This half season is starting off on the right foot. Thanks GAF, for pointing out all the time line stuff of the episode. Very cool!

Also, Abraham and crew looked perfect.

I'm still confused about the shoe. It did look like Mika's but then she never got close to the walkers where Tyreese was fighting until Carol brought her and Lizzie there so I don't get it...

Very good point. Just remembered back in the premiere episode she told Daryl that she doesn't cry about death anymore. Kirkman and Gimple were right, there are definitely a lot of nice little touches in this back half that relate to events that transpired in the first half of the season.

That explains the crying but not why they focus on the shoe unless they're foreshadowing. Just seemed so out of place in an episode where everything else is linked.

Not really,
she said she arrived at the prison just as the fighting was ending and managed to follow them into the woods
.
Right. I popped in to see how everyone was doing even though I'm not welcome and saw the place on fire and takes you even though Daryl hadn't been able to.

She popped into view out of nowhere.

Also, the fresh blood Daryl found was undoubtedly from Tyrese's reopened wound..

That's pretty much par for the course when it comes to previews though. If things like that bother you, maybe you should stop watching them? ;)
Fair enough. =D I will definitely be skipping previews for this show going forward. I'm not expecting Mad Men level of vague-ness but still think they should have left that out of the preview... especially since it plays on AMC immediately before the new episode airs.

Decent episode. The out-of-order presentation was a great way to depict disorientation in the group.

I didn't like the direction the show was pushing with Lizzie and Judith. Maybe I should blame Tyreese though. He left Judith with her. He also sucks at fighting; he couldn't even save the people he encountered.

Also, Lily "died offscreen". Should Talking Dead have acknowledged that?

the other kids are probably dead huh

just watched last night's episode. Glad to have Carol back. And Glenn is lucky as hell

Just wish last night's Talking Dead was OnDemand so I could watch it

edit: Stupid Comcast. It only has the SD feed of last night's Talking Dead available OnDemand, not the HD feed

Gale Anne Hurd sort of touches upon it in this interview:

Yahoo TV said:
Because we're catching up with so many of the survivors at the same time, which is within a relatively short time frame, and roughly right after they fled the prison, we don't know exactly what order things are happening in. So, there's a scene where Daryl and Beth happen upon walkers chowing down, and there's a black shoe on the ground that looks just like the ones Mika was wearing. Should that worry us, that her shoe, or a shoe that looks like hers, was in a pile alongside dead bodies? Or is it a coincidence?

As I said, there's always a reason behind our choices. We don't do anything particularly random.

It's amazing how dumb the people in this show are.

Beth: Hey, there's a dead person on the ground. Let me step over it because it's not like the dead are coming back to life.

Sasha, Maggie and Bob: Lets let the walkers out one at a time. Nevermind that they're probably all going to push their way out.

Beth again: I'm in the middle of the woods listening and looking for walkers, and yet one sneaks right up on me.

Lizzie: I'm in the woods and my sister is yelling something, but I'm too busy suffocating this baby.

Ugh. And I was hoping they'd skip the *comic spoilers*
Negan plotline
because it's just plain tedious at this point and that character is so corny. If they do the whole *comic spoilers*
Kingdom bit with the tiger and the guys speaking like a Shakespeare play
this show might unwittingly become a comedy. As is the acting is about as awful as it gets with the exception of Tyrese, Carol, Sasha and Bob.

I have no idea who cuts the previews, but they really should be a little more conscious of things like that.

Just saw the episode and hated it. I think it's unfair how some of yall are saying we are just bitching just to bitch and how we'll be here next week. I've praised episodes that I think deserves it and dogged crappy ones that deserves it. I'm not going to like every episode just because I follow the show.

With this episode, I'm surprised at how many of yall actually liked it. I don't get the casting director. They have some good actors to okay actors to a lot of terrible actors. I guess it's difficult having an eye to notice talent.

The good:
Beth's narration
Timeline jumps. Made the pacing better than the previous episode.
Lil Asskicker lives yes!
Carol returns!
Bob smiling
Zombie head bashing was nice

The bad:
Beth walking over a "dead" walker. Why take the chance? You've seen them play dead, only to lunge and bite a calf when someone comes near. You didn't inspect if they were dead. Why risk walking right over them?
Hugging zombies. Sometimes, I think the zombie just wants to dance with their victims or say a friendly hello.
The kids' lines. I guess I'll give the benefit of the doubt that they're just kids and say random things but their lines were so cringe-worthy.
Tyrese leaving the children in the woods to run to the screams. Really? This was a good idea?
Bus scene. Bob "We have to [kill the zombies] together. Smart." The scene right before that had zombies sticking their heads out the window...nah, let's try and release them one at a time instead.
Glenn bulldozing through dozens of zombies.

