Toronto-Age |OT3| Going Off the Rails on a Gravy Train

Fellow Torontonians -- I've made the decision to move. Massive spring-fall-winter cleaning in progress and I'm definitely in need of finally off-loading some of the nerdier acquisitions/collections/items/games/etc that I've acquired over the years, in order to support my new living expenses.

I'd really rather sell to those in town and avoid the hassles of shipping costs and delays and so on. I'd trust most gaffers to just meet in town to hand things off. I'd really, really like to sell bunches of items together -- that'd also be the case where I'd be more than happy to make deals and shit. Happy to chat and negotiate about shit. I'm really looking to offload stuff and well, there ain't too much time to hold off/maximize profit, etc. It'd make me happy to know they're going to homes of fellow nerds who'd dig the stuff too.

Here's everything -- do PM me if you have interest and are in town. We'll figure something out. The prices I've written are just my ballpark impression of what stuff's worth. I can TTC to almost anywhere on the Yonge line and within reason on the Bloor line. Got a car some days too to meet at other spots.

Everything's in great-to-very great/mint shape, depending on the item, with rare exception as noted. Happy to take photos of whatever if anyone wants a better look at something, even just for curiosity's sake.

Consoles:
• Wii U Deluxe system - turned on all of twice. Nintendo Land still sealed. NSBMU included. $350 for the lot? Can split em up too.

Wii Games
• Mad World ($5)
• Metroid: Other M, sealed ($5)
• Muramasa ($20)

360 Games/HW
• A Kinect, barely used, with box and everything ($60 - maybe like, $80 with the games?)
• Kinect Adventures ($5)
• Child of Eden ($10)
• Dance Central ($15)

Misc. Games:
• The Diablo III CE box/artbook/all contents, including the soulstone USB key, soundtrack, and all, except for the actual D3 game. ($40)

Blurays - would really like to sell some of these in groups instead of alone, but we'll see, lol.
• Life (the David Attenborough one) - $30
And a bunch of singles, all $5-10 each?
• Enchanted
• Cloverfield
• 300
• Closer
• Casino Royale (this was a Blockbuster liquidation acquisition, but it's in fine shape)
• Blade Runner - 5-disc/final cut/all that jazz
• American Psycho
• Starship Troopers (sealed)
• Sin City
• A Scanner Darkly (sealed)
• Juno
• Gladiator (sealed, yellow UPC label, so it's the better transfer)
• Gattaca
• The Fountain (sealed)
• Resident Evil: Degeneration
• FFVII: Advent Children Complete
• Fantastic 4

Disney blurays -- most I've never even used -- total impulse buys, and are the 2D bluray/dvd combo packs unless otherwise noted:
• Snow White & the Seven Dwarves ($30)
• Sleeping Beauty ($30)
• The Princess & the Frog ($10 - bluray only)
• Pixar Shorts Collection Vol 1 ($10 - bluray only)
• Bambi ($20)
• Alice in Wonderland (Burton) ($10 - bluray only)
• Alice in Wonderland (animated) ($20)

DVDs/Sets
• Disney's The Little Mermaid - Platinum Edition ($20)
• Original Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum Set with box housing: http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:...YeG-mQ1VPBvf-RH-J-qypL2ITRs4alZYnM638gjUPmPMg is the best picture I can find. It was the first release of the Platinum set before the super thin casing edition was released. ($60)
• Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death ($10)
• Neon Genesis Evangelion: Rebirth ($10)
• Cowboy Bebop: The Movie ($10)
• Sliders - Seasons 1/2 ($10)
• Boomtown - Season 1 ($10)
• Community - Season 1 ($15)
• 24 - Season 1 ($10)
• The Rules of Attraction, Run Lola Run, Pulp Fiction ($5 each?)
• Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season 1 ($7)
• The Wire - Season 1 ($15)

Portable Games/HW
• Pokémon Platinum ($20)
• Pokémon Heart Gold ($20)
• Pokémon Soul Silver ($20)
• Pokémon Black ($20)
• Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - original, not the Best Of garbage cover ($15)
• Chrono Trigger - DS obvz, ($20)
• FFTactics: War of the Lions (UMD) - ($10)
• Refurb DSi, Black - Gamestop, with charger, works just fine ($40)
• PSP Go, 16gb, Black, with box/everything, and one of the nicer slim/hug cases ($70)
• Refurb PSP-2000 - Gamestop, with charger, works just fine, with the original sweet official Sony 'sock' PSP case, and I'll throw in the Magic Memory card + Pandora battery ($60)
• Nintendo 3DS - black, not the XL, barely used, with box and charger and everything, including the AR cards/etc. I'll throw in RE: Mercenaries 3D, which I barely played and unlocked anything in, and the Kid Icarus box/stand which I strangely still have (not the game itself though). ($120)

Rare Standees:
• The original Final Fantasy VIII standee that was in retail stores. It's a little banged up, particularly the spokes that make up Edea's outfit, but it still looks great. The bottom has some mild damage that was present when I initially acquired it from a Compucentre (lol) that was about to throw it away.
• The original Final Fantasy XII standee that was in stores. In much better shape than the VIII standee.

