Because they are private they get to make their own rules and choose who can be members. You never here of any issues at a country club? Any of you members at a country club

Some friends were a member of the local golf club / country club back home. I used to go down. It was nice.

What's your issue? These people pay, it's a private place. They aren't hurting anyone. They're not even doing anything immoral or annoying. Ffs.

High tea is the bees knees.

I think the issue is that a lot of them are invite only, so they tend to have very um. Same looking patrons.

Some of them are really nice tho. We used to go to one which was just pay for membership (none of that invite nonsense) when I was in high school. It was good for swimming.

My friend's father is a member at a local country club. They invited me to play a round for free a couple weeks ago. We were on the first tee getting ready to start and a club official approaches my friends dad, and he turns to me and says "you're gonna have to buy a pair of shorts in our pro shop, because we don't allow cargo shorts on our course".

Yes, the pair of pockets on the front of my shorts meant they were not OK at this country club. LOL

So I was escorted into the shop and shown a couple shorts to buy. They were $50 shorts.

Thankfully my friend's dad insisted he pick up the tab since he didn't warn me of the ridiculous rules.

Yeah, country club's are kind of stupid.

Lol this guy here told me, I don't mind diversity as long as it's kept out of my club and neighborhood

The rest of my extended family are members of one, but my immediate family decided against it. It's nice to go to for certain family events, but the food gives my stomach a good bit of trouble and I can't stand the people there. I will never join one as that money can be used for more fun and enjoyable things my future family will do together.

My family had a membership at two clubs when I was growing up and it was awesome. Giant pool to swim in. Unlimited golf and tennis. Good food. I spent nearly every day of summer during my childhood at our club.

Golf is where it really pays off. If you play often it can get expensive to even play at public courses. I played so much golf we definitely came out ahead on the membership dues.

My first job in high school was a bus boy cleaning tables at a country club.

Banging middle aged trophy wives of rich old men was never better.

Except everyone who belongs to the country club knows the rules so it really isn't an issue. Actually, as a rule, do not wear cargo shorts to a nice golf course, country club or not. You may think it's snooty but think of it as a uniform, common to all sports.

I bet minorities love the membership exclusivity.

Country clubs only really have 1 requirement..money. There may be a couple exceptions to the rule but you'd be hard pressed to find 5 of them in the US.

Not a country club, but a private member's club in London.

It's nice to have somewhere in central to escape crowds and just sit down without feeling obliged to buy coffee. They do lots of social events, which makes meeting people a lot less difficult.

They were nice shorts with a pocket on the front. I've worn them at a dozen other golf courses around here, and never had a problem.

One country club and suddenly there is a problem. It's snooty.

Coming from the state of Georgia, and as a family that was a member of a CC, let me say that there certainly are a few clubs that have unspoken rules regarding membership. The whole "rowdy" clause.

It's fucked but it's still around.

My brain blanked when I read the title, I was expected a night club that was country themed.

I have no clue why.

I have really fond memories of country clubs when I was younger...used to go to them all the time growing up.

Now I live in New York City so...I don't tend to go all that often anymore.

Guys, let's start our own country club for Gaffers only. Well call it the Donkey Kong Country Club. We'll play nothing but games that has Donkey Kong in it.

My ex's dad lives in a private neighborhood with a golf course going through it and there's a country club just a block over. To be rich...

I got the same shit at my father in laws country club in Florida, in the bar. They made me tuck in the flaps, lol. Then some douche walks in the bar in a ratty ass tank top and they said nothing. Assholes.

I bet a lot of under-the-table gay sex goes down at these clubs. Older bisexual Republicans have been suppressing those desires since middle school. Only with their wealthy friends do they let these feelings come through.

To be fair cargo shorts are absolutely disgusting and no one should be wearing them.

What does a country club offer? I guess they have sport facilities, a restaurant, bar possibly a ball room members can use/rent? I guess it's mainly an extension of the English club.

Usually they're centered around golf clubs and/or tennis facilities. Some will also offer a pretty nice gym and pool(s).

There's a social element with weekend events - such as charity dinners or balls. The clubhouse has relatively mediocre food, although the weekend brunches are usually pretty good.

In terms of renting facilities, most clubs will actually let non-members rent them out - e.g. schools for Proms.

Country clubs feel like an escape, a place where you can get wild on your own and have a hell of a lot of fun. Not exactly PC fun though!

Not for me. It's one thing go be privileged and cognizant of that.

Outright snobbery like what you find a Country club is too much. I find people with a chip on their shoulder, always trying to prove something, and I can't stand it
