Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Releases December 1st 2017

"Camera angle." Right.

GoNintendo did a few other comparisons of characters and shots from the recent footage to earlier stuff. Everything is definitely improving.

That's not the same image that was posted earlier.

You still haven't mentioned any "major" improvements.

The lighting is different. The IQ is different. The Shading is different. The scenes are different. Is it a "major" improvement? No, no it is not.

If you think it is, that's great. It'll probably look like a nextgen title to you by the time it releases.

Knowing the main character deep dives makes his over-bulged armor make a lot more sense. I think the game is shaping up nicely, but the long combat sections made it look extremely boring in terms of gameplay. Hopefully the full game is a much snappier affair.

Not sure about this one, something about it feels rough, as if the characters and the world don't mix and the monsters aren't fully polished. But I'll be watching as I do have a lot of interest in a brand new RPG for the switch.

Edit: Sorry for all the typos, my english wasn't working this morning.

The combat depth in xenoblade comes from your preperation in terms of arts and equipment etc, and from executing on combos and adapting tp the situation. Both previous xenoblade games seemed quite simple at first, then when you start to get into it theres a whole lot of depth, and the combat never wore thin for me even across 100 hours of gameplay. I cant say the same for most FF games. :)

Xenoblade Games generally don't show well in combat as much as they play well though I think Xenoblade X made a couple more mistakes and was more meandering in what it was trying to do vs the original.

Pretty much everyone who's gone hands on noted the complexity and that there is a lot going on at a given moment and that makes sense because there is a decent bit going on.

The difference here is that the pace is slower in X2. Because now you pause when you move. Plus there are additional animation breaks since you have now 6 characters attacking on screen. This makes the combat boring in my opinion. I don't think that the added strategy layer is a worth trade-off for the change of pace.

It is hard to gauge combat speed until we try it out ourselves. Like in previous games, combat speed can be improved by character augments and buffs, and if still present can really amp up the tempo of battle.

try it out before judge.
I did, it felt deeper, not slower.

That's why I focused in my comment on the two aspects that are very unlikely to be changed, since they are design decisions: you can't attack and you control directly 2 characters (hero and blade) each with each own animation breaks.

You don't control the Blade. You control the Blade's weapon. Sure, your character can't attack while moving but the other characters are still attacking in the meantime, so I'm not sure it'll be that much of a loss, and as far as animations breaks are concerned, they are the same regardless of the Blade system: each attack has its animation (but can be chained into the regular attack combo) as it always had, and now there's a longer, flashier one for the Blade arcane attack when you give it back the weapon.

I understand your concern though, I just don't have the same read on the footage shown.

I really hope the add Japanese vo after release like they did for zelda because man that's painful

They never added anything. All languages were on the card you bought in all regions. You could always play in JP, you just couldn't mix it with other language subs.

How are you guys feeling about the Sword Ass and Tiddies? I have so many mixed feelings about it, I will buy it and gave it a fair point, but the design, how it jiggles, the weird thong thing is just... So awful

I fucking hate it. It looks so bad, straight out of some perv game.

I've personally never been this conflicted with a game over character designs. Pyra is the worst offender, but many of the other characters are really ugly too. I'll still play the game day one and I'm so happy that the game comes out this year, but man does it rub me the wrong way :(

I don't like it that much, but not because I'm offended by it as many seem to be. It's not that outrageous, really. I just don't find it particularly brilliant.

I find it ridiculous and unacceptable for a modern game. I know that they had this kind of fan service in the previous games, but those costumes were optional. I think it's a pity especially since the series is great on its own and should try more to sell based the quality of the game and not make appeal to cheap tricks like this.

Red girl is a pretty solid design. White girl sucks because she's literally a lazy copy of the same design from Exiled From Paradise.

The character design is the only thing I'm not looking forward to.

I really hope you can give her a cooler outfit. Like Velvet from ToB she's pretty much the only main cast member dressed in a skimpy way so she looks odd

Just out of curiosity, what would the detractors think of something like this? (Behold my Paint skills)

Her top half doesn't bother me to be honest, but her bottom half, I'm mostly thinking, "How does something like that (her "shorts") even work? It makes no practical sense! Argh!"

And to think, from that one interview about Monolith consulting with NoA regarding censorship, it sounds like it was even WORSE. I can't even imagine.

Switching subjects, apologies if I missed it, but has anyone made some cool GIFs of the environments? Would love to drool over some of those again.

I've legit never cared about stuff like this. I can understand why some people would and respect their complaints and issues, but I don't take offense to it at all.

Also, watched the Direct again and I am just so hyped now. I found my copy of XC1 for N3DS, so I'll be diving back into that after I finish up Monster Hunter Stories!

Very disappointed that they would target horny straight male teenagers with that design. Makes me almost not wanna play it.

Don't care about that stuff, as long as the game is good. Her design is still dumb but whatever.

My feelings are pretty much the same, it's a shame that it's her design. I can only speak for myself but I have a couple dresses/pair of shorts that make me borderline feel exposed and they are longer then what she's wearing. Video game logic I know but even with simple, basic movements everything would practically be exposed wearing something like that let alone combat bleh.

