Yeah, I'm on the same wagon... :(. Well, I guess the game isn't going to run anywhere, so I'll play it in 2010 or something.

Supposedly the specs are overblown from what I heard on polish forums.

Great game. Bad thing is loading times. Good thing is everything else more or less =)

Great quests so far. I am at chapter 3 I think. Great immersion in the world. I bow to the polish devs. Great job.

This is a modern classic in my book and an actually long game instead of all these "its 10-15 hours" crap. Loads of content in this game. I have had to make some tough choices in the game aswell so it's looking good on replay viability.

The whole censorship thing is just stupid. Their is hardly any nekkidness in the game.
a naked card is shown during sex and I have seen a green naked dryad in the woods. Lock the door the boobies are coming to get you! bah

Combat looks awsome when you have leveled up some! Great looking combos. Playing on normal and combat is not always easy. Died loads of times. (much of my complaints about loading times come from that. Loading times for new areas and such are much better)

Playing it at max on my new rig and it looks awsome.

Anyway my two cents on the matter.

Does it have an auto-detect for the graphical settings? Because it set all mine to max and actually set the right res (1920X1200), which no game does.

Yea, it auto-detects slapped everything to max for me when I played. From some reviews I've read min specs, means min playable, and not the game will run but not well. Also check out this review for a laugh: http://www.gamedaily.com/games/the-witcher/pc/game-reviews/review/3106/1830/?page=1

Edit: Funnily enough the review makes no mention of choices that seem to have no effect on the story at the time, and then hours later it comes back to bite you in the ass.

Chapter 1-2 Spoilers
I gave those Elves some equipment when clearing the area of Drowners, thought nothing of it, in chapter 2 and some dude I need to find for info was assasinated by them using the equipment I had let the take. He was also used for another quest I'm stuck on.

Review seems like the guy played the first chapter and then decided to review it. Game is pretty punishing aswell, use the wrong style and you get smacked down pretty hard.

It set everything to max on my system aswell as the correct resolution on the screen. It would seem so. I am not at home so I can check though.

Wow, that Gamedaily review was just horrible. It was pretty obvious that the reviewer didn't play further than chapter 1.

Yeah, this game is fun as hell. Played for a little over an hour last night and I really like the mechanic and the overall simplicity--not too simple, but perfect for hack-and-slash fun. Also one of the best tutorials I've played in a while in the way it's integrated into the story and also covers all the basics well. I'm really glad I changed my mind back and decided to get it.

Only weird problem I'm having is that the game runs smoothly on high settings but for some reason the cutscenes run like crap. Running a 7950GTX 2.33 Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM so I'm not really sure where the problem is coming from, maybe I have to screw with my drivers.

I think the cutscenes just run like crap in general. I've got an 8800GS /w 600whatever megs of RAM, 4 3.0Ghz cores, and 4 gigs of RAM and the cut scenes are still choppy at parts.

Overall, keen game. I am really enjoying it. If it lives up to the potential displayed in the first chapter, it could be the best PC RPG in a long ass time.

Yep, cutscenes just run like crap regardless (8800GTX, Q6600 here). The game gets even better in Chapter 2 and 3.

Ah, thanks. I was going nuts screwing with settings trying to get everything running smoothly, but I suppose it's just the game itself for now.

Little of the way through Chapter 1 and continuing to enjoy it--like every good ARPG it's one of those games that you can play for a little while, leave, and then soon after just want to jump right back into. Great thing that it's a long title. Would make for a great console game as well.

Just a heads-up that a lot of users are reporting that if you turn off depth-of-field in the advanced options, the cutscenes perform much better.

I played to the area after the beginning fortress, very nice game so far. It's freaking gorgeous with everything turned up, I'm really loving the world and atmostphere. Load times are a nightmare though. Hopefully they can update to cut them down a little.

Played some more and man this game is fucking great. I was sort of anticipating it when I read about it here of all places back in June or something, but this is so over delivering on what I was expecting.

Sleeper hit of the season.

I just ordered mine for £23. The UK version wont be censored right? How will it run on my rig? Q6600 quad proc, 2gb ram, 256mb ATI 2600 HD XT card. Win XP.

Oddly enough, this game runs fairly decently on my old as hell PC (P4 3ghz, 1.5gb RAM, ATI x800xt video card). The game defaulted to everything cranked, which didn't work so well, but turning AF down to x6 and shadows/grass to "low", resulted in "ok" framerates.

Awesome game.

Some of the issues with the loading is it autosaves right after, and in some cases this is essentially doubling the wait. From what I've been hearing CDProjekt are including an option in the next patch to disable auto-save.

