Trump tries to air "fake news" 2020 campaign ad; is rejected by all major TV networks

Trump's thug followers will gladly lap it up, too. I can already see this shit becoming a talking point of theirs against the media.

Fucking shameless pieces of human garbage.

They should have rejected the fucking 'muslim ban' ad too. With completely misrepresentative imagery. It was disgusting and it was aired on prime time tv during football games.

Only when he comes after them do they care.

I might be completely wrong about this, but don't these news organizations, operating as businesses, have the ability to accept or reject whatever advertisements they want to?

Kind of like how if I go into a McDonald's I can't just start shouting racist shit and get away with it, they can kick me out since it's their private property? Or something?

Please someone correct me if I'm getting this wrong, I feel like I've read about this kind of thing before but I can't remember all the pieces.
Correct. They're allowed to call the news "fake news," but news networks are exercising their right to not air that shit on their own networks.

You're correct. Which is why the argument is so dumb. They're private companies, no matter how "official" they might feel as viewers/readers. Their property, their choice.

You aren't wrong. Freedom of speech only dictates that the government cannot censor or punish you for your speech. It does not mean that nongovernment entities like businesses need to provide a platform for that speech. In fact, the major TV networks are practicing freedom of speech just by telling the President of the United States where he can take and shove his propaganda.

Nobody has any obligation to run your bullshit slander. They already let you get away with it at the press conferences.

It continues to baffle me how so many Americans apparently don't get how their own First Amendment works, but me, a German, apparently does.

Beat EviLore at pool.
Now they grow balls?

They had to show the other ads.
In this case, the free-speech argument is not a winning one. TV stations — even over-the-air broadcasters, which are subject to tighter regulation by the Federal Communications Commission than their cable counterparts — do not have to allow the president to buy airtime for his ad.

Here is the relevant FCC rule:

No station licensee is required to permit the use of its facilities by any legally qualified candidate for public office, but if any licensee shall permit any such candidate to use its facilities, it shall afford equal opportunities to all other candidates for that office to use such facilities. Such licensee shall have no power of censorship over the material broadcast by any such candidate.

If, for example, Martin O'Malley were already in the race and if ABC, CBS and NBC affiliates had been airing his commercials, those stations would have no choice but to show Trump's, too. And they would have ”no power of censorship."

But the networks, which are not licensed by the FCC, do not have to show Trump's ad, and their affiliates can turn down Trump, so long as they have not said yes to any other 2020 presidential candidate.

If he had an opponent they would need to run it.

While what you are saying makes sense, in the wake of Pizzagate and Sandy Hook truthers, not knowing the details of the first amendment almost seems quaint.

"Unprecedented act of censorship" lol. Is it censorship that major TV networks don't run porn or my homemade action-movie that I shot on my iPhone?

Lara Trump doesn't understand what censorship is and how free speech actually works. If they can spew their lies 24/7 then media companies can decide to not repeat and to refute those lies just as well.

Snowflakes.

Can't tell if it's ignorance about the first amendment or willfully ignoring the truth to bang a political drum.

“Apparently, the mainstream media are champions of the First Amendment only when it serves their own political views. Faced with an ad that doesn’t fit their biased narrative, CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC have now all chosen to block our ad. This is an unprecedented act of censorship in America that should concern every freedom-loving citizen,”

So are Fox and Fox News actually airing this or are they just left out because they suck Trump's dick the rest of the time?

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.

I guarantee you it's the latter for Lara but probably the former for Trump.

Someone is bound to announce their candidacy eventually, if he keeps doing 2020 type things. Then it will turn into a freaking 3 year battle. I cant handle this long campaign bullshit anymore.

It's as though he's not interested in being president - just the pomp around winning. He has no interest in ruling subjects, merely being better than them.

"Never said I wasn't a hypocrite."
To celebrate 100 Days, they're releasing an ad for an election that's more than 3.5 years away?

Something about this seems odd..............

God's had his chance.
A patient in her room was watching fox on the TV yesterday and I saw this...

Honestly it was like something out of a video game or something. So little class ... so fuckin weird and brazen to just be like "Oh if you're hearing stuff you don't like it's a fuckin lie coming from a bunch of liars."

The ad literally says his first 100 days are some of the most successful of any president ever... it's just like trump talks. No need for truth or objectivity or reality here. Just say your the best and everything is amazing and no one has ever done it better and BAM ... it's the fuckin truth.

What a stain on this country.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I was pretty sure I was right in my line of thinking but you never know these days!?!? Fake thoughts!

*wanders away to cry somewhere*

The man so desperately wants to be a dictator. I have no doubt he would do the horrific things Hitler or any other dictator has done if he had the power to do so. Hopefully this country's checks and balances hold up against his obvious assaults against them.

This. He's certainly trying.

Get fucked Trump and the Republican stooges.

Also, how about the media finally stops just simply mentioning what Trump plans to do (or where he plans to go for his next bullshit "meeting" using his own resorts) in a rundown but actually continue beyond that and tell the viewer how shitty said thing is, stop with this half coverage "both sides" bullshit when Trump and his goons have shown time and time again they want to be a dictatorship so bad, have no intention of following the constitution, etc., and this is fucking not okay.

Yep. They know. It's just them playing stupid Americans on the Free Speech rhetoric.
It's really sick how they twist the whole American ideal of freedom and liberties to suit their own agendas, by coating their bullshit in layer of "protecting the Constitution and your freedoms"

You hear it all the time on right wing news. Anything that conservatives and (real) Republicans do is to save the Constitution and America, anything liberals and Democrats do is an affront to the Constitution and trying to destroy America
