The Official NeoGAF Groundbreaking Electronic Music Thread™

this is so awful, I hadnt met any of the people personally but a lot of them were in my extended network of music friends. A lot of bay area friends are grieving, its so sad. I was just chatting with Cherushii a few weeks ago to do a mix for us, its insane.

It's awful.

I'm up in Seattle on business and thought it would be a bit of a respite, but CNN is up in every cafe and won't stop talking about it. The armchair analysis is enough to make me throw a chair through the TV.

Our party on Saturday was really beautiful and full of a whole lot of love and this has kicked off very serious discussions amongst crews on common standards for safety (ie. if this isn't the case then we will not be DJ'ing or doing visuals for your event). But hearing people who know fucking nothing about my community talk about this is a bit much to bare.

Memorial page for Cherushii who was a wonderful person from the few times I hung out with her and great DJ. She had just thrown a bday party for one of my best friends a month ago.

Here is a live PA set she performed at another friend's weekly night last year.

Well this thread has been on a downswing, but I'd love to hear some end of year lists. I'm trying to figure mine out but I'm too busy finishing up my new visuals engine for an event.

Last bit of being a downer, I promise. I beg everyone out there in other cities to avoid venues that haven't passed code, but when you must use one (which is often the reality) get glow tape for firelanes (30 feet or more wide ideally), bring some fire extinguishers and cover them in elwire so they are easy to find, and put up battery powered exit signs. Safety and the venue crunch are the actual things we're talking about here as we try to ignore the tragedy porn the national media has created of our intersecting communities.

Oh and Nina Kraviz' fabric mix is excellent btw. I'm a bit late on penning it but it is as fine a techno mix you could ever wish for. Broad range and plenty of curveballs. Added clarification - I often find that huge tracklisting mixes are not actually that good (Scuba, Voorn) but this is compelling and outstanding through and through.

Waiting for my copy of the Prince Of Denmark - 8 album... Started getting afraid of wasting so much money on an album I won't like, but then I noticed there are clips of all tracks over on Youtube/Discogs, so checked them out.

The album jumped straight to the top parts of my AOTY list, GODDAMN.

I might have to check it out properly. I didn't want to put EUR100 out on something that had no clips, especially as I find TP/PoD/Metatron stuff a bit patchy and wasn't a big fan of The Body whatsoever.

I got my Mind Over Matter through yesterday. Which was nice but the key stamps on the front were a bit shit and the thing looks a bit battered. Don't think I'm grabbing anything directly from the Giegling shop again, feel that they are just not geared to fulfil it.

Avoid the album if you're not a fan of The Body, it's essentially an extension of it.

But hell, the clips are free so go for it.

Reading impressions from folks who have received theirs, it's looking like there are multiple versions of a few tracks, so not everyone will get the exact same album. Kind of neat, but I can definitely see this as infuriating for completists.

Man, to try and make my best of list for this year is going to be so tough, but I can say DJ SOCH's "Unknown" is probably my track of the year, followed closely by "Popular House Music" and Cody Curie's Asteroid Belt

That Prince of Denmark album turned out so much better than I ever expected, too. It's all the good things from The Body with almost no filler. Absolutely killer album.

Decided to do a final snap up. Grabbed that Mei Tahat on Berceuse along with Don't DJ Gamelan & the forthcoming Interstellar Funk with Convextion remix.

Snapped up Dan White's Death Flutes on Forbidden Planet & a Lowtec Workshop Special Editions that I found in the sale.

Wish I'd grabbed AFX Cheetah thinking of it. I expect that to be prevalent enough on 12" to get further down the line.

RA's best tracks list is up and I feel like the only person who doesn't like The Frontier by Avalon Emerson. Like really dislike it, but everyone else thinks it's brilliant. oh well

I missed out on some things last year.

SW. - album on SUED. Never heard of SUED and this passed me by. Record shop of choice notes a restock this month, so a chance to catch up.

DJ Seinfeld - Season 1. I also really liked this but didn't get round to purchasing. Again I note an in stock for this month.

His other version and the Pachanga Boys remixes are also both excellent, what a great release
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Li5CQ20n2_s

yep, the techier Night Version gives me Maceo Plex vibes but the Pachanga Boys is rather impossibly too repetitive for my tastes, after about 8 minutes I was ready to give up

the Morning Version is by far my favourite, takes me back 10 years to the heyday of Telefon Tel Aviv and Apparat

The Pachanga Boys one is mellow and nice to get into a groove with, can imagine one of the last songs of a night at like 5 in the morning or something

Ostgut Ton has reached their 100th release, and what better way than to have Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann collaborate on a double EP?

Dettmann & Klock - Phantom Studies

I've found their stuff quite lacking for well over a year, so I'm glad this is the best stuff they've done in a long time.

Call Super mixes the next Fabric mix. Listening this afternoon and will report back!

Tunes from Beatrice Dillon, Photek, Carl Craig and Yves Tumor feature in JR Seaton's selection.

Call Super is behind the 92nd fabric mix, which will see release on February 17th.

The DJ and producer, real name JR Seaton, says he crafted fabric 92 with the final few hours of a club night in mind. "I love playing every hour of the night," he says. "However the late hours seemed strangely under represented within this series, and I thought it would be good to start there instead of using this opportunity to add another peak time chapter to the collection."

He adds: "For the listener, I simply wanted the music to take you out to sea so we could watch the weather together. This isn't about getting beat upside the head, this is us dreaming in the dawn." The 24-track selection traverses a broad range of sounds and styles, with music from Max Loderbauer, Objekt, Shanti Celeste, Don't DJ, Beatrice Dillon, Photek, Convextion, Carl Craig and Yves Tumor.

Watch some footage of Call Super DJing at India's Magnetic Fields festival in December 2016.

Howdy y'all!

Been a minute since I've sat down and made a mix. Very fast and loose mix with a couple of small little whoopsies, but no one's perfect. Every track is a vinyl rip from my collection, with the exception of the opening track and Traumprinz (sorry bout it).

Anywho, enjoy!

DaRand Land - Discover You (Scissor & Thread)
Central - Keep Love On Me (Dekmantel)
Tevo Howard - Popular House Music (Wewillalwaysbealovesong)
Doublet - Currystar (Doublet)
Hiraku Nagasawa - Matrix Track (Les Disques Mystiques)
Baaz - Ubi (Office)
Thomas Wood - Phiction Maker (Foul & Sunk)
Traumprinz - N.Y. Diva Has Been Set On Fire (Kasha's Short Vocal Mix) (Giegling)
Mall Grab - Sun Ra (Church)
Mall Grab - Real (Dawn Mix) (Shall Not Fade)
Central - H Ain't Nothin But A Number (Dekmantel)
Brother's Vibe - Words To A Nation (SOM Underground)
Mall Grab - Twin Peaks (Hokkaido Dance Club)

EDIT: just got around to listening to that Dettmann/Klock split EP and holy shit is "Prophet Man" a fun ass track.

Homework remains one of my fav albums ever though. All their other stuff is not for me.

RAM is easily the weakest in their discography.

I like "Human After All" a lot more than most others, because it's just some really solid techno(?)/French house/whatever genre it is. I bunch it together with SebastiAn's "Total", because both got pretty mediocre reviews but deserved better.