-----------

On a different note I'm thinking about buying XC1 soon as I haven't played it yet and there seems to be tons of listing of it on amazon all physical and new for around $35 are those all real copies and safe to get? The sellers all seem to have near 100% feedback and there's many sellers at that price but that last time I checked long ago it was $80-$100+ and was really hard to find, sorry if this is a silly question.

Pyras design is a little over the top for sure. But im kinda 'meh' about it. I just put it at the back of my mind and dont let it bother me.

And what the hell. Still now pre-orders up for Canada? Im getting worried im gonna miss the controller and special edition. :(

Another thing to get excited over is they say this will be more story focused like XCX was not.

Now, will it be able to reach how great the story was in the Wii game, who knows, but I love this news.

Weird people here are offended with somebody who wears that kind of clothes but does not reveal any offending skin. Like there are literally a good number of games that shows naked girls or much more revealing clothes than that. Even explicit sex sometimes. Hopefully people here show double the outrage over those.

I'm trying to avoid spoilers but want to know about this: does the game have a class system like Xenoblade X or it's like Chronicles were each char had 1 "role"? Loved changing classes on X and mixing skills.

I think those roles are tied to blades.

I'm not sure there will be a mad rush to get this. So far in the US BB and GS pre-orders are still up.

I just hope it's not retailer limited here in Canada. At least it looks like BBC will have them.

OK.

- The existence of sexually provocative clothing is nobody's issue. The fact that a seemingly underage character wears obviously provocative clothing gratuitously however is the issue. It feeds into a continuous exploitation of women as titillation material first, interesting characters....maybe, possibly, if at all, second.
- The fact that some games feature female characters in sexually evocative clothing or even explicit sex scenes does not rule out the appropriate use of said clothing and / or scenes. Mass Effect's sex scenes have context and relevance. Fire Emblem's "It's ok I'm a 2000yo dragon so I can wear thongs in your face while looking 12yo" isn't. Now if you tell me Pyra's supposed to be a part-time blade / part-time escort, it's still stupid actually so please don't.
- None of that is a purity test, a challenge about whom may be the most offended over skin showing, O LORD SHIELD MY EYES. It's about stupid, vapid stereotypes being used as a marketing / design trope for the continued alienating of a whooole gender in an industry that's still ripe with stereotype and diversity issues.

It's ok that you like boobs. It's ok that you like characters who are weapons with gravity-defying proportions to wear bikinis while in combat. It's far less OK that a whole industry thinks it's you that it must cater to.

This is where I stand. I totally get if it bothers people though, and if it turns people off the game entirely, I'd say that's fair.

Pyra doesn't look 12. It is a simplistic art style and no one who watches/reads manga or anime would assume this, that group going by story and art style would be the chief targeted demographic for this game.

I think those roles are tied to blades.

The impression I get is that they took the class customization of X and made it way the hell easier for people to understand right from the jump. I loved working on my Infinite Overdrive build, but even for someone that already put in well over a hundred hours into X at that point, I still needed to look up a few guides to even know where to start with it. The way they're approaching it in this game is a lot more inclusive.

Pyra's design really isn't my cup of tea but she doesn't look (and seemingly isn't characterized as a) 12 years old. Just generic anime girl design tbh.

It's bad and still on the jailbaity side but it's not Idea Factory/Compile Heart level of bad and clearly not meant to be loli pandering. At this point I've accepted that nearly every modern JRPG, even the biggest ones, will feature some sort of sexual pandering unfortunately.

On a totally different note I'm really happy we get a playable (I'm assuming you can still switch party leaders) Nopon again. Hopefully he's more Riki than Tatsu.

Man, I was a little bummed about no character customization, but hearing a this talk about no armor customization is killing me. The art style of some characters is bad enough, but not being able to cover that mug up with a helmet or something is probably a deal breaker.

Just moved this to a big fat maybe.

There are no changes in the in game model when you equip new weapons/armor? Huge bummer if true.

I hate that one of my favorite game series' has really, really, reaaallly, stupid outfits for some of its women. So Im with you. I don't necessarily disregard it, I love the games too much, but yeah it doesn't really get better.

I was definitely 'proud' of Nintendo for removing the really-silly "breast slider" in XBX and covering up some of the more revealing outfits on its younger cast. Yikes.

The only problem with Pyra is her boobs are way too big design wise. I dont mind her outfit otherwise.

I could definitely get behind this. I'm fine to disregard her outfit, but goddamn her tits stick out so much... in a game as big as Xenoblade, the fact her tits are the first thing you notice about her is really silly.

You already made it a stereotype though. "Seemingly underage", "part-time escort"...c'mon now. You already made assumptions and judged based on those.

And it doesn't really matter if there is relevance or not in the other games. They still are worse offenders and there's really no huge outcry over those. Developers can just skip those scenes and just hint that they did the do, you know. It won't really change the game.

Holy logical fallacy! So what you're saying it's that you should never criticise a game for something unless you criticised all the games (that you might be heard of or don't interest you) guilty of the same thing.

I'm as disappointed in Pyra's clothing as I was with a certain Xenoblade Chronicles character's armor getting more and more revealing as it got more powerful. It's just like.... really? C'mon game. You don't need that. Hopefully Pyra's character makes up for it.

I'm fine with Pyras design. Designs like that are common place in jrpgs. I can certainly understand people having problems with it though.

Anyway, super excited for the game. Waiting for Amazon to put up the CE.
