Won't Trump just be nice to Bernie to try to court his supporters who don't like Hillary all that much? He has nothing to gain by attacking Bernie since he's already lost.

Of course. It would make it hard for Sanders to attack him outright at a debate, and court any of these voters that don't actually give a shit about Sanders' message to come vote for him in the general.

Bernie has been talking about debating Trump for months and it's never happened. Trump has been talking about debating Bernie for months and it never happened. Trump doesn't want to debate Bernie anyway. Ya'll are worried about something that fucking Jimmy Kimmel suggested, get a hold of yourselves. Bernie's just calling Trump's bluff because Trump needs more media attention which is why he suggested they do it for charity.

I think the notion that Bernie will do this to weaken Hillary's positioning is....fucking stupid. It's fucking stupid. I think Bernie will be out for Trump blood. I really don't mind the idea of a nothing to lose wildcard progressive getting a chance to take a couple cracks at Trump.

Who knows, maybe Bernie can get away from his stump long enough to make Trump look like a dickhead. Worst comes to worst, Trump makes Bernie look like a crazy, old Communist.

Yes. It'll be interesting to see how an attack from the left affects Trump - socks from China, his own use of immigrant labour, bank bailouts. There are a lot of angles that his Republican rivals were never going to go near. Trump can shout communist or socialist at Sanders, he can shout racist back at him, maybe stick that label to the Republican party as a whole.

Fox rigging the live audience would be my biggest concern.

She already got the "men are against us" vote all in the bag so I don't think that will make any difference.

This can only hurt Hillary.

I mean, unless Sanders makes Trump look like a fool.

One of the two has a lot more experience at 1v1 debates than the other; 1v1 debates where you can't wait for one of the other 10 people on stage desperate to belt out some nonsense to rescue you from a tough line of questioning.

This is terrible idea, but on the plus side Hillary will get an early look of how Trump will debate a liberal. So this should help her during her debates with Trump.

He has worse impulse control than most of the Hillary fans here and they can't stop themselves from attacking Sanders or his supporters.

Fantastic!

It will be great to hear them. Ash the establishments and Clinton.

This is what Hillary gets for going back on her word once again.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Trump will just attack Clinton. Sanders will either have to defend Clinton or join in on the attacks. And I think the latter is more likely given he's gone full on delusional over the last month.

Bernie is an idiot. The fact he has agreed to this is idiotic. I watch the US primaries very closely from my country, and I used to like the energy he brought to the US political process. But this is so delusionally stupid I honestly have no idea what is going through his head.

Thirty years of experience in the political process and he's being thoroughly outplayed by an amateur.

You've lost Sanders, go home.

As someone who started in the Bernie camp and now finds himself in the Clinton camp, here's my views.

Firstly, I still sort of doubt this will happen. But if it does, I'm gonna try my best not to worry. The fear is that a debate hosted by Fox News and starring Donald Trump will be an opportunity for them to attack Clinton with Sanders help while she is unable to defend herself. If her campaign takes that threat seriously, I think she'd just join the debate so she can defend herself. But I'm going to give Bernie the benefit of the doubt here. I know he doesn't want Clinton to be president, but I know he really really really doesn't want Trump to be President. I think he knows the potential for this to help the Republicans in November and I'm gonna give him some credit and assume he's gonna try and make this debate about him v. Trump, and not him or Trump v. Clinton.

That's my two cents.

The thing is.. Trump is not one to be backed into a corner. Everytime he has had those thugs at Fox trying to gun him down, he fought back and won. Even if they do rig the audience I wouldn't be surprised if a few people found their bodies clapping, laughing or cheering him on.

Fully agreed. If this dumb debate goes ahead we should really just have Obama outright endorse Hillary and force Bernie to concede. This delusional cult leader is now actively out to harm the democratic nominee and helping Trump to win. What a buffoon.

At some point you need to stop blaming Bernie for these problems and realize that Hillary is not doing a good job of courting people who are not exactly satisfied with the political system as is stands. And it's kinda obnoxious to complain to them that Bernie "isn't following the script". Dislike of the other candidate is not a good anchor for a party, if Hillary loses it won't be because of Bernie but because she failed to cater to enough of the voting base, plain and simple.

She did run away with it. It's been over for a while. I'm sorry that you're so bad at math and can't see that, but California won't even matter.

If it weren't for 2008, the 2016 democratic primary has been one of the closest contests in years. 2008 was insanely close. 2016 has been very close.

Also, I think most Sanders supporters like myself obviously realize Hillary is going to be the nominee. But I also want Sanders to stay in, because it gives him the avenue for his votes and say to go into the democrats platform. We've seen them actually try and show some unity after giving Bernie the cold shoulder for months.

I think if Bernie gets some tenants of his platform onto the democrats platform at large, it would be huge not only for the country, but would go a long way to ensuring Trump gets routed come November.

He'll have to fight these impulses honestly.

Shit talking Bernie only drives his on the fence supporters into Clinton's arms once he's out.

lol genius move by Trump. As he's a master troll I presume that he will be extremely nice to Bernie and spend most of the time railing against "the establishment".

What a strawman

"It was pretty glowing about us. It’s so far from what she sounds like as a candidate now."
I'm sure they paid her and every person in existence they paid to speak negatively of them. See also comedian's paid for corporate gigs

I agree, this is a likely outcome.

Yup it will be a 1 hour ad for Trump as the anti-establishment candidate. He'll adjust his policy for the debate and flip-flop the second it's over like he always does. Sanders will play the part of the convenient idiot.

Bernie is so smart this debate is just his audition tape. Going to hand trump a mixtape and Trump going to put a Roc-a-fella necklace on Bernie after he realize 40% of their fans are the same

If anything, Trump is going to agree with Sanders on a lot of things just so all the Bernie supporters who are watching say "Holy shit, I actually agree with this guy!" and win their votes.

But according to GAF a few month ago anybody who viewed them as having common ground was literally insane and GAF couldn't even.

Now this is a likely scenario? At least some are starting to accept the reality that people don't always blindly ride a party line.

This is hilarious.

Bernie will try to use this to prove he can beat Trump and should get the nomination.

Trump is counting on it. He'll use the opportunity to get brownie points by donating the proceeds to charity. He probably will allow Bernie to get some good hits in. This fires up the Bernie crowd, and makes them even more angry when Hillary gets the nomination.

Cue three party vote - Republicans, Dems for Hillary, and Dems for Bernie. Democratic party split, Trump wins by default.

They're both anti-establishment populists with awful views on trade.

If your voting is dictated entirely by either your need to stick it to the man, or tell everyone you have literally no idea about basic economic theory, then yes they have so much in common.

You forgot that Trump is a secret democrat and he is going to lose to Hillary on purpose.

Trump is going clown Bernie.

Pssst... They actually don't have common ground. Trump is trying to steal away his angry voters with Trump styled bullshit.

You have to be better than this. Politics 101.

I voted for Bernie. I really like a lot of his opinions. However, god damn man, you're gonna sink the entire ship if you don't bail out ASAP and let Hilldawg move on to the general election.

I'll vote for whichever Democrat runs in the general, but shit, I'm losing faith in the entire process in the sense that I think Trump will win this.

She already did. She gave conceded a much bigger DNC platform to Bernie than she should have (5 votes for him vs her 6). Despite Bernie going to lose resoundingly. At some point Bernie needs to stop. He has no path. He lost. And at SOME POINT he has to start bridging the divide between his ardent supporters and the democratic party.
