The Last of Us 2 needs to transition to full RPG gameplay

I hope Naughty Dog turns it into a music rythym game.

Play guitar as Ellie, and Joel shoots infected while you're hitting notes on the screen that correspond to the shots hes making. You fail, you both die.

Oh, bitch bitch bitch.
Pretty soon gamers are gonna be asking why this movie they just saw at the theater didn't give them dialogue choices

not every game needs to be an RPG, there's still a place for linear story driven games and ND does 'em better than just about anyone else in the AAA space

A passive versus interactive experience.

This is somehow dumber than the dude on here who was insisting that the way to save Halo was to make it an open world RPG. Some of y'all need to get a grip. The strongest linear games or their genre or even of the last decade+ don't need RPG and open world elements. There is a reason TLOU was as well received as it was.

Make the stealth executions in three stages like Manhunt, I always thought it was lame how TLOU only had one execution animation per enemy. Let me go all out on those bad guys.

Also the games are about a single character going on an arc, not a CYOA character that is flexible. Or creating your own. Their motivations are written in stone...

Just don't come and tell me TLoU revolutionized anything.

I never said open world or more crafting.

I said it needs to stop being a deeply emotional movie broken up by severely disconnected gameplay arenas that offer little in the way of interaction other than shooting faceless goons.

More ways to interact with the narrative ,more ways to be cohesive.

Another game that it did it better, that isn't an RPG : Silent Hill 2.

I feel like you are missing the forest for the trees. The gameplay of the last of us almost perfectly reflects and serves the world and narrative it is building. Stats, open world and things of that sort would completely muddy what it is that the last of us is trying to achieve.

Please no. The Last of Us is my favorite game of all time and turning it into an RPG would not add anything to the characters. The 1st game already had an amazing story and gameplay, I think making it a RPG would detract from it and make it something it's not.

That doesn't really suit the style of the game.

TLoU is a linear character driven game with a story arc that its creators want to have you experience in a particular way.

Save the RPG elements for a new IP.

While we're at it, let's give TLoU2 character creation so that you can guide your own monstrous creation in a post apocalyptic open world where your dialogue choices ultimately lead up to a "paragon" or "renegade" style ending.

Also there is a massive underwater level which is also an escort mission. GOTY material right there.

Yeah, no. They just need to open up each area more, refine the combat, refine the ai, etc. Shit, they don't even need to open up the areas more because they were good enough in the first one.

I do agree with the less killing though. More games, and not just TLoU Part Two, need to tone down the killing and give us more options to proceed through an area without killing things. On second thought, maybe they need to get more vicious with the kills and allow us to kill everything.

If that happens I'm personally blaming you op and will make it my life's work to reply to every single one of your future posts just to disagree with everything you say in a snyde way

We have enough of those games. Games can be different and the thier own thing. I like tlou just the way it is.

Honestly they could just double down on refining and deepening the gameplay of the first one and I would be really satisfied. As long as it's narratively daring to justify making a sequel that could really be enough.

Please no. The Last of Us' brutal and bloody combat was really fun to play. I would like them to double down into making a even more visceral and brutal combat. I wanna see more body parts fly off.

For open world RPG fans there's always Days Gone.

I did NOT say Open world.

NOT once!!!

Never said Ubi towers! Never said more crafting and collectibles!!

Don't assume things when you didn't read.

I'm good. Last of Us had extremely visceral shooting mechanics with weight and consequences, and their stealth complimented that quite well. The game was supposed to be about surviving against terrible odds, and if you played on the hardest difficulties between the original release and the remaster you know it highlights the games themes quite well.

Unlike Uncharted, the gameplay is actually good in Last of Us (I went there). I don't actually care if they add RPG elements, but the focus should remain the same. They nailed it.

Its nice to want things.

There's no point demanding existing IP/games change to suit your specific tastes. Every game isnt going to cater to you specifically just find the games that do and be happy that they exist. For what its worth I think TLOU is awful as it doesnt appeal to my interests at all. But you don't see me yelling about it and demanding ND change it to suit me. It has its audience and they are happy with it so let them have that.

My only issue with the first Last of Us was how artificial the level design and scenarios could feel. There are only so many times I can do this:

The game achieves perfection when it comes to blending gameplay with narrative but there's certainly some moments of poor pacing, repetitive mechanics and questionable level design.

Being an RPG won't fix that, I have faith The Last of Us Part 2 will address my complaints with the first game.

The plot of TLOU2 seems to be revenge killing so I don't see how less killing would work.

Come on OP that makes no sense. It would obliterate the flow of the game and it isn't told via 'quests', it's a relatively straight-forward narrative adventure. I'd like to see ND expand the mechanics a bit, for sure, but otherwise I think it's perfectly operable. Afaik, AI seems smarter on higher difficulties, too.

How is the gameplay severely disconnected from the tone and story? Brutal murdering people is the way these interactions would go.
