Old sonic music is still some of the greatest video game music ever created, that song gave me chills, I really hope they have more of them.

I really REALLY hope Sakurai will include a lot of classic Sonic tunes. Marble Zone, Spring Yard, Chemical Plant, Hidrocity, Flying Battery.... Oh god, Sakurai, I would buy your game for those remixed tracks alone, but please, SHOW A SONIC STAGE ALREADY.

I LOVE Jun Senoue's work in Sonic Adventure one and two awesome he's part of the team

Shame they ditched him from Sonic 360, it shows.

"Live and Learn" has many fans? I thought Open Your Heart would have more.

I am a huge fan of Open Your Heart as well.

My favorite is still Escape from the City.

The piece is pretty sweet.

:D Now, this may be the last vesitiges of the lingering Sonic Fanboy still clinging desperatly to life after the assault of Sonic 360, but hot shit that was a good update. I did not expect that song and I am pleased. It is great. I'm only sorry that I don't have a christmas present for you, Sakurai. If you wait a few months, I may be able to give you some money.

I just realised, this'll probably be played in the SSE (seems to be suited to the Adventure Mode rather than a normal stage, IMO). Angel Island confirmed as a SSE stage and not Sonic's actual stage? C'mon Green Hill, you can do it! :D

Wow. The end of it when the keys come in is great. I can't wait to hear the whole thing.

This is definitely my favorite music update so far. :D
This is the only music update that has ever mattered to me!

Probably because I'm a Sega fanboy at heart.

...

"OPEN YOUR HEART,
IT'S GONNA BE ALRIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Cool double update. Super Sonic rocks. This final smash update brings us that much closer to Zelda's final smash reveal! :D

Also the Sonic 3 music remix is f'n amazing! Much better than the original.

Merry Christmas fellow GAFers! :D

It would be very strange if Sonic's level wasn't green hill or emerald hill but angel island.

What would be even better would be an S3K level where you start out in angel island. Then like the fire emblem level the ground collapses away and you fall into hydrocity. Then after a while water blasts you back up and you're in marble garden.. and so on.

This is actually a really good idea. The transitions are already there, they're already in Sonic 3; all Sakurai would have to do is incorporate them into Brawl. It would be cool if Knuckles hung around the stage, pressing buttons to trigger traps while laughing at the players, a la Sonic 3.

We don't know what kind of licensing terms Sega has with DCT, if any. DCT does own every piece of music in Sonic 1 and 2, which is why they've been rarely used since then. In fact, the Sonic Spinball team had to change the theme song of the game because the developers didn't know that Sega didn't actually own the tune (and at the time, they were unwilling to pay DCT's licensing fee). More pertinent to smash brothers, Sega may or may not have a license with DCT, but that hardly matters since Nintendo would still need a license themselves.

Spinball was back in 1993. It's, uh, been a while. >_>

And I'm not denying that DCT could still own the music, but there's just no evidence either way these days. A bit of Sonic 2's soundtrack cropped up in Mario & Sonic, so apparently Sega's got that now too. But hey, if licensing issues are what keep GHZ out of Brawl...:D

And I'd love for Sonic's stage to be Angel Island transitioning from one zone to another. I've had the same idea kicking around in my head for a while now. Since Sega won't do anything with it, I'd be thrilled if Nintendo did.

Unfortunately, if licensing issues kept Green Hill out of Brawl, it would probably also keep Emerald Hill, Marble, Star Light, Spring Yard, Scrap Brain, and Aquatic Ruin out too... D:

And hey, there was Sonic 2 music in Mario & Sonic? I'm intrigued. Which tracks?

Angel island is a tune that's not been milked dry by remixes, also I think it suits the fighting mood of brawl better then some of the other sonic tunes that may sound better.

*edit* If angel island is sonic's level then, I wonder if we fight on it pre and post bombed and set on fire?

