I think I'll roam around the 5th world and try to get the last 10 or so Pagies to get to the final boss.

Judging by my avatar you would think I have played this yet. I actually haven't as I've been dealing with some small business launch craziness that has kept me from gaming for a solid 2-3 months.

I am curious how other big Rare fans that loved Banjo, etc. feel about this game. I have it purchased and was hoping to dive into it sometime soon.

What I loved about the Banjo games:

- Great characters with fun abilities
- Worlds were fun to explore and slowly make progress getting everything
- Great music (I actually purchased this a long while back and LOVE IT (Banjo Kazooie Vinyl Soundtrack but you'll have to hit ebay for it now I believe.

I'd be really surprised if you didn't enjoy this if you were really into the original Banjo & Kazooie games.

The moves are & abilities are fun and pretty varied. I'd say the characters are a bit less memorable than in the orignal games, but they are still decent.

I've only played 4 of the 5 worlds but they've all been interesting and a good size with plenty to do.

Just made it to the final boss!
Will beat him later tonight then finish up King's Quest '15 and then move onto something else.

All in all I enjoyed it, and while it has its flaws it is overall a charming and well crafted paltformer.

EDIT: Ugh Phase 2 and final phase of the final boss is a pain in the ass. A needless pain :/

What are the free dlc that backers will get?
Nothing's yet been announced... but I wouldn't get your hopes up for much more than character skins or similar.

Hopefully Playtonic will break their silence and let us have another update shortly, though I'm guessing that we won't hear anything until the promised patch arrives.

Any new word on the patch that will fix camera and minigame issues? I finally was able to get a discounted digital copy, yay! I want to wait till that patch is out to play though.

Nothing since the Kickstarter update on 2 May, which promised

You can expect a more detailed breakdown of the game update in the coming weeks, as we continue to tinker around with the coding furnace.

My favourite game of all time is Banjo Kazooie and I did not like this game. It copied everything from Banjo except the charm and fun. The levels are big and boring and the powers and transformations are mostly dumb.

Thanks! Hopefully they can share some irons from their coding furnace soon...!

Ask and I shall receive, I suppose!

In the months since launch we’ve been hard at work on Yooka-Laylee’s first big game update, and we’re pleased to confirm that once our test team is done trying to break it, it will be deploying later this month on PC, followed shortly after on consoles.

This rather plump update will add all manner of exciting gubbins, including the optional ability to skip dialogue faster, bypass cutscenes or reduce those pesky gibberish voices (which should please speedrunners), plus a brand new optional camera mode that gives players full control of where it’s pointed.

We’ve paid close attention to your feedback and hopefully the additions we’ve cooked up will make Yooka-Laylee an even more enjoyable experience, whether you’re playing for the first time or reptile rolling in for a second playthrough.

The Yooka-Laylee Spit ‘n’ Polish Update

Brand new pause menu music
New optional camera mode with minimal assist
Pagies have added signposts to Hivory Towers to help guide players to new worlds
Design tweaks to all arcade games
Speed improvement to scrolling through Totals Menu
New option for shorter ‘gibberish’ voice sound FX
New speech volume option
New ability to speed through dialogue by holding Y
Cut-scenes can now be skipped with Y
New moves section added to pause menu, with image guide
Camera design improvements throughout game (less scripted cameras, door cams now appear behind player etc)
Restart option added in the pause menu during arcade games and Kartos challenges
‘Sonar-able’ objects now have more clear visual identity
Laser move no longer requires player to crouch
Minecart control improvements and new visual effects
Transformation control improvements
Improved first-person aiming controls
New first-person aiming control options added
Improved flying controls
When transformed, collecting butterflies now restores energy
Hunter tonic now tracks the last 30 Quills and Casino Tokens, in addition to the Health and Power Extenders. It will also whistle at the location of the closest rare collectable.
Health UI is now always visible when low
Design tweaks in various areas (Black Hole in One, Gloomy Gem Grotto etc)
New icons added for keyboard/mouse controls
Improved Rampo boss fight
Added PC Display Settings to the in-game pause menu
Performance improvements
Audio improvements

We know a lot of Nintendo fans have been waiting patiently for news on the Nintendo Switch version of Yooka-Laylee. To thank you for your support, here’s a glimpse at what a Lizard and Bat look like between a pair of Joy-Cons:

That's an amazing update. Just a shame I've already completed it. People playing this for the first time on Switch will be getting a FAR improved game.

No mention of bug fixes, though. FFS. My wait for the final Pagie lingers on....

I had a feeling that we'd be seeing something shortly when a new "protected" post showed up on Playtonic's website yesterday. Good to see that they're finally breaking silence!