Comics (all singles are bagged and in great shape):
• The full run of Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 1 (with issues 1-13 in trade form, the rest as singles), including a bunch of miscellaneous stuff, like issue #33 signed by Bagley at FanExpo Toronto a few years ago, and the Super Special, and most of the run of Ultimate Team-Up. Happy to receive offers and chats about all this. I need to do my own research on exactly what it's all worth.
• Full runs of New X-Men and Uncanny X-Men from like, the year 2000 to 2010, minus an issue here or there. If anyone's interested, I'll actually go write down the issue numbers, etc. so we can chat about it.
• Nearly full run of Ultimate X-Men from #1 to like, #90-whatever, all singles, including #1.
• Several smaller runs, all singles, bagged, etc. including Civil War, Civil War: Frontline, The New Avengers (#1-30-something), Heroic Age Avengers.

Cards:
• A small box of Magic: The Gathering Cards -- nothing extraordinarily rare. 4th Edition, Mirage, Visions, Weatherlight, Tempest, Stronghold, Chronicles, Ice Age and Homelands stuff.
• A small box of Overpower Cards -- remember that game?! -- with a healthy mix of all sorts of stuff from almost all sets, including IQ heroes.

I realize I should probably take all that shit to a comic/cards store or something, but if someone happens to want this, we'd all save money by cutting out the middle man. Happy to chat about what all this might be worth.

I'm 100% sure I want to sell everything, but ideally, in bunches to save time, which I don't have much of.

Alternatively, if people have suggestions for the best places to sell all of this wonderful crap in the city, I'd be grateful to hear them! Thanks.

Definitely running all of this by IRL friends, so stuff may disappear too. I'll try to remember to come back to this post and cross them out if I sell shit.

I vote on the burger poll when I try 5 guys this thursday.

But you guys forgot to add...

- Hero Burger
- South St. Burger Co
- The Works
- Square Boys

South St. is my favourite right now. Hero burger is also favourable. The Works is pricey, but have a ridiculous selection. )Click here for menu), and while Square Boys isn't anything special, you can't beat it's pricing. (about $5.00 for burger fries and pop.)

Funny that you're selling your stuff, Magnus, because I'm doing the same thing right now. Haha.

Giving my co-workers a shot at it first, and I may put it up here for any leftovers.

It makes the most sense for tourists too. 1 card and can get anywhere on public transit.

Ah man I liked the Metropass.

Anyways from that article it seems like it could be years away.

It's great that they adjusted the system to accommodate the Toronto fair structure rather than the other way around.

What will they do with the weekend day pass though? That thing rocked.

Metropass would still work - you could theoretically just 'load' a metropass on your card. If you wanted you could have it come out of your account automatically every month. You could also technically just have it on your phone, and use NFC.

Hopefully they have it by next year, but it'll probably be rolled out beginning 2014.

Does this mean I would pay only once when going from Mississauga to Woodbridge (paying double right now, once on Miway and the other on TTC)?

How does Presto work? Can you do something like put $20 on it or whatever amount? Or do you have to buy monthly/weekly passes?
I'm asking because I don't ride the TTC enough to make a Metropass worthwhile right now so I buy tokens which are cheaper than the cash fare. The article says there won't be tokens anymore so I'm curious if there will be an advantage to me using the Presto card vs cash fare.

You still pay for different systems

It's a refillable card (valid for 5 years). So instead of having to have cash on hand or whatever... You can add funds via credit card or bank account

The one negative is the wait time for funds which is up to a day, so you just need to make sure there's enough in there.

I'm very excited about Presto, and the TTC finally entering the 21st century. No more '50s-era fare payment!

One of my biggest beefs with the TTC is having to walk around a neighbourhood to find a bank machine before I could walk back to the station and buy tokens.

I've been using Presto on the GO Train, and various other transit systems in the GTA, and it's amazing how well it integrates.

I can currently go between Mississauga and Brampton transit just fine by paying once, I assumed TTC would enter this as well after going under Presto. Guess not.

