Twitch troll tries to donate $50k then chargeback as a prank. It ends bad.

Get fuckin rekt. First time I wanted to buy something online and buy something online I practically had to beg my parents for it. Even after that I asked for permission every single time. Both parents and kid learned a valuable lesson

Doubt it. At least the parents should punish him somehow, but again, doubt it.

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
Good gravy, judging by this guy's Twitter, I'd say that streamer in the garage deserved the money more than he did.

don't ask me for codes
People here defending fraud. Not surprised.

Also, stop calling him a kid. He's an adult.

If the guy is an adult, serves him right, if the guy is a kid, holy fuck, i weep for his parents, one thing is fucking yourself over, an entirely different thing is fucking over your family into 50 K worth of debt.

The reason he waited so long to try the chargeback was in the hopes that they spent some/all of it. He was trying to put them 10k into debt. Had Paypal sided with him then their lives could have been ruined for "the lulz".
Exactly. Charge backs are no joke. Lucky he isn't thrown in jail for fraud.

Let's protect the idiot adult instead of the multiple lives he tried to ruin.

Somehow I doubt the twitch troll learned his lesson.
If he's already trying to ruin people's lives at 18, I'm afraid to imagine what he'll attempt in the years to come.

This is like an 18 year old man (yes, 18 year old males are men, not kids) handing out money on the street to random people then coming a month later and demanding it back after it has been spent on groceries, utilities etc. I hate this whole "streaming and donating culture" but I'm assuming these people depend on that money and have already spent it.

He deserves this monumental debt for being an asshole. This isn't some kid who doesn't know any better. I would feel awful if it was. It's a dumb adult who is suffering from his actions like any other adult who fucks up.

I was about to comment about how he deserves it but losing $50,000 is beyond justice porn and into life ruining. Then I realised he appears to be a spoilt rich kid so fuck him.

It's probably cause the guy got greedy. He might have been able to get a refund from one person. You can't say you mistakingly gave 10 people donations tho.

At the very least he has to be responsible for all charge back fees, which won't be insignificant.

From his Twitter he looks well off, but I've learned in the past the people that brag about money usually don't have as much as you think.

$50k will still hurt and he doesn't seem like the type of chap to admit it publicly.

Tabris-level opulence.

Hope the kid thinks twice before doing something this stupid again.

Allegedly, the only reason he did this was because he wanted to promote his own Twitch without actually having to pay for the donations.

With that in mind, what do you reckon the chances are of him being a big enough cunt that he's attempting to promote his Twitter by pulling the same stunt with this?

OP should update the OP so people don't think this is an underage kid donating and immediately charging it back.

he has all this money but he uses his phone to take pictures of his computer screen instead of taking screenshots

Well it's not really his money.

I had a friend who at the time I believe was somewhat depressed and looking for a way to feel something. He started bidding on ebay auctions he didn't think he would win with money he didn't have. It started with bids of like $50-$100 on things that were worth $500, like computers. It eventually moved up to bidding thousands of dollars on cars. Fortunately he got himself out of that compulsion after a few weeks and never accidentally won anything.

Maybe this rich kid was feeling something similar.

I find it weird that people are defending the dude and saying he should get his money back. You guys do know that if this happens, the streamers may be put into debt? He waited a month before attempting to chargeback and these streamers could have spent some or a lot of it by then. You're essentially saying to punish the streamers and let the asshole troll get off scott free.

The reason he waited so long to try the chargeback was in the hopes that they spent some/all of it. He was trying to put them 10k into debt. Had Paypal sided with him then their lives could have been ruined for "the lulz".

He also seems to have been mostly targeting streamers who probably don't actually make that much money from streaming. I don't see a lot of streamers that wouldn't balk at even a three-figure donation in that compilation, much less four-figure.

Like, if he donated $1,000 to Imaqtpie and then tried to do a chargeback that's credit fraud and a dick move in general, but at least it's not targeting someone who's unlikely to be able to handle suddenly having that money pulled out from under them. Specifically seeking out streamers who are probably doubling their monthly take or more from the donation is a real shit move.

Holy crap... twitch streams are an absolute ADD nightmare.

I didn't realize "OW MY BALLS" actually existed.

This incident aside, I just don't understand the logic of giving money to people who stream. I get it, you might enjoy watching them, but is that really all it takes to get you to throw money at them?

Well I do subscribe to giantbomb... So, I guess?

At the end of the day, what I pay for and do consume on there, is mostly stuff streamers do (quicklooks) although I guess I also do listen to podcasts. But streamers are huge these days, lots of people, especially kids watch that all day.

This kid will be fine. Debt will not ruin his life. He did something really unconscionable and thought he could manipulate his way into getting out of it. Good for paypal, good for the people who got his money, good for him. Maybe he'll learn something but sounds like he doesn't even care.

People up here acting like being a teenager means all misdeeds should be excused. This kid is a troll, and has no empathy for the people on the other end of his screen. This stuff can't just be funny, it needs to stop. Just because trolls exist doesn't mean they should be condoned.

Wow I guess I'm angry.

I can't remember where I read it but there was a nice post detailing how outright crazy they all are, and after reading it I'm inclined to agree.

He tried to ruin other people with chargebacks.

It's karma. Don't be a cunt to others and everything will be ok.

I'm not familiar with how Twitch works.

Is there no limit to the amount of money you can donate?

The donations aren't done through twitch directly. They use a different website to take the donations through paypal and then just have a way for the donation to show up on their stream through a bot or something.

The kid is an absolute dickhead, and he should pay for any and all damages but a 50k debt at 18 can destroy his life. If he can somehow chargeback at least half of the donations I really do think he should, a 25k debt is a lot more manageable and not as life destroying as a 50k debt.

$50k isn't life destroying when you're a millionaire. Fuck this guy.

I'm really really happy for all the streamers.

the thread title should say it ends well not bad.

But it doesn't.

Did some quick research on this and it looks like this happened all the way in January 2016 but there doesn't seem to be any actual info about whether or not the chargebacks were actually successful. The only news about it is Sodapoppin saying he'll try to fight the chargeback
https://www.reddit.com/r/sodapoppin...s_ninja_attempts_to_chargeback_the_thousands/

So there's no proof it ended "bad" for the scammer

I would probably enjoy this more if it was like 5K or even 10K but 50k is rough. I'm not feeling bad for that idiot-asshole but for his parents who probably have to pay in the end

Edit: MAN watching that video makes me feel so damn old. Cause all I wanna do is scream at those pesky kids and their horrible acting.

if he can donate it... doesn't it means that he had all that money on his paypal??

All the people that were trying to defense force this kid must not realize how damaging chargebacks can be to vendors(streamers in this case) it's not "oh just give him his money back and no one's hurt". Fraudulent chargebacks hurt their victims significantly.

Chargebacks are not a tool for when you change your mind about a purchase, it's what you do when you think you have been the victim of fraud.

Fuck this kid, rich or not, it's purely malicious behavior intended to hurt others. He wanted these people to spend some of the money so he could tear it away and leave them in debt. Why the fuck do people want to defend that behavior?
