Am I blind or did Criterion never announce new DLC last friday (Jan 16). It says on there website that they were going to announce new stuff and to check the main page for the news, but I am not seeing anything new.

I've been watching the site, and it doesn't look like they've announced it.

IGN also posted an article today about Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box coming out only for PC (not for PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360) in the US. I noticed this little nugget of text at the end of the first paragraph:

IGN said:
That same day, the Party Pack will be released, for free, on Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Store.

(I added bold text for emphasis.)

Is this true? I had expected the Party Pack to be paid content. Criterion's "coming soon" page describes this as a "premium downloadable pack", and my interpretation of "premium" is that only users who specifically pay for this content would get it.

Did they change their minds and make this pack a freebie, as they did earlier with the Bikes Pack?

I swear I recently saw 52 achievements listed for this game in my dashboard, but now there are only 50. I'm at 47 right now and would like to cop a few more.

Anybody know why my game doesn't make the two newest achievements available to me? Did I miss a crucial update or something?

edit: Oh, wait. I bet the other two are only available with a paid download, right?

Well, they are showing on profiles on Xbox.com:
Perfect Party Game
Complete a Party game where every player scores in every round

Massive Party Game
Complete a Party game of 8 rounds with 8 players
They should still show even if you don't have the DLC. They appear through a title update, which is probably not happening until the DLC is up. Xbox.com normally shows stuff first.

The extra trophies for the party pack have been added to the XMB for the PS3 version of the game for a while now. Kinda odd considering the party pack is still not out.

What's strange is that these two achievements are matched by 7 trophies...

Every player succeeds in a Party Round (Bronze)
Awarded when every player successfully completes a Party Round.

Complete your 1st Party Round (Bronze)
Awarded when you complete the 1st Round of your 1st Party.

Every player take a photo for a Party (Bronze)
Awarded when every player in a Party takes a photo of themselves. Requires a USB camera to be connected.

Every player succeeds in every Party Game (Silver)
Awarded upon completing a Party in which every player successfully completes every Game of every Round.

Complete a Small Party (Silver)
Awarded when 2-4 players have completed a Party.

Complete a Big Party (Silver)
Awarded when 5-7 players have completed a Party.

Complete a Massive Party (Silver)
Awarded when 8 players have completed an 8 Round Party.

MS has shown that you can make exceptions:
Orange Box (99 achievements)
Halo 3 (1750 total)

What a shit requirement.

yes, got my platinum yesterday thanks to a friend that lent me his 360 cam (no, not the guy that runs porn on it). Anyway it was easier than Wipeout HD Zico trophy.

Wow, lots of additional trophies. Hopefully the Big Surf area will add some as well.

Any idea of when they'll announce the Premium pack? I guess it will include all the DLC packs, because otherwise I don't really want to buy everything separately.

we didn't know there was going to be a toy bike until now, right? because I just checked the original picture and it's lacking a bike in it.

As have we, but the toy bike was nowhere to be seen... and the name of the pack is Toy Cars!

I'm confident it will have some new trophies.

About the Premium pack, the Coming Soon page has been changed to this:
Burnout Paradise Premium Pack TBA
This pack will be announced very soon. Keep checking www.criteriongames.com for all the latest info. You can expect this pack in 2009.

You can actually see them by "comparing trophies" with someone else. Its right there.

I was surprised when I checked trophies yesterday (cause with the party pack my trophies percentage should only drop to 90%, so it got my attention when i saw 81% on there)

they would suck so much for getting something like this wrong, and leaving it up all week too.
Let's put it this way: should we believe IGN or the game's developper?

:lol Holy shit, this now brings the tally up to 80 trophies for Burnout Paradise. They will never stop adding them. I hope the Island gets some trophies added for it too.

I can't wait for these cars to come out, I mean 3 fucking boost types in 1 car?! Really?!

So awesome.

I booted this game up for the first time in 5-6 months last night.

After the 300+ meg patch installed (took foreverrrrr) I got back into the game.
So much has changed it's fricking overwhelming!! Not just bikes, but weather, new challenges, etc. It's crazy shit.

Do you have to buy the Delorian with real money or do you eventually get it?

February 6 update details!

Everything you need to know about our FREE 6th Feb update
Fri, 23 Jan 2009 14:19:52 GMT

Here are the full details of the FREE pack we're releasing on 6th Feb. Look out for this week's Crash TV. The team are on hand to talk through all these changes.

The release of this free pack co-incides with the release of our first paid-for pack (Burnout Paradise Party Pack), which will also be available on the 5th from our sparkling new in-game store.

But, if you’re not ready to splash the cash just yet, here’s the definitive list of everything that’s just been added to the game for FREE.

We can’t resist improving Burnout Paradise.

In-Game Store

The first change you'll notice (if you're on Playstation 3 or PC) is that we're now using in-game browser to bring something we're calling the Criterion Games Network. More on this next week!