The ugly:
Blazing cars are like naughty magazines in the MGS series.
I really hope they give a better explanation how Glenn started where he was because it's so random.
I wish they at least tried to put some intentionally comedic moments in the episodes. Something as small as having Tyreese getting a whiff of Judith's diapers and having an unpleasant reaction would've added some comic relief.
Those 3 characters at the end. I don't even know what to think of their looks yet lol.
The show continues to display characters' lack of logical thinking.

I'll be returning to TWD next week. :p

That explains the crying but not why they focus on the shoe unless they're foreshadowing. Just seemed so out of place in an episode where everything else is linked.

According to the Walking Dead wiki, the shoe was Luke's (the boy who was with the sisters when they ran out and decided to get guns in "Too Far Gone"). Supposedly, Luke and Molly (the other girl with the group) ran away and were eaten by the walkers by the tracks.

They foreshadowed this by having Beth guess that the trail of footprints (that were several hours old) belonged to Luke.

To be fair, that is the case with some people (though granted not everyone and certainly not you). Pop in -> say how shitty the show is -> pop out -> repeat next week. There's nothing wrong with being negative, but, I mean, I think people should at least try to explain a little why they think what they think or at the very least be specific about the things they don't like (or do like).

Carol mentored a psychopath! "She didn't know" is not an excuse!
:p

Anyways I was wondering if they'd twist the characters make Mika the psychopath. That's pretty much over though.

My thoughts:

+ Enjoyed the whole "Rashomon" style of having the same location be seen at different times/perspectives
+ a large dose of continuity (Glenn getting items seen in previous episodes, like the red backpack from "Clear" and his riot gear)
+ Effectively showed the survivors struggling to cope with their situation (Maggie's crazy obsession with finding Glenn, Bob's strange cheerfulness)
+ Tara has apparently become a badass (able to get headshots while running, saves Glenn's life)
+ Loved the introduction of Ford and his crew
+ The narrative is strong enough to work in an episode focusing solely on secondary characters
+ Carol and Judith are still alive
+ Glenn has taken a big step up, and proves to be a badass after spending a season relegated to the sidelines
+ Lots of action in this episode; loved the multiple stages of the "railway fight" (Tyreese vs. walkers, Daryl/Beth vs. remnants) and the bus battle
+ Liked the fact that it subverted a lot of standard cliches (Tyreese fails to save the father/son being attacked, Ford's group apparently watches Tara dispatch a walker by herself)

- I still don't get what they're trying to accomplish with Beth; she's a moron, and the whole framing device didn't do much than to establish that she's having another meltdown. I thought we covered this whole thing in S2?
- There had better be some big payoff with Lizzie/Mika's storyline, because it isn't clear now. Lizzie is amoral/possibly sadist (willing to save Glenn's life in the prison, but wants to smother Judith to death to "keep her quiet") and Mika is still a non-presence
- the preview apparently spoils
Tara's death, as there's a scene with Ford telling Glenn not to sacrifice himself as well

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the molotov was originally intended to be used on the zombies but for whatever reason (maybe time or budget ) they changed it at the last minute. It didn't make much sense.

Had to have been a change since it was stupid. Why light the car on fire when you could do the same to the zombies and get the same effect plus you'd burn a few.

Is there a screen cap of the shoe? I'm totally blanking on that scene.

Scalemail Ted seems to easy access to them so hopefully he drops by again. :p

But yeah, it was most likely a shoe from one of the other two kids. The thing that throws me off is that I remember after the scene where Daryl and Beth come upon the remains, I thought the camera focused on Mika's shoes when introducing Tyreese's group this episode.

It could be that but I don't think even AMC is stupid enough to spoil a character death like that. I think it has to do with Glenn wanting to search for Maggie while Abraham thinks it's a waste of time. The use of "her" is a nice way to throw off the audience though since Tara is with them.

The zombies would still be walking except on fire. And Glenn ran right into the middle of them. :p

Yeah,
This is a closeup of the shoe:

It is found in the bottom left of this scene:

So therefore the child it belongs to is also in the bottom lefthand corner of initial attack:
3cvo5MY.png

My prediction is that the woman's repeated screams that Tyreese heard was when her child was attacked by walkers. In an effort to protect him, she also got herself bitten by the same walker. By the time Tyreese arrives, only the 2 men are left and fighting. These men knew about Terminus and said it was safe, so I don't think they were from the prison.

