EA’s latest edition to their illustrious racing franchise, ‘Need for Speed: Shift’, debuts at number No1 this week.

Developed by the brilliantly named and newly formed London based Slightly Mad Studios, with the PS3 coming out as the top format with 52% of the sales, while Xbox 360 takes 44% and PC and PSP have the remaining 5%. This means that both Activision Blizzard’s ‘Guitar Hero 5’ and Codemasters’ ‘Colin McRae: Dirt 2’ shift down to No2 and No3 respectively. Eidos’ ‘Batman: Arkham Asylum’ also moves down one place to No4, with Nintendo’s ‘Wii Sports Resort’ relaxing at No5. The only other new entry in the Top 10 this week is Bethesda Softworks’ ‘WET’ which splashes down at No6. EA’s ‘The Beatles: Rock Band’ drops three places to No7 while Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ stays entrenched at No8. Nintendo keeps apace with ‘Wii Fit’ at No9 and EA’s ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10’ rounds off the Top 10.

Second week for Beatles --> from 08 in the first to number 17 the second... That has got to hurt. Especially in their homeland...

Developed by the brilliantly named and newly formed London based Slightly Mad Studios, with the PS3 coming out as the top format with 52% of the sales, while Xbox 360 takes 44% and PC and PSP have the remaining 5%
How nice 101% sales!!

btw, why do people still develop western games for PSP?

Do Chart-Track count the thousands of people who got ODST last weekend this week (pre-launch), or just add them to next weeks total?

Or just throw them in the bin entirely?

You have to wonder, is it the Slim effect or the Halo/Forza effect?
I'd wager its the Halo/Forza effect; much as there will probably be a change to PS3 sales when Uncharted 2 is released (though less of an impact than Halo)

I believe that any sales before the official release date are rolled into the day 1 sales, but I'm not 100% sure.

Its strange that NFS sold more on ps3 but Dirt 2 sold more on 360. I take it 360 racing fans are waiting for Forza rather then buying NFS.

NFS was always big playstation franchise....

I know I am!

(Although a pre-release demo of Shift might have convinced me to double dip... as it stands FM3 is my most-wanted game, and Shift might be a January sales purchase)

Holy shit at MW, Beatles didn't light shit on fire, strange.

What up with FC2? How have they tricked people into buying that again?

Lots of multiplatform games with the PS3 version coming on top!

Unless my eyes deceive the 360 has more multiplatform games coming out on top although I think its clear the slim is behind the PS3 software boost.

The next few months should be interesting.

I'm really surprised to see that Soul Calibur on the PSP is nowhere to be seen.

You'd think that the name, coupled with Kratos and a fairly heavy push through TV ads would have got it more sales.

The numbers are probably fairly close for each platform. The difference we're seeing is probably just a small statistical variance.

It dropped to 5 in the PSP chart in this, it's 2nd week on sale. It just didn't take off.

I'm Really hoping that Layton 2 beats Halo ODST - it won't due to the early launch and DAYONE gamers Vs the slow burn of the mums and dads but it'd be fantastic if it did.

I've got Layton pre-ordered so I get it Thursday, and may get Halo later on.

In the last week or two it dropped to NZ$58 (it was around $110 before), it's probably had the same drop in other PAL territories.

Only came across this interview today. It's a week old, so by GAF standards it is ancient and was probably already posted in an older thread.

Rivals Can't Compete With Guitar Hero

Guitar Hero’s European boss jokes about the competition, but is very serious about growing market share

Activision has told MCV it will keep aggressively growing its share of the music category through retail collaborations, new promotions and expansion to new genres.

The publisher was celebrating this week after the Guitar Hero franchise secured its first number one – Guitar Hero 5 managed to top the UK All Formats chart in just two days.

The game beat The Beatles: Rock Band, which had been on the market a few days longer and launched around Beatlemania hype.

It all bodes well as the firm plans to launch its DJ Hero and Band Hero games towards Christmas – despite the influx of other music games – according to Michael Sportouch, the European head of the Guitar Hero franchise.

“We are the clear leader of the category,” he said in an exclusive interview.

“I’m not here to talk about the competition, but one of our competitors we outsell nine to one, eight to one or seven to one depending on the week. The last GfK research showed that we have a 50 per cent market share of the music category – which includes Rock Band, Wii Music, SingStar and every other music game. That doesn’t mean we are complacent, we still have lots of consumers to attract and educate.”

But what of the pressure on retail to fit more and more different guitar, microphone and instrument packages onto store shelves?

He said: “One thing I do say to retailers is that they should stop selling those rival products which don’t sell through, and instead focus on the products that are selling through and generate retail value and return on investment.

“In order to keep our retail activity strong we have pursued a number of innovative retail executions. So far on Guitar Hero we have a very strong sell through curve and sell through ratio and we want to ensure that continue to stimulate demand. Retailers want to see those products keep moving in and out of the store – that’s something we work very closely with them on.”

WoW. Halo ODST lauchs at #4. Halo 3 launched at #1 and kept for some weeks. Seems like 360 is really doomed over here if Halo does not sell enough to be a top three game. I guess it will very probably leave the top ten next week.

Is ODST uncut (or without "Jugendfreigabe") ?

No it didn't. It launched on #2 (behind FIFA 08 PS2), the LE on #4. It stayed on #2 in the next week and the LE dropped out. After that it went #6, #10 and was out of the charts and never came back in 2007 not even around christmas.

Halo isn't a big franchise here and MS did a very bad job with the synchro and translation for ODST.

dolemite said:
So why exactly is Halo ODST on the list? Are these Day -2 sales?

MS shipped it a week earlier to the big eletronic chains and they sold it immediatly.
It's available since the 16th. And those chains sell the majority of the games.
Official release date was 22nd.

All small videogame shops got screwed big time as they received their shipments later and couldn't sell it before 19th/21st.
