Fuck yes! I had been hoping for this. I owned neither a (3)DS or an iPhone so this is my chance to play 999
Glad I managed to avoid spoilers so far

They're adventure-style games and the order doesn't matter too much.
Pretty sure this remake and that fanfic over the summer are to fund the third game, right?
Hell no. Order is 1000% important.
Hardly edgy when the general consensus is that ZTD is pretty bad.
Outside of a few characters the stories are pretty much independent.
The VLR fanfic was years ago though.
ZTD was the true sequel we deserved

PLEASE DON'T LISTEN TO THIS PERSON.
Playing VLR before 999 will ruin both games for you. Please don't.

I don't think that's the consensus at all. I know a portion of people think that but mostly the game was well received.

ZTD is in a really weird place where the average person likes it but the second you mention "what about ___ from VLR??" they legit have no idea what you're talking about because it's been so long since they last played it. It's really hard to defend it as a decent sequel if you even look at just one character being removed-- it invalidated so much of the second game by simply ignoring plot threads it said it'd address.
999 is bad so it's not like you're ruining much by skipping it.

Wish enhanced 999 was coming to 3DS - would be the definitive edition.
Still not sure how I feel about voice acting for it either.
No 3ds? wow
I'm not gonna agree with 999 being bad, but I will agree with the sentiment of VLR being a great standalone story. Personally my enjoyment of that game's story didn't have much to do with callbacks and connections to 999. Zero Time on the otherhand doesn't work well as a standalone or a sequel.999 is bad so it's not like you're ruining much by skipping it.
The fuck. This is terrible advice.
The order is 999 -> Virtue's Last Reward -> Cry
So, is this twist everyone is talking about worth playing the game on DS? Or should I just wait for the Vita version?

wait, what is this fanfic you speak of? Worth checking out?
Well, it may also be that Aksys isn't handling the Steam release for ZTD. So I guess it'd all comes down to what Spike Chunsoft says.

Was ZTD really that bad? I mean, I found it boring enough that I couldn't finish it, but does it get that much worse?

I've never played these games. What order should they be played in? What type of game is this?
Neat. It's a shame they didn't keep the same artist for ZTD.
Visual novel puzzle games.
The only true order is as follows:
999 -> 999 -> 999 -> 999 -> 999 -> VLR -> ZTD
You're the last person I'm going to take seriously when it comes to Zero Escape opinions. It's awful, Uchikoshi got exposed a hack. Dropped plotpoints for no reason, shitty characterization, awful twists, etc.
It uses the DS very cleverly but the same idea can be done in other ways. DS version has ton of problems and is kind of annoying to get through.
