Activision Blizzard fail to get their claws into Nintendo as ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ debuts at No2, behind ‘Wii Fit’ which holds on to No1 for a 5th consecutive week.

Sales of ‘Wii Fit’ are only up by 115 units, but it still manages to outsell Wolverine by 1.7 to 1. However, Activision Blizzard do manage to launch ahead of a resurgent ‘FIFA 09’ (+28%), which moves up one place to No3. Activision’s film tie-in also sits at the top of the Xbox 360 and PS3 charts with 51% of sales on Xbox 360 and 39% on PS3 (the rest on PS2, PSP, Wii, DS and PC). Nintendo’s ‘Wii Play’ (+47%) and ‘Mario Kart Wii’ (+15%) both enjoy upturns in sales alongside an increase in sales of the Wii console. ‘Wii Play’ moves from No8 to No4, while ‘Mario Kart Wii’ is bumped up one place to No6. ‘Resident Evil 5’ (-2%) is proving to have a strong survival instinct, holding its own in the All Formats Top 10 for an 8th week while sticking at No5 for a 3rd consecutive week.

Recent titles from Atari and EA both drop to the bottom half of the All Formats Top 10 with ‘The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena’ (-31%) slipping from No2 to No7 and EA’s ‘The Godfather II’ (-22%) sliding from No3 to No8. Sales of ‘Professor Layton’ are static, but it still finds itself dropping 3 places to No9, while ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ (+5%) is still fighting in the All Formats front line at No10, having never fallen out of the Top 10 since it was launched 25 weeks ago. There are jumps up the chart for ‘Street Fighter IV’ (+97%), up from No25 to No11 and ‘Halo Wars’ (+75%), a re-entry at No25 – both boosted by retailer promotions. The only other new All Formats Top 40 title other than ‘Wolverine’ this week comes from Sony – ‘Singstar Pop Edition’ on PS3 at No32.

Good to see KZ2 and LBP jump up, probably declined in sales though, just a slow week.
Actually, it looks like it was a bigger week: "Sales of ‘Professor Layton’ are static, but it still finds itself dropping 3 places to No9"

5 other versions sell worse then the 360 and PS3 versions and you choose to single out the Wii? :lol

I'm thinking because its the most relevant comparison. I mean thats unless you believe the Wii isn't a home console, or a part of this generation.

It was expected, Wii versions of movie tie-in's never chart.

Which is kinda strange, i always thought mainly casuals buy those and wii did capture the casual market this generation, so one would expect ps2 lvl of dominance for such titles.

In this particular case its clear however, Wolverine has 18+ rating if I remember right.

The DS also has a huge casual userbase. The game appeals to teenage boys, PS3/360 wins that group.

So why the Killzone 2 bump?

word of mouth or new bundles sold. Probably the second one. If the week is so slow and they sell enough bundles plus the regular sales it will have a bump.

Steel Titanium Mappack maybe ?

why should you buy a new game because of new maps? That makes no sense besides if you didn't have the game before you probably never notice the new map pack.

While it's reaallllly tenous, I suppose the argument would be that anything that brings the game to the attention of the audience again could encourage an uptick in sales (new DLC, sequels announced etc.)

I've heard a number of devs saying that DLC releases increase the sales of the full game too... so it can't be that unusual.

It's probably just the extra word of mouth / publicity.

Why not ? if some ppl where on the fence of buying kz2 this month or the next and then see that there is a mappack coming in a few days? That could tip someone over.
Many ppl are aware what is going on in "gaming front" from Mediasites like IGN, gamespot etc but don't have the money to buy 4 games a month.

I'm not saying that this is the sole reason but in combination with retailers dropping price, who knows.

The strong Wii software is still a mystery for me. Let nintedo bath in their money. I'm still waiting for my new high profile Zelda game for the Wii (Zelda Galaxy - BELIVE).

Wii version is shit, that's why. 360 and PS3 versions have actual gameplay and effort put in them. (I didn't know a Wii version existed, until yesterday...)

Rhythm Paradise got a fairly decent start. Hopefully in it's first full week it will kick in as DS games tend to.

Cheapest i've seen it is £21 online (with a £30 RRP) which is a barrier when all the training games came in under £20.

Due to the sales the chart is quite fast this week, not surprised to see the Wii starting to begin it's summer of domination. Hope it can take some of the newer games to the top this year too...

Updated Chart:

Code:
20/03/2009 DS GTA: Chinatown Wars 06-08-10-19-21-29-36
03/11/2006 PSP GTA: Vice City Stories 06-07-10-11-13-18-13-13-11
04/11/2005 PSP GTA: Liberty City Stories 02-04-10-10-09-12-12-12-06

I hope CW starts showing better legs shortly because it seems like it will end selling far less than GTA:VCS and LCS

What completely weirds me out is the "Powered by Unreal" logo in the PS3 version demo. Did they actually port UE3 to the Wii, port down to UE2, or is it a completely different game altogether? Mysteries abound.

Different developers, different games, different rating, different quality

PS3/PC/360 developed by Raven Software (Mature Rating)
Wii/PSP/PS2 developed by Amaze Entertainment (Teen Rating)
DS developed by Griptonite Games (E10+)
