Once again, Jiggy comes through. I do agree that this week is nowhere near as bad as some of the earlier weeks. In the first few weeks of updates, we'd be begging for weeks like this. Not to say that this was a particularly good week, but it wasn't terribly disappointing, either.

It did give we Mother fans a lot to ruminate over....

I wonder if/when they'll announce Mega Man.

Not this Monday, but the Monday after. (The 19th)

Why? Because Sunday the 18th is the Rockman 20th Anniversary event being held by Capcom in Tokyo! :O

we should be getting more complex stages
not simple platform levels these could have been done with the stage editor
Looking at the stages shown so far, it appears the developers are making them all 'final smash' friendly.

stage14_071015a-l.jpg

New Pork City is very 'final smash' friendly. There are no walls or narrow areas. Any 'final smash' can work and be effective in this level.

temple.jpg

Hyrule Temple on the other hand, features isolated and narrow areas. It's easy to see how some 'final smashes' would not be very effective in this level.

I was looking at the Stage Builder, and I was wondering if the "building blocks" we use will have preset textures on them or if we can choose our own colors/textures of the objects we place.

I have an awesome idea for a Snow Wood Boarding House stage with the Snow Wood Boarding House music in the background, and want to try and get it as close as possible to the real thing in Earthbound.

I have a feeling that there will be various textures to choose from, but I don't think we'll be able to make our own. That would be nice, though.

And your Snow Wood Boarding School idea is excellent and I'd love to see it if/when you actually make it.

I'm going to try to make Saturn Valley. Maybe Threed or Master Belch's Base.

Yeah. I am going to need some Green, Brown, and White colored "blocks" to make it work.

I also had an idea for an Earthbound stage. Lost Underworld, there are palm trees, geysers(ocassional red geyser that restores health) and the occasional dinosaur foot coming down to crush people. If you press pause in the middle of the battle, it zooms out and the fighters are extra tiny like in Earthbound.

The problem is that your limited to what you can do

the assets they give you to make the level with seem to be very simple shapes like squares and triangles

Do you see the little orange sliver? That's how little that piece adds to the bar. There's more than enough room for a stage you want. I honestly do prefer the platform approach. I don't see people complaining that all the stages in Street Fighter are flat with a different background.

I just hope we can have our own colored blocks and such. In the pics you posted the bottom pic has sand-textured blocks. I wonder if we are going to be stuck with preset textures, or there is a custom texture which is basically your choice of a color from a color palette ala "Custom Colors" in Microsoft Paint.

You have many good ideas.

My idea for Master Belch's Base was for it to have a conveyor belt (if we can make those in the stage editor...) with Mr. Saturns working the Fly Honey assembly line. :D

As for the Threed level, I was thinking of having it take place on top of the Boogey Tent...

Yeah. My Lost Underworld stage unfortunatley would have to be a premade stage by the development team, since dynamic geysers and dinosaur feet aren't stage building options. I could, of course, make static blocks to look like geysers and dinosaur feet, but they would be stationary and not move.

This is a really interesting observation, however with the 'stage builder' couldn't we build stages with super narrow areas if we wanted to? (In fact, the very scary ruins stage that was already shown looks HORRIBLE for final smashes. Where would Fox's tank even fit???)

I wonder how this will work out.

They need Fourside, but have the Mani Mani Statue appear from time-to-time (maybe carried by Carpainter or Monotoli) and turn everything into Moonside. In Moonside, the Fire Hydrants and Street Signs come alive and you need to use Warp Man to reach parts blocked off by invisible walls, especially if you want to break Mani Mani and restore Fourside to normal.

:(

That would be awesome.

Dalaam Stage: Have one really tall tower(where the Mu Training took place) with a ladder and smaller towers flanking it

That would be an incredibly cool Subspace Emissary level. The Mani-Mani Statue would have to be carried by Monotoli, though, since the Statue had already left Carpainter's possession by the time it had reached Fourside. Or maybe have Pokey carry it, since it seems like he was chauffeuring the Mani-Mani Statue around.

Maybe we could have Deep Darkness as a Subspace stage. You'd have to swim through water that steadily damages you. You'd have to find the Hawk Eye to light up the area. If you find the hidden Piggy Nose item, you could sniff out Magic Truffles that would heal your character. Enemies would include Pit Bull Slugs, Demonic Petunias, Big Piles of Puke, Zap Eels, and, of course, Master Barf himself.

Dungeon Man would be a sweet stage, too.

What I want is some Zelda stages from Link to the Past :O

The fact that we got a Zelda 2 stage in Melee was a pleasant surprise. Do something like that again, Sakurai!

All this Earthbound talk is making me want to play it again.

