Yeah, I am never using Paypal again. Previously I tried using credit card but I still could not get it in time... but that time I was not refreshing the site and was just relying on my cell phone twitter alert.
So after you enter the credit card info and press the payment button, that's it? No additional message or screens to go through?

Fuu... I think it was because I had to change my Paypal payment method to credit card and that took up a few extra seconds, fu, so sad.

I really just wanted the variant though, do you guys going for both at once was a mistake? Maybe next time I should only add the variant to my cart. :(

EDIT: Seeing the eBay prices right now, already over $200 for the regular and over $400 for the variant, guess I am SOL for this poster.
The only poster I really wanted ever from Mondo. :(

Not sure about either of those. Can any experienced Mondo-purchases answer them? I'd like to know as well.

Damn, I'm seeing some completed listings for $250-300 on eBay for the regular version. I can't imagine what the variant will go for over the next few days once the baseline price has been established.

If I was smart I'd sell my regular now when the price is high, and buy the variant while the price is still low. Hmm.

I got the Standard Totoro, and I am very excited for it.

As I've become my friends go-to person to help with getting Mondo posters when they release, here are my tips for getting prints.

1. Start your day by logging in. As soon as I get into the office that day, I open a tab for MondoTees.com, log into my (previously created) account, and leave that tab open all day. If you don't already have an account, make one.

2. Keep refreshing - typically (or so I've noticed), the prints go on sale sometime between 10am-12pm EST. F5 randomly as those times go by. This time I got VERY lucky, as I saw the listings like 30 seconds before the tweet showed up in Tweetdeck.

3. Don't use PayPal. Credit card direct. As soon as you submit your payment info, there's a brief loading dialog, and then bam, purchase confirmation.

This won't always work, but it's helped me when I wanted prints. Granted, I'm a standard edition, no variants, buy 1 copy guy. And I don't flip 'em.

Good luck with whatever comes next. I swear, if they do a Director's Series for Chris Nolan, I am SCREWED.

I did everything right except for Paypal. :(

When you checked out was the site lagging at all? It was already lagging just as it was up and before the twitter announcement for me.

No lag here, but like I said, I think I may have just had a lucky break.

I didn't have any lag although there were slight delays between the checkout screen showing up and then the confirmation showing up. Only a few seconds but enough to make my heart skip a beat.

My heart jumped when I saw such an awesome Totoro poster. And again when I saw it was put up for sale just 5 days ago. And sank when I discovered that it had sold out almost instantly.

The Japanese version of that poster is beautiful.

Whoops. Sorry. Cleaned up the OP a bit. added new upcoming posters. Your heart might sink even more to know the Totoro variant sells for $600 on ebay.

Well, no luck again.
I decided to try and get the Gremlins posters for practice this morning. Lagged badly, cannot even get to the checkout screen after adding to cart. I was constantly refreshing and added to my cart as soon as I saw the posters (before I got any cell phone tweet alert, at least 30 seconds ahead). This is impossible.

I fear for my future Laputa poster battle. :/

How come you guys don't seem to experience this lag while checking out? :S

Laputa? Have they announced other Studio Ghibli posters?

What are your internet connection stats? You mentioned before I think you might just have a weak connection, maybe that's it.

Unrelated: what do you guys recommend as far as framing? I want to get something that will protect the Totoro poster I bought. Should I be worried about it getting damaged during shipping?

I'm not as deluded as I make myself out to be
I just discovered Olly Moss today by chance and ended up tracking Mondo posters down via his Star Wars/Totoro stuff.

Man I'm so annoyed that the Totoro stuff is already on eBay for a massive mark up with some dickwads selling multiple copies that they don't even have yet! That such a shitload of fuck honestly.

a) the profits for these posters are going to a charity!
b) why make these so rare just so some assholes can flip them and make loads of profit?

They're just prints, there's no reason for them to be so rare, its not like an artist hand draws them all one by one. Only reason they're so rare is so Mondo can drive up the frenzy factor - which I think is a real shame as the people who lose out there are the fans and in many ways the artists who don't see the sales they might see otherwise.

