It's like someone really liked Avengers and Pacific Rim and found a property they could license to make the movie they really really really wanted to make. Lots of action, great effects, superb creature design, UI porn, etc but little else which I assume was the reason to watch this in the first place.

I feel bad for laughing at that GIF.
Also Yunyun is just hilariously pathetic. Did a double-take and laughed my ass off when I realized her letter from this week's episode was basically her pretending to be Megumin, whereas Megumin is written as being the lonely loser instead.

also why do Mamoru and Galeon have to leave, everything was going all right. Perhaps they will be able to find "kaidou". Something more conclusive would have been nice too, will they even find more?

Just thought I'd mention Tower, a documentary about the UT Austin shootings, to anyone who is interested in animation as a storytelling medium.
Using animation for recreations, even for the "talking head" testimonials of witnesses and victims of the events somehow makes the documentary more immediate and contemporary when you would expect it to do the opposite. Certainly it doesn't feel like an event that happened in 1966 as you are watching it.
I'm surprised at how well this worked.