Same with Oakville and Mississauga. You can transfer between systems, for free, at certain hubs. Plus, the card remembers your 2-hour transfer window so you can hop on and off on whatever routes as much as you need. (This would be the best feature if they implemented it on the TTC.)

In theory they could do away with fare discounts and everything would become cash fare. That would raise their revenues by a massive amount. Or they could give you a discount when you load your card with a specific amount (like buying tokens in sets of 3/5/7 now).

What I hope.. although it won't happen, is they implement a pay by distance system with it so you swipe when you board and swipe when you get out of the system. It makes the most sense to cover cost. If you travel from Kipling to Kennedy you should pay more than someone travelling from St George to Union. Of course this won't happen, because TTC would have to heavily invest into its development to integrate with PRESTO.

The best part of PRESTO is what lunar listed, for those that travel on multiple systems. An system single fare payment method for all the GTA transit systems. Of course, a refillable card for those that just travel on the TTC is a massive improvement and all streetcar routes dramatically improve being able to load from every door.

Ok, so you can put funds on it but I hope it's a better value than the cash fare or I won't see the point.

That is a big negative that it can take up to a day to add funds. It should be instant like when you buy those MTA cards in new york.

haha we have already disagreed about distance based fares in the past! You know where I stand on that. I think it keeps the poor down and benefits the rich just like in London, England. To be honest, at this point, it would probably benefit me but I grew up in Scarborough and I remember how far I had to take the bus / subway and it would have crippled me to have to pay even more.

Well I mean adding funds when you are sitting at home and click "add funds!" And it charges your bank account or credit card

At service counters it could be instant. TTC will be using next gen presto, so there's probably more to it than what I am saying

A lot of transit systems with refillable cards let you refill your card at the station too, in case you're running low and don't have access to the internet to refill.

Really I don't see how PRESTO wouldn't be instant refill from home either. Maybe someone using it right now can fill us in on how fast it is to top up.

Man I wan to come back home so bad. Fuck Edmonton, I hate this city so much.

I was at deadmonton for a Bioware interview years back, company was great but it was the worst time of the year to be there. February = cold, a DRY cold. Static everywhere and skinburn from wind. -40 celcius, unreal. City was like one big lonely suburb, tho there was that one main street that had everything. I cried at the inability to get a tenren.

I think they're still working on the "instant" bit. If you're paying online, it takes a day or two. (I have no idea why.)

Yeah, that does sound weird. Is there any way to top up your card if you arrived at the GO Station and you were low on fare? Or do you just have to pay cash then?

Yeah, we both know where we stand on this. :p

Could save poor people living around the core (Regent Park, Parkdale) some money if they're travelling downtown. Someone is always going to suffer, but distance fare makes more sense for the transit system alone. Factoring in impact on residents is another story. Doing away with discounted token bundles in favour of cash only fare could be equally punishing for lower income families too. We'll see how they work it.

edit: It would be nice if they could implement the distance system and allow people / families living in Etobicoke / Scarborough living below a specific income level, to apply for a discounted PRESTO card (ie; $50 worth of credit per month loaded on to the card for $25).

You can top it up at the ticket window. Also, Union Station has kiosks that allow you to fill it on the spot with debit or credit.

Oh, another great feature that will save many people's butts: If you don't have enough for fare, it will let you take an "emergency" ride as long as your card's balance is greater than zero. Then you just top it up later from the negative, and pay a 50¢ fee.

I'm loving it. Although it is big but it doesn't bother me, I have a big head and big hands so it fits me fine.

yes refillable card! I'm all over that! I hate carrying change nowadays.

Well anything that helps bring the TTC to the 21st century can only be a good thing.

Just take our day passes and compare then with the ones from Montreal. It's an utterly embarrassing comparison.

Bag ban being overturned is dumb as fuck. I can't believe some people wanted to keep them.

Let's keep fucking up the environment guys!

On another note, my wife and I are looking for a new mattress. We've never had to buy one before, so this is a first for us. I'm just looking for good places to go buy one. Preferable not downtown as we live in North York. Also, if any of you guys would know of good brands to get (I don't want to go cheap on this, I'm willing to pay a bit more for a really nice one), that would help.

If Olivia Chow runs for Mayor and wins she can show Rob Ford how "orientals" work :)

I had a guy come into work today and say that if Olivia runs he won't vote for her, something about him knowing her personally and how she would destroy the city. I kind of pressed him a bit and all he said was "She's selfish and only cares about downtown" - that he'd rather vote for Doug Holiday for example.

The guy says a lot of things though, always entertaining.

The downtown hate is strong these days.