Olly Moss was saying on twitter how gutted he is that his Totoro's are already on ebay.

I'm pretty sure his Totoro picture would still be massively desirable to people if it wasn't a limited run of 400 or whatever it was. People love this stuff because it's pretty right? Not because it's ridiculously rare? Irritating!

I'm pretty sure that the reason for the low print numbers is that it's the exact reason how and why Mondo and similar companies are able to get the licenses in the first place (that way, they don't compete with official posters/merchandise from the studios). So yeah, the blame isn't to be placed there.

The assholes are those who buy just to flip the posters on eBay. Total dick move, imo.

The next Studio Ghibli poster is Porco Rosso, they announced.

as for framing, you'll want an acid-free backing/mat and make sure the glass you use is UV resistant or else the poster will yellow over time. That's all I know...lol.

Tyler Stout poster for Mondo on Friday. Thursday is Kevin Tong's Snow White, but it's very underwhelming (as is the rest of the series).

as far as flipping goes, I don't mind it at all and even do it on occasion; elsewise, I would never be able to afford a $40 poster. I'm not wealthy enough to normally afford these LE posters. It sucks that I missed out on Totoro as I really wanted it but that's how this game is played. If it's any consolation, there's actually going to be one more chance to buy Totoro anyways...

When/where will Totoro be available again? Variant too or just regular?

Thanks for the framing info.

Early next year. Not sure exactly when. Both versions. Signed artist proofs. Quantities will be very limited though and it will be priced higher than Mondo's price but lower than ebay's. But because they are artist proofs they are valued more highly over Mondo's run. I'll give you a heads up when I get the exact details.

I am not sure if it is my Internet, I am using Shaw cable Internet which is fast enough in my opinion. I usually have no trouble purchasing limited ThreeA figures through all the lag and F5s, but Mondo seems to take it to another level of order promptness. :p

I'm not as deluded as I make myself out to be
Anyone from the UK have experience buying these kind of posters? Either from the sale or from ebay or forums or whatever? Would be good to hear your experiences, what's mondo's shipping like, import tax, ebay sellers sending it in pristine condition and so on?

Also any advice on frames? Seems like an area where a novice could make a mistake that ends up damaging their print? Where to get good deals on print-friendly frames, what kind of frames to avoid and so on. I assume I can't just walk into boots and pick up a bog standard frame?

kaizoku

Well I just splashed out $330 on the Totoro poster. The ebay deals seem to reach that figure at the moment so there's a good chance the value will stay that high or get higher right?

Tips on frames??

$330 shipped to UK?

You really ought to try expressobeans before ebay though. http://www.expressobeans.com/members/detail.php/144345/trades

With that said, these things have not shipped yet. Usually the price for them drops after they ship and the items are on-hand, as more hit ebay.

Yeh shipped to UK, will probably get hit with tax as well! Took the hit as I saw an auction sell for similar price so hit the only one left with a buy it now.

The way I justified it to myself was that all the ones from the archive that took my fancy seem to be unattainable or massively more expensive. I didn't want to wait til it got to the point where this became hard to find as I'm not a fan of the hunt!

Anyone here manage to get the Totoro APs?

I was not quick enough again, this was much less laggy than Mondo but super super quick sellout. At least I managed to log into Paypal and click Pay and then get the sold out message this time. :p

I was only aiming for the Variant as I only want the green version with the Japanese title. Well, I will pay a hefty price for this piece someday when I become rich. :p

In the meantime, I pray I can get a Porco Rosso and Laputa as those are my other favourite Ghibli films.

I missed cause the tweet never loaded. Grr. My lil sis got a regular though but there are huge oversells. Really want this piece. Hope we got it!

Twitter is really messed up for me these past few days. It constantly shows user does not exist sometimes... for every user. I had the problem literally 2 minute before the tweet this morning and had to switch to Firefox (was on Chrome) before it was fixed.

I think it might have something to do with me being logged in and refreshing too often, otherwise I am not sure why it won't load.

I hope you guys got one. :)
