Well... Chatbots are now a thing on PSN

I probably received those, but had no idea.

Always that I turn my PS4 on after a while there's a mesage from someone without an avatar, that played absolutely nothing in their profile, opening a conversation with me. I just hit the "leave chat" option.

The messenger app has a report for spam option

But sony insist its not against the code of conduct

?

You may not take any action that SIE LLC, SIEA or its affiliates consider to be disruptive to the normal flow of chat or gameplay, including uploading, posting, streaming, or otherwise transmitting any unsolicited or unauthorized material, including junk mail, spam, excessive mail or chain letters.

Received one today as well. Just left the group the chat bit added me in and called it a day. Now hope it's just the one time and I don't become bombarded.

I've gotten 3 or 4 of these over the last month or so. I also just leave the chat immediately, but it is annoying that it's still happening.

Got one last night. At first I thought it was from someone in my new Destiny 2 clan, the name being "warmannika." I thought "oh, 'War man Nika,' like he's into fighting and his name is Nika." But I scanned the names in the clan and realized I probably had a bot on my hands. Ended up googling the name and realized it was actually "Warm Annika," because I sure got a lot of porn hits for warm girls named Annika.

I've had a ton of these recently.

I wasn't sure what was going on, but it felt dodgy so I never answered back and immediately left the group. The other day I set my privacy settings to only friends can message me which has solved the problem.

Wow, so it's a recent thing? I got one recently from "ugliest_delta".
The convo didn't go very far before I blocked them, but didn't realise it was a bot xD

Got a message from a Susana something or other on PS the other night. Pretty certain it's a bot. Good luck getting me to respond, I've probably got a wall of unanswered FB messages of three or more years stacked up that I can't be bothered with so the bots have no hope with me.

My little brother got one of these yesterday, luckily I was there and blocked it before anything weird happened. How can I prevent this?

You can turn off messages from people not on your friend list by going to Settings > PlayStation Network/Account Management > Privacy Settings.

I get these messages pretty much every day. They always ask your age and usually stop immediately if you are underage. I try and have fun with them, but they don't play along :/

2nd one this week, kinda weird how we went years without getting these and now it's a regular thing all of a sudden.

Before the only problem was idiots forwarding chain letters

My girlfriend plays a lot of Elder Scrolls Online on the Xbone and has had two or three encounters. She also is in a couple of guilds that have group chats and stuff, and they always post their experiences. I was under the impression that this is somewhat of a new thing but is happening pretty often. Then again I haven't seen one yet.

So I just received a random "hi xox" message from a random person on PSN. Naturally curious I answered and a semblance of a normal conversation followed. Until it dawned on me that I was talking to a bot.

How did I know it was a bot? The conversation didn't evolve correctly once I showed signs of pushback. Like I said, the conversation started normally, until the bot started mentioning that it does private cam shows. I said I don't like watching camgirls, but the bot just prattles on and even giving me a link (didn't click on it obviously).

I made screens of the conversation so I can prove this really happened, but honestly the last place I would expect to find these kinds of chatbots was on PSN.

UPDATE:
Screenshots of how you can recognize a bot profile, it's real easy!

Screenshots on how a typical bot conversation would go (obviously links have been censored).

Anyone else had this kind of "experience" on PSN, Xbox Live, Steam, etc.?
Ya twice now on PSN one on my main & one on my sub acc

I received a spam bot message last week, I figured out what it was immediately and had some fun with it before blocking it. It was bizarre as there was a kind of conversation but it was a bot.

I wonder where they're getting the PSN ID's. I was playing on a "test" account some time ago (it's been active for a few months) - 0 friends, 0 groups/followed etc., no PS+, not tracked by psnprofiles or any of that stuff and still got a message from a chatbot.

On my primary account disabling messages from strangers worked really well. I still can add people if they send a friend invitation and avoid spam altogether.

they're likely just bruteforcing names, the search space due to the character count limit and what characters you can use is relatively small.

I got one of these yesterday. I was half paying attention to the messages while working. Then it mentioned it was in Cali on break from university. I was like, "Oh right on, what are you studying?" Then it went right into, "Hey I have a fun idea if you're interested lololol" and I immediately felt like a moron.

When you say you are 16 those conversations stop immediately. Also I tried reporting them to psn several times but psn got angry with me and told me I could get banned from reporting people for no good reason.

I got one a couple of days ago. I changed my chat settings so that only friends can send me messages. I'll leave it like that for a few weeks or so and change it back to the way it was.

I got a similar message a while back and was pretty sure it was a bot. I asked "what's the link?" and it sent it right away without having to go through the whole speech. Might be an easy way to immediately tell if the person messaging you is real.

An easier way is just looking at the profile. These are level 0 accounts with 0 trophy activity.

I'll chat to them enough to get them to send a link and then report them. It's starting to feel futile though considering just how many there are out there.

Just had my 1st one, ocked them without reply.

lmao at the OP though, he's so trying to hook up with the bot in those 1st few images. Haha.

A girl called fnd146smoocher tried to talk with me but I take 2-3 days to reply messages lol it didn't go well for this bot.

I had my first one about an hour ago. Added me to a group and sent a message saying something like "What's up there". I just left the chat without replying. Even if it was a real person what the fuck am I supposed to say to that.

I received three so far in the past 2 weeks. I reported each one.

WTF? This shit needs to be nipped in the bud ASAP by Sony. I don't feel my account is safe with these fucks.
