I don't think I can ever play a 30fps game again

I fired up the Forza Horizon 2 demo last night and thought I would give it a try. Going into it, I knew it was 30fps...but I thought, if I can deal with it, maybe I will enjoy it. Nope. As the cut scenes finally finished and the racing started, I immediately saw the cringing 30fps blurriness in the background. Being so used to 60fps Forza 5, I couldn't stand playing FH2 for barely a couple of minutes before exiting to the home screen of my Xbox One and doing something else.

I'm not sure why people are still content with playing 30fps games when we have the full capability to render 60fps today. No amount of excuses are really granted as to why developers don't achieve 60fps, it just doesn't make any damn sense.

Devs aim for visuals more than the framerate. To them, they are happy they achieved 30fps for the amount of visuals they poured into the game. Why console people defend this practice is beyond me.

...blurriness?

Also we almost always had the capability to render at 60 FPS. Well, at least for a long time without much compromises on gameplay systems.

Just as long as you don't feel the need to tell everybody on this forum about how unplayable games running at that framerate are, it's okay.

As someone who really doesn't like racing games, I hate Forza 5 and absolutely adore Forza Horizon 2. FH2 is also one of the prettiest games I have ever played. The 30 FPS does not bother me one bit.

30 fps "blurriness"? The game has far better IQ than Forza 5, which is 60 FPS.

I have a free voucher if you want it OP?

:p

I'd argue that you haven't played enough 60fps games.

If I suddenly realized I could never play games like God Hand, Metal Slug, Jet Set Radio, and Vanquish again I would be pretty bummed out.

sorry to hear that OP

For me, it really depends on the game. A platformer like 3DW needs to be 60 fps. A console Zelda has a different feel and can work well at 30 fps, for me.

I won't miss out on a game because it is 30fps but I am making an exception regarding the apparent 30fps lock of The Evil Within on the PC as the choice is being taken away to decide.

Going back to 30fps can be quite jarring to begin with but I do get used to it if that is the only option (as with locked-down settings of a console game).

fps has nothing to do with blurriness ............

Yes it does. When I play Diablo III and the shit starts dipping below 60fps because of all the crap on the screen...there's a blur...stutter, whatever you want to call it...I call it blur, it's annoying.

We've had the capability render 60FPS across the globe as soon as PAL wasn't used any more, and for NTSC countries even longer.

Might as well sell that XB1 then

Blur is not stutter. Using your own definitions for words does not convey your point.

Yeah, you really should think long and hard about switching to PC. 30fps will be the standard going forward on consoles.

Why does 30fps have to be the standard going forward on consoles? Who declares this? What is the fascination with staying in the 30fps realm? I simply do not understand this.

Again, I go back to the analogy of blu-ray vs DVD...if you have a blu-ray player...why would you ever watch standard definition again unless it was purely the only option?

As a PC player, I'll happily downgrade graphical fidelity to get a good, stable framerate. Every time.

Yes. Destiny gives me a headache and the only other games I've played on my PS4 are TLoU and Pinball FX/Arcade.

I hope I can adjust because I want to love my PS4.

Welcome to the world of PC Gaming then. 60 FPS is likely never going to be standard on consoles. Hell some devs even try locking it out on PC these days.

A little bit hyperbolic don't you think?

.

Forza Horizon 2 and DriveClub have good reasons for their 30 fps setting. After playing DC for a few hours, I don't think it's necessary. As long as the framerate is constant there isn't an issue. Would 60 be better? Of course. But it is in no way unplayable.

After playing The Last of Us Remastered I have to say that I feel that 60fps should be a much higher priority this gen than last gen.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I am willing to sacrifice some visuals to get a steady 60fps.

The Last of Us and Metro Redux proved that you can have great looking and 1080p/60fps

The developers choose to use 30fps to up other aspects of the visuals. I thought this was obvious by now.
