It's possible that this could change when Sony officially launches the PS4 tomorrow, but for now it looks like this is the way it will work. We've reached out to Sony for more details, and will update this article with any information we receive.
fucking killed me at work ;PPolygon: "PS4 can't bring wife to orgasm".
Oh no I will cancel and buy a wii u
Sounds like an oversight. I'm sure it will be fixed in the next update.
Which it barely got a few months ago.
Can we just stop posting shit from Polygon?
You guys should start a thread calling for Polygon bans. Maybe you can create some sort of twitter hashtag and tweet Sony execs.
Yeah... real source please.
There's enough PS4s out there now that someone else should be able to verify.
Yes, please. People need to stop believing their bullshit.

I see the Microsoft FUD machine is in full swing this week.
So we're supposed to ban Polygon for reporting news that many people here would rather not know because they like the console?

Polygon never said it was a big deal. If they break news that deserves commendation. Instead people project their own biases assuming Polygon has an agenda when it makes no sense to have a problem with fact-based reporting like this.
If you pay no attention to their negative stuff about Microsoft and positive about Sony then that's a very convenient way to try and discredit them as biased when negative about Sony. The confirmation bias here is off the frickin' charts, it's quite depressing how few will even attempt critical thinking. Most screaming bias at every chance are among the most biased themselves.
That's honestly what it looks like. There'd be a thread on this no matter who reported it, because there are people out there, gaffers included who care about trophies and how the OS works. So we're supposed to ban Polygon for reporting news that many people here would rather not know because they like the console?
My overall sense of this. Altho if the Ps3 couldnt view friends offline they should be called out.So we're supposed to ban Polygon for reporting news that many people here would rather not know because they like the console?

IMHO, even if this is true and completely factual, get a better source than Polygon.
It makes sense. Syncing gets exponentially more difficult when you have local and cloud data. When you have to figure out which of the two is the most up date and correct, it gets really complicated really quickly. The simple solution is to only have the information on the servers.
This is more of a Google-type solution; where trying to sync local and cloud is how Apple tried to do it. Ask yourself which one you would prefer.
Polygon trying its best to deliver grim news.
Are people sure that there is no 'offline mode' like the PS3 got?
Looking at the Shacknews video, viewing trophies offline works just fine (video at 2:05):

People are giving these companies way too much room to delay and omit features and capabilities down the road. I know the reality is that things get rushed at launch, but for fuck's sake, everything is *supposed* to work day one. And we should hold all of these companies to exactly that.
