Visceral's Star Wars game['s dev process is similar to Uncharted], new concept art

This is where I was hoping the industry would go, if that's what you call crashing? I'm going to have a goddamn good time going down with it.

You want every AAA game to adhere to one formula? I can't fathom it, even if that formula was something I enjoyed. I want original ideas and new mechanics, not regurgitation.

Serious question, do you think any of that backlash matters? Because just as many people, if not more still love it, especially 4.

I mean we've heard people complain about the series overall, especially the dislike for the last one. I don't think people expect everybody to love this franchise and of course the aspects that were changed in U4.

To me seems like lately people are trying to push this narrative that the uncharted series is completely crap and other games shouldn't want to be like it, but clearly it's popular and people appreciate other games taking from naughty dog.

Not saying you have to like it, but is there really a need to make seem more then what it is? Not trying to start an argument, just wanted to get that off my mind.

Merely an observation regarding a changing climate. Some of the elements Uncharted specialises in are seemingly going out of favour, mostly due to over-saturation.

Personally, I never liked the UC games. I finished the first two and didn't have a great time. I quit halfway through the third despite it having the most interesting story and ideas, because I'd just had enough of the limited and repetitive gameplay. If people are coming around to the same realisation, it wouldn't surprise me. I still haven't played the 4th, but I'd be willing to give the series another chance (although I'm not willing to buy it) after claims that UC4 uses TLoU (a game I eventually ended up enjoying a lot) as a model for both structure and combat.

- Amy Hennig
- Third Person Shooter
- Nolan North
- Star Wars

Well yeah it is definitely Star Wars Uncharted lol.
I think Nolan North is attached to this anyways, I could be wrong.

There's been a significant and palpable backlash against Uncharted of late.

People making cynical stabs at Uncharted in general like you has been a thing since forever. People making cynical stabs at an Uncharted game has been bigger as of late because Uncharted 4 - their (and mine) specific target - has only been out since a couple months ago.

That sounds great to me.

Uncharted with Jedi powers is off putting? What? If anything that sounds incredible.

Wait we're confirmed to be playing as a Jedi? I haven't been keeping up with this game, not do I know much about past Star Wars games. I just assumed we'd be a non-jedi character.

Interest fading tbh. I guess with Hennig it should've been expected

I thought she was just a writer?

edit:

She's also Creative Director, so...

oh

A Star Wars game that plays like Uncharted and is made by the original Uncharted director?

Are you kidding me? This is AMAZING news.

Can't wait to see how it runs/looks on Scorpio. I'm totally ok with it playing like Uncharted. With Amy Hennig, maybe it won't be as disappointing like Uncharted 4.

Don't get me wrong regarding UC4 though, I enjoy it but found it weaker than previous UC games especially I don't know how much Amy Hennig stuff remained in UC4.

Plays like Uncharted = Yay!

Concept art shows another fucking desert planet = BOO!

Hopefully that concept art is just a small part of a planet hopping adventure. Can't wait to pull a stormtrooper off a ledge.

like uncharted? so you'll be cheering while murdering people?

Finally a new mass murderer to rival Drake.

Han did shoot first...

And then Kylo and all.

I've played Uncharted 4 and a bit of 2. There's so much stuff where the interaction felt basically meaningless, especially the incredibly dull climbing sections which they insist on using to pad out the game.

The actual mechanics are goddamn paper thin and that's why they rely on so many things to force a certain pace on the game.

Good news that UC4 was not Amy, eh?

Some people are trying way too hard as of late, lol.

Especially when that was NOT what she said as the title suggests. Watched the panel, no mention was made, just comparisons of crafting story telling, cinematic experiences they learned over three years.

As long as the combat doesn't completely suck I'll be on board.

Let's hope they remember that they're making a game and not a B movie.

I will predict that after the game comes out, we will have people making threads about how this game is way better than any uncharted ever just like tomb raider reboot.

At least it won't have the constant companion characters, press triangle to boos me up, crate pushing monotony of the last two ND titles. Looks like we'll be playing as a Star Wars version of Nathan based on that gif.

There is a second character with you the whole ride (seemingly co-op, etc) based on comments and and concept art. And two speeder bikes were outside the cantina in the early work video from E3.

But wait, Jade Raymond is working on this as well, so you should be good. ;)

I hope she writes a better char than Nathan Drake this time around. As someone who reads a lot he is pretty disappointing for the archetype he was written to be.

Ya know, Uncharted 4 made me retroactively like TLOU less now that I think about it. I don't know if UC2 & UC3 were two lucky gems in a row or what (and UC3 was a big regression as well, but it didn't suck like UC4), because I'm not trusting their next game to be as good as I would have a few years ago.

I thought TLOU's forced walks, forced dialog, and godawful crate sections were a one-time thing, but they doubled down in UC4, what a shame.

She excels at dialog & character interactions, I don't think there's any writer in the industry that does dialog better than her.

I think there's this issue with narrative vs gameplay that has been divisive for the industry. On one hand, you have people who just want to do stuff and on the other hand you have people who want to experience stuff

OT: you said you read a lot, would you be willing to offer critic on a short narrative o made? Would really appreciate it

Even worse. It's starwars so I hope she's letting them design creative gadgets for encounters and set pieces since SW is full of them.

If it's co-op that'd be really nice.

It made me realize that companion characters that are completely unplayable are something that game devs still haven't figured out. They slow you down considerably and feel so directed and scripted that even if the dialogue is well written they still don't feel like an actual person there with you. That coupled with things like invisibility during stealth sections is pretty immersion breaking in an experience handcrafted to be "immersive." In this current era between games giving you lots of player agency games like Uncharted which try to come in this middle ground by simultaneously restricting your experience at every step via forced walking, long cutscenes, and little ways to craft your own "narrative" while playing the game, (based on how you play) while doing something like giving you a big field filled with nothing of value aren't working for me personally. I felt like TR was in the right direction of that middle ground due to the metroidvania esque way they used the world and lots of optional tombs. I'm actually gonna replay TLOU this weekend to see what it does better than UC4.

Holy shit is a lot of needless, drive by Uncharted shit posting happening. Clearly it's not going to be [whatever your mediocre perception of Uncharted is] to a T. They just mean it'll likely be a story driven third person action game. Uncharted is a critically, commercially, and perceived commonly as a fantastic franchise as well so it sounds like a whole bunch of insecure fan boy comments.

alright... I guess that would be cool. Very heavy into a side story within the lore.. I would really would like a bethesda-y rpg like star wars game tho (without any jedi). Or kind of like star wars force unleashed.