3220396684_0a6c338ab9.jpg

The next major addition is our in-game store. You'll be able to easily buy new content, like the Party Pack, without leaving the comfort of Burnout Paradise. Just head for either the Main Menu or the Easydrive Menu. We'll add the Legendary Cars, Boost Specials, Toy Cars, Island and more (!), as they become available.

Vehicle dynamics

The vehicle handling has undergone it's most substantial overhaul since Burnout Paradise was first released. We’ve tweaked the handling on the first available cars, like the Hunter Cavalry, to make the game easier and more accessible.

3219546043_b0627d0524.jpg

Hunter Cavalry

These cars are now slower, harder to crash and less likely to spin out at low speeds. This’ll help any newcomers get into the game, but it also delivers greater variety between the early cars to the faster, more challenging later ones.

Burnout Paradise – easy to play but hard to master!

We’ve changed the way we display the performance of the cars in the junkyard. You can now easily compare cars and see that with the rebalanced handling, they’re more varied across the whole range. Again, we’re aiming for a more fun and accessible experience. And on the subject of the junkyard, you can now filter what you see there. Pick between cars or bikes and when our Legendary Cars, Toy Cars and Boost Specials arrive in the near future they’ll also be easier to pick out.

3219546111_d8921ab123.jpg

Junkyard Stats Display

Stunt Run

Fans of Stunt Run will now appreciate that the countdown timer now starts to count down more slowly. If you’ve never played before, it’ll be easier to pick up. For experts, it’ll counts down faster depending on how many multipliers you’ve earned.

3219546327_2ed72ccd85.jpg

It’s just one of a stack of minor changes designed to rebalance and tweak the game for your enjoyment.

Events Rebalanced

3220397196_225abd2e2f.jpg

Burnout Paradise Events

We’ve modified the difficulty of all events. The speeds of the rival cars and Burning Route times have been changed to accommodate new car speeds.

Road Rage

We’ve changed the way the timer works in Road Rage– you no longer get time added when you’ve hit the target number of cars. This means the game has a clearer end point and restricts crazy scores to later Road Rages, making it more challenging for experts – see if you can reach 100+ now! It’s been streamlined.

3220415482_2a373eaeb4.jpg

Visuals

Paradise City is filled with a whole world of objects waiting to be discovered. We wanted to make it a little easier to spot them, so we’ve modified the colours of the Billboards (red) and Smashes (yellow) and Super Jumps (blue). They also now pulse for added visibility.

3219546529_469f72607b.jpg

We’ve also overhauled the lighting to bring you more vibrant visuals. We wanted to make it easier to see at night and give everything a more vibrant feel with brighter, more saturated Burnout color.

Restart

You ask – we deliver. Restart is in! You can now quit or fail an event and choose to restart it.

3220397074_a3d29fc31a.jpg

You’ll be transferred to the start location ready for action. We’ve always enjoyed the feeling of freedom that Paradise City’s open world delivers, but we appreciate that as you run low on events towards the end of the game, you can spend a little too long in transit.

Barrel Rolls

And last but not least, we’ve transformed the way barrel rolls work in Burnout Paradise. Hit a split-ramp and barrel rolls now automatically right themselves. It means new players can pull off flash moves immediately, but nothing changes for all you experts out there. You can still risk multiple rolls by pushing the right stick in the direction of the roll.

3219546225_00c08c744e.jpg

That's all folks!

To get this FREE update, just play take Burnout Paradise online anytime on or after 6th February.

This update does not include the Party Pack, which is our first ever paid-for content - a premium pack that turns Burnout Paradise into a fun party game for when you've got your friends round and you all want to play on the same TV. Party will also be available on 5th February.

Click through for more details on Party and Ultimate.

^ That is incredible, free again? I know it was mentioned previously, but I didn't believe it. Thank you Criterion.

So now the free update hits after the Party Pack? I thought that was the other way around... Anyway, I didn't think the game was that hard to begin with, and I'm no hardcore gamer, but we might as well go with the flow! At least it'll bring change to a game we know inside and out. Will it be for the better? That remains to be seen.

god that update sounds awesome. I need to find a way to buy this game again for cheap.

It's $20 on Amazon for both versions and the PSN version should have it's price adjusted down to $20 as well soon...

Great game, now give me the Island already...

All the new tweaks are awesome but I've a question about the party pack:
is it just the online challenges over again but with passing a pad around? or are they new? also, I really hope you don't have to drive out to each challenge....

Amazon isn't shipping for up to 3 weeks and all the Best Buys near me are sold out. Should Walmart/Target have adjusted the price as well?

It seems like most of the tweaks have been made to make the game easier. Not sure if that affects how I feel about the game.
sounded like they've just been done to make it more accessible. it makes the lower end stuff easier, but doesn't change the higher end stuff.

There are 3 types of challenge to take on - Stunt, Speed and Skill. Stunt involves jumps and tricks. Speed features quick time trials and timed challenges. Skill includes racing through oncoming traffic and drifting your car. We don't know about the driving part, but I'd guess no.

I'm pretty sure it's a universal price drop so it should be $20 at pretty much all retailers.
