Ys: The Oath in Felghana (PC/Steam) |OT|

I just hope people don't get turned off by the game because you don't play as Adol. The game is extremely fun so don't let that small fact turn you off to Origins.

Why would anyone care about this? Adol has no personality at all, he's just a bland anime dude with red hair.

Bu... bu... bu... I can't play as Ys, man...
I'd like to know how you'd play as Ys anyway. Do you control a murdering island that flies around slamming onto cities or something?
hmmm my gtx 460 can't seem to understand 'fixed aspect ratio' =/

hmmmm.
They may be misreporting the resolution, as 1400x1050 is what I use and it's correct. I tried a custom one for 16:9 but the GeForce just screws it up.

Alternatively: Update your drivers.

Try switching the fixed ratio method from Display to GPU in the nvidia control panel.
Personnaly, I keep the game at its native resolution of 1024x768 and configure my GPU so that it will stretch but keep the aspect ratio intact. It has worked flawlessly.

After Ys II even that wouldn't apply. I wonder how many games let you play as a land mass?

You'd be surprised. That sentiment seems a lot more common that I'd have expected from fans of the series, comparing it to playing Zelda without Link.

Was pretty fun to make. :D

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Playing on hard mode is sweet. There are parts of boss battles where you're like "OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD DON'T HIT ME" and you clench your butt cheeks because that's how your body automatically responds to great games.

That's how it was for me on Normal. I can't even imagine doing this on Hard. I pretty much won most of the boss fights one/a few hits away from death.

Okay, so i am playing Hard Mode.

Guilen: (Fire Dragon) - If he/she head-butts you after coming out of the lava pit, it goes right back into the pit to do it again. If you are good at dodging it, it wont be a problem.

Gyalva: (Fire Bird) - He/She does not come down to your level anymore. There are now a top and bottom row of tiles as well. Prepare for a long ugly fight. At least it was for me. Dodging its attacks is no problem, but the wind attack does so little damage. Maybe I am doing it wrong.

Question: How do you get the legacy pervert achievement? I was told I had to do something while i escorted Elena back from the docks.

Quoting Wyrdwad's response from the Steam forum because I like his explanation best:

Wyrdwad said:
Legacy Pervert... well, here's a hint. This is a rather perverted easter egg you can get during an escort mission in newer versions of Ys I:

http://www.ysutopia.net/projects/yscomplete/bonus/fmeasure.htm

Try applying that to Felghana, and you might just get the Legacy Pervert achievement. ;)

I literally just got this.

Basically, when you escort her from the docks, go to the save point right in front of Redmont. Now, get Elena between the save point and the cliff to the left so she's not able to move. And just like... run into her.

Which is how I molest most girls, come to think of it.

Wow, that's so specific. I've already missed it on this playthrough then.

So when the heck does one escort
Christof?
. I never even knew we could. Also, I noticed that I didn't get a 1/6 for escorting Elena on Normal :( Still at 0/6. Was this one of the problematic Achievements the update fixed? I assume the pikkards one, too, because I never got that one, either, and I got all four leaves.

Yeah, that escort one was messed up and apparently didn't register if you did certain things. Don't remember when the other escort quest is. Sometime before you hit up Valestein castle. Probably available around the time you go deeper in the mines and into the mountains.

Not sure about the pikkard one, it worked for me, but I probably did it after the patch. You did give the leaves to the kid right?

You escort Christof by going to Valestein post beating Illburn Ruins. Then you go right outside Illburn (warp to entrance) and there he is. Then escort him back to Valestein.

Oh geez, I don't remember having this much trouble with the final boss in the PSP version. I can't even get him below 5000 HP, and that's WITH the necklace that fills your life after it empties. Ugh.

I simply cannot aim these fireballs worth a crap in this version of the game.

So I refuse to ever even try and attempt the final boss until I am max level (I want to finish it off with a bang). I love grinding, but this shit is pretty damn slow.

Any tips beyond just farming those assholes outside of the final savepoint?

I got to level 53 before trying it again and was able to beat the final boss that time. IDK if I'ma bother grinding to 60 or not for the achievement. That will take a long time.

You really don't need to be max level; Galbalan is eminently beatable at 50.

I keep forgetting about the terrible save state positions in game. It's such a long run and if you die towards the end, bam, right from the start. Kind of a pain.

I'm taking a heck of a long time on this with Very Easy and I blame my placid nature but I don't care. I felt that this was the game to actually be a bit serious about achievements.

I'm pretty close to beating the game on Easy. I kind of regret not playing on Normal now, since the game on Easy has been, for the most part, a pushover.

Gyalva really got to me on Normal mode, though. I'll definitely have to go back on Normal and focus on leveling up more next time. I hate feeling like I might have cheated myself out of something better.

Also, I can't wait to hear from XSEED how this game has done. I can think of few things I want more than for this game to do well and for more Japanese games to find their way onto Steam.

Use the Wing Talisman if you feel you are gonna die.

How long did it take you?

I'm considering getting this, but torn on whether to play it on PC or my PSP.

Makes no difference if you don't care about frame and pixel counting.

One is better for bigger screens, the other is portable. Which one gives you more advantages? Answer this and get that version (or double dip, if you can). =)

Managed to kill off the ice dragon on hard. What a fuckin' pain in the ass.

Nightmare is even MORE fun. As far as bosses that were an extreme pain on that difficulty, I'd probably include that boss, Gyalva, and Guilen. And of course, Galbalan.

Also noticed that Andrew Dice (SpaceDrake?) was in the Special Thanks of the credits. Wonder why!

Istersiva (Hard Mode) - is still easy as hell. i think it moves a bit faster when it has its shield up, but thats about it.

Ligaty (Hard Mode) - easy, however....I had the best sword available at the time. Might be a different story in the boss rush mode.

Holy fuck, you got to keep on your toes when he has 40% life left.

I think i know where my Nightmare run might end.
