The fact that some games do hit the 40-50 gig thing probably helps too.
Now there's a thought. I'd be interested in seeing the sizes of all the games listed. I wonder if that really plays into it.

EA leading the march on PC.
Funny how Ubisoft is nowhere to be seen and is the one that bitch the most.
Xenoblade not announced for NA ---> people pirate it ----> gets announced for NA later ----> doesn't sell as well because everyone played it already ----> "that's why we don't bring games over there to you filthy pirates!!"

Maybe it's the most obvious one to explain being torrented, but even then the numbers seem inflated. Prior to seeing these numbers, would you really have guessed that near a million individuals would download Xenoblade? It's one of the most obvious ones there.
So Portal 2 is pirated over 3 million times on PC and still had the best sales on that platform?
I'm sure the cracked version of Portal 2 is without a lot of functionality. Games as a service has its perks.Portal 2 downloaded 3,240,000, yet Valve still manages to be successful.
What gives....

It took like thirty five people three years to make, so it cost virtually nothing for a AAA game.

Is that common for pirated games (I know about Batman AA's glide gimp)? stuff being broken or lacking functionality etc. If so, what's the point? a shitty game experience to save a few bucks?I'm sure the cracked version of Portal 2 is without a lot of functionality. it's exactly what will happen. I also left out people who legit imported it from europe because they thought it wouldn't come here so there are more minus sales.Unfortunately, even if unintentional, this could happen.
I don't get the Call of Duty and Battlefield piracy. They can't play online if they pirate it...yes?
All that proves is that Portal 2 was a popular game to buy and a popular game to pirate--the jury's still out on the degree to which piracy eats into actual sales. So Portal 2 is pirated over 3 million times on PC and still had the best sales on that platform?

I dunno, I can't really wrap my head around the console piracy numbers... seems like a lot of work to mod them etc.

Damn, almost 4 million lost sales for Crysis 2.
You're assuming that one download = one sale. I would say at least 85 percent of the people pirating games only do so because its free and have no intention to buy them in the first place.

I'm disturbed by how prevalent this line of thinking has become - "Company X isn't going to localize it so I'll just steal it!"
Pirates are the scum of the earth.
How many of these people pirate games to play once and never touch again?
5. Kinect Sports: Season Two (690,000 downloads)
wait... what?
this is the most shocking thing on the list
If you play forty games a year, and would otherwise buy them, you've saving $2.4k a year. I can't imagine modding a console is that bothersome.
As for lacking functionality, even if you can't play the co-op, it's not as if Portal 2 isn't worth playing. Those people are still getting an incredible game.
hahaPirates are the scum of the earth.
Okay, anyone else surprised that Skyrim didn't even crack the Top 5?

You say that now but after the bombs fall and the apes come for you with their horses and their nets those archivists will have the last remaining traces of our civilization.Worse are the guys that will downloaded it just to archive it.

That's not how it works.
