I'm willing to bet 95% of COD players don't even know what dedicated servers are. Not saying they should, i just don't think they do.
Been there. Done that.
I asked the Infinity Ward community manager on Twitter last week. Got no reply.
I'm really over how silent Sony have been about their online, I know people who are picking up Xbox's rather than PS4's because of dedicated servers.
Sony, this is fucking important get your act together on this, wave those Rackspace servers in peoples faces... announce any game can have access to dedicated servers if they request it... SOMETHING
EDIT: To say something on topic, I'm pretty sure Dan Amarich has heavily hinted at more platforms having dedi servers, I'd bet my left nut PS4 is one of them.

They are still working with Sony to rent servers but as of right now the answer is no. That's why I'm getting the xbone version.
Can you provide a source for this information?
He doesn't know what he's talking about. 3rd-party developers/publishers are responsible for the servers of their own games, not the platform holder.

This.
Mark Rubin has said something along the lines of 'we're not talking about other platforms right now' which means dedis will be on PS4 but they can't talk about it for marketing/business reasons, or they are still working out the details of PS4 dedis.
If they had no dedis on PS4, they would just come out and say it instead of dancing around the question with 'we're not talking about it now'.
Is Microsoft paying them to be silent for a certain period of time? Surely Infinity Ward knows the answer to this question right now.
Well, it looks like Driveclub will have dedicated servers... I guess that's something lolI'm really over how silent Sony have been about their online, I know people who are picking up Xbox's rather than PS4's because of dedicated servers.

So I am going to expose my self as less then brilliant in this case but what are the advantages to dedicated servers beyond eliminating the bullshit that is "host advantage" and "lag compensation" and if IW doesn't drastically improve their netcode by exponential amounts what good would dedicated servers do anyhow? They dont.
Its just something ppl can add to list wars.

While I certainly dont believe that Sony will be covering the cost of servers for 3rd party games it would in fact behoove them to leave a generous amount of server space available to rent to those 3rd party devs who lack the infrastructure to host their games online content them selves. The Rackspace servers are likely for PSN & Sony's 1st & 2nd Party games. Why would Sony pay for the servers of a third party game (unless it's part of a 3rd-party exclusive agreement)?
I think dedi's will be available for the PS4, but I don't think you can say this authoritatively.
"I can't talk about it yet!" Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin teased when quizzed on the subject by Eurogamer at the Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer reveal event in Los Angeles today.

Surprise surprise the only version being talked about is the MS version. MS goes out of their way to make it appear Call of Duty is a MS franchise.
Notice the first time you will ever see the game running on non MS hardware is when it has gone retail. Does that mean the other versions are incomplete or further behind? Lol no.
Well there's the wii u version.... I don't know what they are going to do about dedicated servers.
lolThe Wii U version could probably get by with one dedicated server, no plural required.

They are already "testing" dedicated servers right now on black ops 2 on ps3(not that it matters, game is broken at it's core) i tested it myself with a program that gets the ip's of the host's and every time i connect to a dedicated server.
So, i would be seriously amazed if they don't run them for ps4. this dude basically did the same thing as me.

History has shown that Infinity Ward CoD's have been solid on PS3, also fine for the most on PC minus dedicated servers missing in MW2.
Wii versions of MW and MW3 were by Treyarch, and as far as I've heard, they have always been solid ports.
It won't matter if they use crap lag comp again. This has been gone over in depth that dedicated servers can be just as bad as P2P if netcode is crap.
PC players don't buy COD if there aren't dedicated servers, console players do.
PC has had dedicated servers for multiplayer since MW3.
I think Sony may do something where the top 5 most played mutliplayer games get Dedicated servers and others do not. Maybe their own games that are past 5 will get some dedicated servers.

That is not a good way. You either guarantee or you don't. Don't a developer will spend man power on the offset to reach the top x amount place to get dedicated servers vs optimizing their p2p connection or run their servers.
This. They SHOULD help, but if the netcode is absolute garbage (e.g. BO2) it'll be far from a magic bullet. It won't matter if they use crap lag comp again. This has been gone over in depth that dedicated servers can be just as bad as P2P if netcode is crap.
I don't know how many times this needs to be repeated in this thread. 3rd-party developers/publishers are responsible for the servers of their own games, not the platform holder. Sony is only responsible for the servers for PSN and their own 1st & 2nd party games.

Except Microsoft is offering another route for developers, and that might change expectations.

But it's not free. Windows Azure is just another cloud service that they rent servers from But if MS is going to make Windows Azure really cheap for 3rd-party video game developers/publishers, it's only a matter of time (if they're not already doing it) before Google, Amazon, IBM, Rackspace, & etc. do the same thing. They not gonna allow MS to get all that business for themselves.
I think it is more that they're trying to negotiate a deal with Sony.Fans and the press have been asking daily and are being ignored. This is the closest we've gotten: https://twitter.com/ATVIAssist/status/375443598382485504
This has got to be Activision in contract with Microsoft to not discuss dedicated servers for a set time. Otherwise I imagine they'd be telling fans to go bother Sony so they weren't taking all the heat.
PC community also rents server from legit providers or run their own server if server clients are available.

Well, I doubt they'll be able to give all the games dedicated servers. It would only be for the top 5 games. The more people playing would allow for dedicated servers. If no one is playing a game why have them?