Also try downing loads of potions and watch all the crazy effects stack and play around with each other :p http://ikuu.net/images/screens/thewitcher05.jpg

This game is fantastic. Loading times can be annoying (but most people are exagerrating), but the forthcoming patch will make autosaving optional, and turning down the texture quality reduces the loading times, too.

Geralt is a pimp, and I'm seducing chicks left and right, visible nipples et al.

I have to say though, I've seen the differences in the US and Euro version of the game, and it's not a big deal. I guess it's the principle of the censorship that most people are against, though.

Exactly. Also, there's no way this game would get an "A" rating from showing nipples (*points at Conan*).

Never thought this game to be as good as it is :D

Played for a while now, Act 5, and the story just keeps getting better and better. To have a bad-ass mature hero thats actually smart and that the mature elements really come from the story and not from the things that the usual folks get upset over(nipples^^) is refreshing.

Witcher is one of the best crpgs to come out in a long time.

Only complaints is that the combat system gets boring after a while, the slow-action rpg style doesn't take the best parts from turnbased and action but often it feels like they should have decided to just go either tb or actionbased.

Loading isn't so bad actually but the option to disable autosave will be nice for the second playthrough, loads of important decisions to be made so you could at least play it 2-3 times and have lots of things to be diffrent.

Act 4 is a little weak compared to the other ones but it's still way above average and has some nice themes for us Lovecraft fans :D

Go out and buy it ppl, we're gonna need a follow up to this one.

Holy crap at this game

I was not expecting this level of detail and polish

Between this and MOTB, I'm suddenly a very happy rpg fan who was seriously starved

It really does look amazing, but I am wondering if the story holds up? I heard that the books offered some of the best fantasy writing of all time, so I had high hopes for this games story...

The dialogues and word for word writing might not be the best ever (although definitely not worst, hot tip: check out Two Worlds for absolute worst), but the overall stories for each act -- pretty fucking awesome.

I think that the witting is very solid, so is the voice acting. The nature of the game and the sheer amount of dialog + the fact that it has to fit into conversation trees means there is some (very little) stuff that isn't quite up to par but then again there are some times where the writing and the acting are so fucking great that it really nulls the wonky-ness that you sometimes run across.

The game is tremendously engrossing.

Halt, why do you speak poorly of the writing in Two Worlds? Forsooth it is a masterpiece, you cur.

They have a little present icon next to your dialogue choices when you speak to them, click it, and then drag the item over.

I'm on some escort mission (playing on hard) and I want to give the person food to heal themselves but I can't get into dialogue mode so I guess there's no way to help them out, eh?

I'm playing a bit through the game and loving it so far. two problems though.
When it's dark in the game:
1. it runs a bit crappier
2. I can't see shit.
so I need a torch. I have no idea where to get one.
first RPG I actually liked ever, anyway.

Ah! Now here's something to make up for Hellgate London! Thank god it's available for download, Gamestop is about to close up :D

The Alchemy system sounds promising, and I like how they have 2 sets of controls.I thought it was just point & click(ugh) a couple of months ago..

Is this game available in the uncensored EU version for download purchase somewhere? I'd like to recommend it to a few friends

You can find torches.. around, in barrels and inside houses. Can also use the cat potion to see in the dark.

They censored nipples and boobies on art cards
They also censored nudity in regards to NPCs in the game. A forest dryad, for example, has hair covering her nipples and a loincloth on in the US version, whereas she's fully frontally nude in the Euro version.

So I installed the game...but it tells me I don't meet minimum requirements which is a lie :lol

Is there a way to get around the hardware check or something for this game?

Wow, if it's as good as you guys are saying I might pick it up. I didn't even know it existed until I saw it at walmart today. So they only edited out nudity in the na release?

I really get a Baldurs Gate feel by playing the game. The devs also said that BG was a huge inspiration (and BioWare said that The Witcher is really worth it).

I'm now in Chapter III. Incredible game. By far the best RPG on the PC this year and in my opinion the best RPG in years. The combat is nice (easy to handle, and deep enough), items and potions (it's The Witcher after all) adds a lot to the whole gameplay (I use especially Swallow very often). The signs are also great; it's not just fun. You really need them in some situations.

Also very nice are the decisions you have to make and sides you have to take. In Chapter III there is one big choice and it's not obvious which is the good and which is the bad one. There is a strong grey area in the game (characters, choices). A real unique game. The combat, the choices, the atmosphere. Brilliant.
