Should MMA be outlawed in the US?

Seriously, MMA is a bloodsport. One step away from ancient Roman gladiatorial combat. Do we want America to be the kind of society that encourages this kind of psychotic violence and that encourages people to gather around and bloodthirstily and mouthwateringly cheer and egg on and get off to this kind of psychotic violence? Is this what civilized societies do? Does a civilized society put two people in a pit and have them kick the fuck out of each other for our entertainment? Really? I know people get hurt in boxing and football, but something is different with MMA. Some line has been crossed. We shouldn't allow the kind of stuff to be happening. What's next, allowing the running man or hunger games style "sports"?

No it should not be outlawed. New York is stupid. You can't sanction mma matches but you can watch child porn legally. How is that right?

Let's be honest. If The Running Man tv show existed, you would tune in every time.

I've often dreamed of a Big Brother season that introduces a serial killer as one of the housemates. Fuck I hated Big Brother.

Lets ban sandwiches too. I hate it when tomatoes get everything all soggy. CIVILIZATION for fucks sake!

Haven't more people died in Boxing than most other sports? Or more people with long lasting injuries in football than MMA? I don't know...there seem to be other things that are much more destructive. If it goes, then surely football and boxing HAVE to go by default since they have done worse, right?

Yep. I'd ban boxing too. There's pretty compelling evidence that all high contact "sports" lead to brain trauma, increases in depression, suicide, etc.

Even football has too high a risk in my opinion for a civilized society. Just ask Junior Seau. I can't really enjoy even football anymore.

Too late. Even our videogames involve murdering unlimited amounts of people.

MMA is probably safer than those sports.

"Safer"? lol. The amount of brain damage those guys must have. I don't think it should be outlawed. But I do think you have to be stupid to fight in it. Hell, even amateur boxing with head gear causes brain damage. I don't know about you, but I prefer keeping my brain cells.

No. OP you should feel bad for presenting such a weak argument, check out the actual injury stats compared to other sports and hang your head in shame.

SirChained, you too. In MMA if a fighter is knocked out the fight is over, unlike boxing where they stand you back up again and let you keep fighting. Also wearing boxing headgear means you don't get knocked out as easily, therefore you sustain way more brain movement in a fight than an MMA fight. Let's try and get some facts up in this thread people.

If it gets rid of all of those Tapout shirts? Sure

The only reason it should be taken off the air is because a lot of the fights are boring as shit, especially the big ticket ones.

Civilization is always ending. There's always a 'soothsayer' coming in and declaring "this! is the blight upon civilization that will lead to our downfall!"

What if it's not ending, what if one day people start to just not care about this topic anymore and eventually it's drained from our ever important civilization and we just go about on whatever course we were headed in.

Stop being so worried about it and have a sit down. Maybe some tea and read a book, then take a nap. The world will still be here when you wake up.

I personally don't care. I prefer boxing myself, if anything, or non-MMA martial arts sparring. But did you really expect a positive response to your question from MMAGAF?

You're misinformed. Taking a few shots to the head in an MMA fight turns out to be much less damaging to your brain that taking 100's of blows in a boxing match. Are there any former MMA fighters that ended up like Ali ? I don't think so.

Football is probably even more dangerous than boxing.

How about using them to look up statistics and scientific data on this instead of just making assumptions?

The difference is when you watch a football game kids don't go, "oh I'll put some pads on and tackle the shit out of somebody I don't like." Whereas, people who watch MMA almost always think they are tough shit and that it's alright to fight people. As a sport MMA is fine. My only problem is that it's way too easy for the sport to cross into real world life, which I have a problem with.