I'm not sure how much of an obstacle licensing would be when Sakurai's involved, considering everything else that Nintendo seems to be letting him do: get Snake in the game, get Sonic in the game, and other lesser characters like Gray Fox and Silver, had the MGS4 music team contribute a composition, gets together orchestras and Latin choruses, brings together the work of 37 composers or possibly more, and so on. I wouldn't be surprised if someone could prove that this was the biggest-budget Nintendo game ever made, so I don't think paying for a song or two or three would be too much of an issue.

Speaking of big budgets, though, this game had better well be more successful in Japan sales-wise than Mario Galaxy has been before it. I want Nintendo to not be afraid to actually put money into game development in the future... >_> Granted, though, that at least in NA Brawl should perform amazingly.

Only thing I want people to understand when clamoring for GHZ or the like is that it likely isn't Sega's call. I'd love to be wrong though, so just hope that I'm either misinformed or have out-of-date information :D

Melee was the best selling Gamecube game in Japan. I think Brawl will at least break a million.

Surely there are teenagers with Wii's in their house who are tired of their family playing Mario Party.

Who knows.. (about the budget)..
During the GameCube era, Pikmin was the game that costed Nintendo the most money (even compared to Melee) to make..maybe it was the engine or the resources or time spent while making it, yet Melee was the game with better visuals, more content and orchestrated soundtrack...

So, maybe they just know how to spend their budget, rather than the usual route that many developers/publishers take which is: story, visuals, sound and then..gameplay.

Pretty sure Melee sold a ton in Japan for the gamecube plus its not like this is a pure hardcore game, this is a huge game for the casual market too....I just hope it gets its own commercial, not the stupid "We would like to play" commercial for the US.

Yeah, I know Brawl has a lot going for it (mostly by being both a casual and hardcore game, unlike Galaxy/Twilight Princess)--and I follow the Sales-Age threads pretty ardently. I'm just saying I really hope it turns out well and proves that every dollar spent in development was worth it, not just 80% of the dollars or whatever. In other words, I want Brawl to do even better than Melee in order to justify the (probable) extra costs that were needed versus Melee.

This too. Please, something else. Please.

Okay, I'm a little late on the update today because of the holidays, but first, I must say:

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays GAF Smash Dojo Thread!

As for today's update: Eh, the track was okay, but I really hope Sonic 2 gets some representation music-wise. Chemical Plant Zone, Aquatic Hill Zone, Mystic Cave Zone, and Oil Ocean Zone would be awesome additions.

Nintendo could run the same exact commercial they ran for SSB with the new gameplay and it would be the best ad of '08. Cheap too.

Rights to Turtles song, check.

Royalty to Movie guy voice, check.

That's it.

I thought that if any game was going to break that trend it'd be Corruption, seeing how it's the least accessible game Nintendo has made for Wii... obviously I underestimated Nintendo's commitment to that tired slogan. But then it's not like they ran the commercial more than once or twice anyways.

I'm not sure how they'd do a 'Wii would like to play' ad for Brawl though, because there's no waggle. Maybe that fact, in addition to the overall importance of Brawl coming out, will convince NOA that it deserves it's own unique commercial. Personally I'm hoping for a sequel to this ad. Mario and Kirby could be having lunch in a restaurant or something, and then I don't know Sonic could come in and break a chair over Mario's head, causing a huge brawl to happen among all the Nintendo characters in the restaurant, or something. The possibilities are endless!

Okay, so I've never once set foot in this thread, but I saw "hawt Sonic music" in the title. How do I listen to it?

Thanks guys! :)

Not my favorite Sonic song by far (I would've gone with Casino Nights, Chemical Plant, or Ice Cap), but still a good one and that's a nice arrangement.

Well... There are shake smashes. Of course, they're optional. And also so minor that it would probably be disingenuous to run an ad based around them, but--

--come to think of it, I don't watch TV at all, so I don't know the answer to this: did they do a "Wii would like to play" commercial for Galaxy even though the waggle's really minor?