I have only played it twice... and haven't played it in almost 2 years, but I don't want to play it too much. You know, play a game too much and it doesn't have that special, magical feel each time you start a new file and play through the game again.

Perhaps I'll play it this winter break again when I am done with classes. I really want it for Virtual Console though... so I can play it on my 50 inch TV instead of on a ROM on my computer.

more like a Mu training stage where you rip peoples limbs off, destroy their eyes, and stop their hearts.

Think like Mortal Kombat int he smash universe.

I feel bad for people who have only played Earthbound on a ROM. There's nothing like popping the old cartridge into the SNES with the tattered old Player's Guide and Scratch 'n Sniff stickers at your side.

*Hugs Earthbound cartridge*

That's what you get for not deciding to play the game until 2004 :lol

No need for the elongated 'believe' rally cry - it will happen that way.

believe.

I want Mega Man in the game, because the NES and early SNES Mega Man games rule. All of them are awesome, and have great music...

I prefer the classic style Mega Man, but I imagine he will have interchangable costumes into X style and such.

Classic Mega Man would be the best, but knowing Capcom, we'll get the Star Force version. >_<

Mega Man music would be so amazing in Brawl.
More amazing that Mega Man himself!
:D

I would imagine he would be similar to Samus.

Chargable Arm Gun, etc. but his recovery I imagine would be the Dog coming down and springing him up, perhaps? Or that flying suit from Mega Man 6..

I'm thinking he might use Master Weapons as B moves.

The Mega Buster would obviously be his neutral B. Forward B could be...Rolling Cutter? Thunder Beam? Magnet Missile? Recovery move could be Top Spin (just give it a vertical boost) or the Rush Coil (although that would be identical to Sonic's recovery). As for down-B...Napalm Bomb, perhaps, or the slide.

I really hope we get one more Metroid level that has nothing to do with lava. I don't care if it's phazon themed, Chozo Ruins themed, or Brinstar themed, just no more lava.

I also hope we can get a Pokemon level that actually appeared in one of the games.

I had an idea for a Pokemon Level that was simlar to Delfino Plaza, in which a Pidgeot or some other flying Pokemon transported the fighting around Kanto/Johto/Whatever region.

For example, start at Pallet Town fighting, get transported to Mt. Moon, then Saffron City, then Cinnabar Island, etc.

Saw this stage at E4all. Its really an amazingly impressive stage, and the wave twist makes it incredibly fun. At first my reaction was "oh, great. Another raising lava stage" but the fact that waves come from everywhere now and the capsule really make it work. Also the music and graphics are amazing if you are a metroid fan.

Yeah, since seeing some E4All videos I've thought this stage looked like it had a lot more 'fun' potential than the old Metroid stages.

Hey, could I bug you for some brief E4All impressions while you're here?

How much did you enjoy what you played and is there anything about it that you didn't particularly like? What character did you like the most? Stage? Anything else stand out to you after your playtime as particularly noteworthy or memorable?

(I'm about to head off to work but thanks in advance if you take the time to answer :) )

I'm hoping that the other Mother level in Brawl will be something from Mother or Mother 2.

Not that Mother 3 stuff isn't awesome, but I want something I've actually seen before.

Agreed, which is why I could have cared less for the Fire Emblem characters in Melee(and I still have no care for the franchise). I am glad they didn't get a Melee stage.

I would think his recovery would be Rush Jet, and it would work better horizontally than vertically, kinda like DK and Bowser's recoveries. The master weapons I'd like to see used are the Leaf Shield as a down special that would reflect projectiles and harm opponents, like Fox's down special. And they'd have to make his slide be Megaman's down smash attack.

Uh, yeah that's really all I had to add.

As far as Earthbound stages, Threed would be really nice. Zombie Paper, zombies in general, and you could have appearances from the Sky Runner and the Runaway Five. Lots of potential there.

I always pictured Megaman's slide to be his rolling dodge. Has it ever been possible to use his slide offensively?

When equipped with the Charge Kick (Charge Man's weapon in Mega Man 5), Mega Man's slide becomes an attack. The Tengu Blade in Mega Man and Bass (Tengu Man's weapon) also has a similar effect.

I'm still hoping we get Casino Night or Death Egg soon.

But this Sonic seems to be more or less based on Sonic Adventure, so I'm guessing it will be, like, on top of the...uhh....you know, I can't think of one memorable place in the SA games.

crowphoenix said:
I would rather they used a memorable level, even if the character design is new sonic. I'm hoping for green hill.
The thing that makes me think it'll be SA is the fact that they used Live and Learn for his trailer music, which makes me think they'll use it for his level, as well.

But then again, I'm pretty sure they didn't with Snake, so who knows.