Are you thinking here of the Cashino bug? Playtonic confirmed a while ago that it's being fixed here, though not if the fix will apply retrospectively. There's also a general comment in this update about bug fixes, just without a specific list of fixes.

Weird getting updates like these for a single player game. Makes me want to hold off on finishing it until more updates come (like the 64 bit filter any time now).

Was enjoying this for a bit, I don't particularly like the whole open world platformer format, it's more like a playground with mini challenges, I guess i prefer things a bit more linear like donkey kongs

I got the game a few days ago. Seems fine. Some aspects of it work better than others, but the overall play mechanics are pretty solid. Feels good to play a 3d platformer in the vein of early 3d platformers again, though the style certainly shows its age.

I did lose interest and drop it, partially because the design issues added up and just sucked the fun out for me, but I think this may well remedy those and make me get into it again.

Especially the arcade games. Fuck going through those for some damn pagies.

My local Mediamarkt is selling the boxed version for €25. Seems like a bargain? I was tempted but i'll wait until impressions post patch i think, hopefully soon.

I finished this game about two weeks ago but I don't think I ever replied in this thread beyond initial thoughts. That says a lot about what I think of this game since if it was as good as Banjo I would have stayed up nights and gotten it done in the first couple days after release. (instead I went and played Persona 5 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe forever)

I didn't even try to 100% this beyond getting to the credits since so many of the challenges were tedious and filled with bad, broken game design. That felt almost sinful of me to say. Banjo-Kazooie is in my top 5 games of all time, I have high regards for Tooie and Nuts & Bolts, and Rare was like the rockstar developer of my childhood.

The reviews were right, the game is a 6/10ish product. It does have its moments where it really tries to recapture that Banjo magic, but that was my own nostalgia filling in the gaps rather than Yooka-Laylee being worthy of it.

I don't want Playtonic to give up on this since I really really want these kinds of games to come back... but man they need to go back to the drawing board on EVERYTHING with this.

I really liked the game at first, but two things caused me to shelve it:

1. The minecart sections were horrid. Up until that point I was doing my best to collect every pagie. Not wanting to ride in Kartos anymore killed my motivation to collect every one, which in turn killed my motivation to keep playing.

2. The casino level was obnoxiously big. Most of the levels were probably too big, but the casino specifically was the hair that broke the camel's back. Up until that point I was also working hard to collect every feather, but after flying around the level it just seemed daunting to have to explore it all.

I hope there is a sequel that fixes these problems. If so, I'm there day one.

Picked this up for $20 because I was in the mood for a 3D platformer. Didn't really like the Banjo games that much but for some reason I'm digging this. It's flawed but I'm having fun.

My question is, do you guys envision the patch making this a better game, or were the technical issues not the biggest problem?

Honestly, you either like the old school DK64/Banjo Collectathon type games or you don't. Games that follow this design (like Yooka) aren't bad by design, they just might not be everyone's cup of tea. If you liked DK64 and games like it, you'll love this game.

As far as technical issues, been playing on a PS4 Pro, and really the only technical issue i've had now and then is the camera getting in the way. But if youve played the previously mentioned games, you know that you just can move it manually. This new patch coming soon will have a new optional camera mode that supposedly addresses this issue, so even that will no longer be an issue.

As an impatient backer who's still waiting for my Switch copy of the game with a PC copy my rig can barely play at the shittiest settings, I *almost* grabbed a copy for PS4 today with a loyalty discount of 50% off I have at a mom & pop shop. I changed my mind when I saw/read that the patch isn't out yet.

I guess on the bright side, the Switch version should have all of the patch improvements on day one; whenever the fuck day one is.

Hurdle Hijinx and Up N Nova high score pagies along with that one pagie in Hivory Towers with the lasers (you know the one) are keeping me from the platinum. Truly exercises of pure frustration and devoid of fun

The new patch is out (at least for PC). The new camera mode is definitely an improvement, as are the many other quality of life additions (like being able to turn the voices down).

Awesome! This is what I was most concerned about and waiting on before jumping in.

Did they add anything to the patch list beyond what they originally said would be in there?

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
That's a lot of patch notes.

I've been waiting for the patch before venturing back into the game so kudos for this to Playtonic.

Not that I'm aware of. The only thing I still want at this point is the orchestrated music but they're remaining irritatingly coy with that.

The big thing with the camera mode is that it stays where you move it and doesn't go crazy. It's a small change but really, really makes a difference.

Kinda disappointed there's no N64 shader yet.

That was the one option i was excited for when i first saw the kickstarter.

Thanks man. That sounds huge to me as someone very sensitive to cameras in 3D games. Are the default camera angles pretty decent when the camera isn't going crazy?

BTW, like you I am really psyched for the orchestrated music, so hopefully they announce a timeframe for it soon.
