Is there a nice detailed lists of innovations homebrew/open access to the system has brought? Good and bad ones...

I might dabble with emulators later but for now I just use it to make and install disc backups. I love finally having all my Wii U games available on the menu screen and my 40 odd physical copies lined up on my bookshelf, having my cake and eating it regarding the physical vs digital debate. I've ended up spending about £120 on Wii U games since hacking my system.
Same here, couldn't connect through that DNS anymore. Hopefully the time to use internet without condoms has comeAny of the DNS died recently ?
Tryed to update zelda and it didn't worked ....
Had to change to my dns free connection to update it

So, just to check: As long as I'm dumping my retail discs and then installing them to my hard drive, I should be safe to play online, right? Can I install updates through the normal method?
I'm dumping Xenoblade right now, so I guess I'll find out soon enough. I'm moreso concerned about Smash, since I don't want to risk getting banned by playing online.
This is a good guide to follow. Is there a foolproof step by step guide somewhere?
Instructions in the OP aren't working for me. I keep getting FSOpenFile failed. error everytime I run the website.
SD card is FAT32 and has the homebrew launcher.
Dump Wii games through vWii, which requires it's own hack. If there's an easier way I'd like to know! Can I dump wii games? or is it limited to wiiu/eshop games?
Oh shit I updated my fw upon playing Breath of the Wild. I'm fucked now right?
My WiiU was not updated. Can I still buy a DS game on eShop and do the hack to use a HDD for games? Or will it force me to update my FW?
Yes I used mine no issues. If there are Switch owners here, did you re-use your same NNID from WiiU / 3DS? I want to because I still have spare change on it, and because of the potential virtual console games migration (who am I kidding), but I'm afraid they might decide to ban it out of the blue. Am I just being paranoid?
dumb question, asking anyways: is there any chance at all of transferring WiiU saves of identical/ports (BOTW, MK8) to Switch? I know the answer is no, but yeah.

wait lol. you have to use the browser everytime you want to run this? If I rip a game it wont just show up on my wii u menu? what in the hell.
Is there a way to play import backups?
1. you don't have to use the browser everytime if you have a vc ds game and install haxchi
2. if you rip a game using disc2app and wup installer it will show up on your wii u menu, and you will not have to run haxchi or your homebrew entry point to play it
So with disc2app I can basically install my WiiU games to the HDD without having to place the disc in the drive right?
This is a gamechanger for me right now.
Yes. It's exactly as if you had bought the game from the eShop itself, no need to launch additional apps, your games will be all there on the Wii U menu screen once dumped and installed. All the benefits of buying digitally but with a physical copy to show for it on your shelf!

ive took the dive and hacked my wii got haxchii installed, in the homebrew launcher is there no way for me to use my wiiu pro controller to launch applications and emulators such as snes9x and vba. I don't want to have to keep grabbing the gamepad to launch stuff and access menus.
1 last question:
-Will all my DLC and previous saves still work?
Tell me about it lol.
Question: I have a retail copy of the new Zelda but it is asking me to update my system. I don't want to because in the future I might want to put Homebrew on it. If I run the exploit can I keep my current firmware and still be able to play Zelda without having to update?
You can update your system. Nintendo haven't updated the Wii U firmware in about 15 months, it's likely that 5.5.1 is the final firmware version. The exploits are made for 5.5.1.

But my Wii U is on 5.5.1 U already. It is asking to update so I'm assuming it is to put a new firmware. No?
No, it's the game update for BotW.
No, it's the game update for BotW.
It appears like a system update because it will also install the necessary 3gb install if you have the disk version
edit : it works that way because you can ignore a game update and start the game anyway, but you can't ignore a system update and start the game and if loadiine versions of the game is any indication, you seriously NEED that install to run Zelda =P
So say i have haxchi installed, but it's not coldboot. If i have a game that was installed on the system memory (through Wii U USB Helper), do i need to load haxchi everytime before loading said game?1. you don't have to use the browser everytime if you have a vc ds game and install haxchi

No, only if said game is not from your region or it's a VC game, in which case you just hold B button during haxchi boot.So say i have haxchi installed, but it's not coldboot. Oh ok! Thanks for the reply! I've been paranoid about booting haxchi every time prior to playing the installed Wii U game... Havent bricked a system yet and i don't plan on starting now. I got everything and anything possible set up to prevent the Wii U from going online. Thanks again!!No, only if said game is not from your region or it's a VC game, in which case you just hold B button during haxchi boot.
It gives an error about the user or profile not being on the system to which the game is tied to. Or something like that I believe, haven't done it in a while.Oh ok! Thanks for the reply! So, what would happen if you attempted to load an other region game or VC game without loading haxchi prior?
An error message screen will appear. So, what would happen if you attempted to load an other region game or VC game without loading haxchi prior?
Hopefully a quick question.. I just want to run dumps of my disks on a USB hard drive, no disk swapping and saving wear and tear on the dvd drive.
Do I just need haxchi and the wup installer?
I'm not really sure about what the purpose of going further and installing redNAND and Mocha.
Does redNAND just allow the running of haxchi from an SD card, so another level of safety and less chance of a brick?
Mocha, still not sure what it's for!
