a negative connotation around here, lol.

New Whale Trail challenge pack!

Nice! Glad to see they're supporting it despite their allegedly lackluster sales.

40 main levels and 16 shadow levels.

Seems like a nice chunk of content.

I'm so glad I didn't pass up on this. It's such a unique and charming concept! My only gripe is that some of the traps take a little long to activate.

Seriously, lads, Pizza vs Skeletons is so good. I almost feel like I'm coming off like I'm shilling for the game at this point but I don't even care because it's so good.

Little Acorns looks neat. Waiting for a Vita download to finish before I get Beat Sneak Bandit. Can't wait to play it.

I've had that game for awhile and have yet to play it. I've been waiting for a chance to sit down and really get into it as it doesn't seem to be one of those games you play here and there.

Just got notification that Neuroshima Hex is down from 4.99 to 2.99. Worth it for a boardgame/strategie-lover?

Yes definitely. It takes a lot of planning and understanding to win. The puzzle version is also a good bit of fun for a strategy lover

Has anyone else tried the Epic Quest table that has been added to the Zen Pinball app yet?

I am really enjoying it. So much so that I picked it up on XBLA aswell. Basically the table has persistant elements. You have a hero who levels up the more you play and his sole motivation is killing monsters for loot. As you defeat monsters you get more and more high quality loot which follows the traditional MMO colour codings. The new gear all shows on your knights avatar on the table and his levels and gear are retained for each new play through.

Its 69p/99c via in app purchase and looks lovely on my ipad 2. Recommended.

Besides the 56 (+the finale) normal levels, there is a little secret after completing the finale... :)
