Prisoners > Sicario > Arrival > Enemy for me, but I've enjoyed them all to different extents. Still need to check out Incendies.

So who's handling the primary and spoiler OT's?

I'm not asking so I can do it myself, I'm just asking because I want to make sure that the OT title is the very obvious:

Blade Runner 2049 |OT| Do Androids Dream of Electric Boogaloo?

See the film for yourself and make your own decision on how you feel about it. Don't try to decide how you're gonna feel about the film based on a percentage on a website before you've actually seen it. That's silly.

I haven't booked yet, I'm not even sure which members of my family will want to go with me, and if booking will be necessary given that I'm very flexible about time of day.

Most of us have critics whose opinions we respect, particularly because we've found them to be good guides to other films. This is when I consult the likes of Peter Bradshaw and Mark Kermode, for instance. The latter is particularly helpful to me because he delivers his opinions on camera in dialogue with a non-specialist interlocutor rather than in a polished essay.

No, I'm absolutely with you. I'm the same way. I'm simply responding to the idea that there's any cause for concern or that anything has changed. A few posters on the last page were freaking out that the movie might not be a "masterpiece" and just be "very good" which is kind of silly.

Even with critics you respect and trust and often line up with your opinion, it’s best not to assume. Like I have my favorites like Walter Chaw and Kermode, but they’re expectation setters for going into a movie, not deciding how I’ll feel about a movie

You're being hyperbolic. There's quite a bit of difference between 'somewhat disappointed' and 'freaking out'. There's nothing wrong at being disappointed with news, especially if it's summised with the same principles you've been touting about not getting overlyhyped and maintaining some perspective.

Oh damn didn't see that it dipped to 93, but rose back to 94.

Are we not expecting a big release of reviews until opening night?

After the events of this week and stuff in my personal life I'm sort of realizing that I have a lot riding on my enjoyment of this movie. It's funny how things like this give us a chance to escape and get our minds off of our present situation. I was very happy to hear that Blade Runner 2049 is nearly 3 hours. It's also nice to have something to look forward to when life is being a shit sandwich

Gizmodo just published a story that spoils something from the movie in the fuckin title!

I got the alert randomly on my phone because of Google alerts. I don't even visit gizmodo. Fuck.

Ah, social media, the internet, and spoilers.

My greatest movie experience was Jurassic Park. I was 14, the only thing I knew about the movie was that it was from Spielberg and that it was about dinosaurs. And that was all I needed to know.

I miss those simpler times.

There's gonna be an art book releasing Friday.

If this movie is suppose to be a visual masterpiece than this will be a no brainer purchase.

Finally. Been trying to order this from Amazon for weeks but they kept shuffling it around.

Also ordered the OST this morning too.

Gonna try again but has anybody seen a link for the new trailer with review quotes in it? I saw it last night during The Gifted but can't see it anywhere online

Nvm found it. Hype!

Uh what the fuck. This has a big spoiler since it features a certain character appearing from the previous film we haven't seen yet.

I've got some required reading for anyone checking out the original for the first time this week, or just any fans of the original film. Really fucking excellent piece.

This Future Looks Familiar: Watching Blade Runner in 2017

Nobody tells you about that part, when you tell them you’re about to watch Blade Runner for the first time. They tell you about all the different versions, and they tell you about the ambiguity of the ending, and they tell you about the fact that all the effects are practical effects. But nobody tells you about the part where a cop aims a loaded firearm into a crowd of people and tries to decide whether it’s worth risking their lives in order to murder an escaped slave.

So how good or bad are we expecting this to do at the box office? You think the great reviews will help it?

Based on some of the good and bad reviews for it, I think it will have a good opening weekend and then fall off a massive cliff in the next. If it's as "boring" as some of these reviews say it is, that and its 2 and a half hour running time won't make a lasting impression.

Man do y’all have a problem with selective reading. I saw “boring” tossed out in exactly one review, and I read through a decent number of these.

So far Denis Villeneuve hasn't disappointed, I really loved Arrival.

Really hyped for the movie and looking forward to what he can bring to the world of Blade Runner.

You mean Gaff?

The word "spoiler" seems to be infinitely expandable. Now cast members and characters who were officially announced months ago are called spoilers. Even trailers are called spoilers.

Agreed. “In the third act it’s revealed that everyone left alive on earth is a replicant” (not a real spoiler) would be a spoiler. A cameo that was reported on months in advance AND is featured in the marketing: not a fucking spoiler.

I almost stopped reading after that and was about to type up a post of pure rage lol

Mark Kermode in a brief solo piece here talks about a documentary he did about Blade Runner and, more recently, a live event in which he had both Ridley Scott and Denis Villeneuve on stage arguing over whether Deckard is a replicant.

Kermode says in advance that he isn't giving any spoilers away, but I have no way of predicting whether somebody reading this will think the small bit of footage from the new film shown here might be regarded as a "spoiler." Use your common sense.

How It Should Have Ended have just released a brief and highly irreverent recap of the original film for those who either haven't got time for the whole film, or just fancy watching the film dubbed with silly voices and lots of exposition. As a bonus, they changed the rapey bit to remove the rapiness.

https://youtu.be/fVwe9xXBdHQ

Here is a YouTube copy of On the Edge of Blade Runner, Kermode's 2000 documentary about the film.

https://youtu.be/-jbmGoZREns (52 min approx)

Edit: after watching that I can highly recommend it. There are interviews with several main production members including Ridley Scott, both the writers Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, Daryl Hannah, Joe Turkel, James Hong and Rutger Hauer, and several of the special effects people. There is also a cut scene in the hospital where Deckard is warned by Holden that the androids are "like us." And there are recollections of Philip K Dick, particularly from Fancher who originated the project.

Even though I bought Blade Runner in 4K (and it's like the 4th time I've bought Blade Runner) I want a Blade Runner + Blade Runner 2049 4K set, and I'd buy it at full retail!

All they have to do is include Dangerous Days in 1080p instead of 480p.

I can drea.

I really that director, just really didn't like the Arrival, so i'm a little nervous for this one. I don't want to follow the hype !

Haha what the? This is some selective reading. 95% of the reviews are glowing and none of those call it boring.

When the vast vast majority call it not boring and a few stragglers call it boring...that means it is almost certainly not going to be seen as boring.

Tempted to go and see this tbh, I don't usually go to the cinema any-more other than to watch James Bond and Quentin Tarantino films.

So, how should i watch this Movie, in 2K 2D or IMAX 3D?
These seem to be the only possiblities in Berlin... :-(
Haven't found one, who does original Language 2D and 4K...
Does anybody know, which one has a 4K projection here in Berlin?
Which one would you watch?

Ugh the imax screening for this is 3d only at my place.

Deakins says the film was designed for widescreen without 3D in mind, so I think unless you REALLY want the IMAX screen/sound, there's little point in doing that anyway. I'm watching it in the biggest screen here with Atmos. Fuck IMAX 3D conversions. :)

I would love to, but not german dubbed...
And we have the biggest atmos Sound in europe @ the Zoopalast!!! But only in German, i could rage beyond belief here.
Seriously considering driving to Eindhoven to watch it in a Dolby Cinema...