Ahh, thanks!

That sounds like a pretty low key explanation, and if that is the case, then I wonder why Gale Anne Hurd was so ambiguous with her response in that interview?

EDIT: After rereading that interview, I'm thinking that
the shoe by the mother/daughter corpse was foreshadowing the death of Mika and/or Carol...

Yeah, who knows what they will do to fill in those extra 4-5 hours lapse between groups. But there was definitely a fatality in the proximity of where that shoe was found. They've been pretty good at seeding items this season as well. The orange backpack has made an appearance and the Bob's bottle of liquor also reappeared both to serve in Glenn's escape.

I was confused by the black shoe and who Beth was crying for since it wasn't Mika.

But I checked the wikia and they're saying the bodies could possibly belong to the boy and girl kids that separated from Lizzie and Mika at the prison.

So watched last nights episode but I finally got started on the comic. Started compendium 1 and ordered the 2nd one since it was $25. Anyway damn comic is a good read so far just got to ch 4 and it's crazy seeing all the differences from the show. Can definitely see why they changed some things though.

I enjoyed this episode more than the previous one at least. Hope they keep the groups smaller like this, I like it a lot.
Few points to make:

- Why are so many people happy about the baby being alive? They had a perfect opportunity to kill her of in the prison raid without even showing it. Now it will just bring the show down whenever she is in the scenes.

- I don't know if I just haven't noticed it before but it's really starting to bug me that the walkers aren't going in for the bite. Carl's adventure in the house and Beth in the woods comes to mind. They just grab you and seem confused about what to do now.
At the same time everyone else outside the group seems incompetent as hell. The guy near the tracks just kept swinging the air while the walker came at him and took a bite. Just hit him in the head ffs.

- Tyreese really drew the short stick this time. Babysitting three kids and
having your replacement to show himself, Ford.

- Daryl should go down guns blazing or in some heroic sacrifice. His story arc seems done. He is just the shows badass factor. Whenever they need an awesome walker kill, queue Daryl.

Talking Dead’s Inside The Dead:
  • Many cast members came to watch [Glenn’s riot gear] shoot because it was one of the last at the prison. Co-EP Denise Huth said that it was “like saying goodbye to a character.”
  • Lauren Cohan thinks being on the road is less dangerous than being under attack at the prison. However, the worst thing would be if Maggie never finds Glenn.
  • Five sets of twin girls have played the role of Judith. However, for more intense scenes, stunt dolls are used.

PLEASE SPOILER TAG ALL PREVIEW/PROMO AND GRAPHIC NOVEL DISCUSSION. REVIEW THE OP FOR COMPLETE THREAD RULES ON SPOILERS.

I'm in the minority of being glad that Judith is still alive.

Overall, I liked the episode, but it did have a few wtf moments. Looking at you Glen, deciding to run straight into a group of walkers?!?!? Why not at least try to go around the side? You had some room.

Also, Tyreese won't be winning father of the year by leaving those girls all alone while he investigated screaming.

Carol, why the hell did she just leave that guy at the train tracks to die and turn into a walker?? It would have made more sense to take that guy out and have one less walker to deal with later.

Terminus???? Didn't pause the screen while I was watching, so I could be way off, but it looked like it was near Macon.

Yay for Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita!

same with phone

who is phone?

Comic phone is vastly superior to tv show phone.

I doubt it.
Glenn has no way of knowing if Maggie has "sacrificed" herself, and the way the shot is framed indicates that he's looking at something on the road that's causing him to be distressed.
.

Also, keep in mind that this is AMC we're talking about. Just about all their previews are spoiler-laden or assume that the viewer has been following the show to date. For new viewers, it's spoiler city anytime a promo comes on.

No, it was fairly clear in its intent.

1) The body the shoe belonged to was almost/completely eaten when Tyreese and Beth happened upon the scene.
2) Had a child been involved, we likely would have heard the requisite screams. The only thing that was heard were the mother's screams, and we see her dead on the ground when Tyreese shows up.
3) They foreshadowed Luke/Molly's deaths by having Beth reference the fact that the footprints belonged to the former, and Daryl saying they're several hours old.

The timeline is as follows:

- Luke/Molly are fleeing through the forest; get attacked/eaten by walkers at train track
- the family heading towards Terminus (Christopher and his mother/father) come upon the scene, and the mother is attacked
- Tyreese runs in, can't save the son from being killed and father from being bit
- father tells Tyreese/Carol/kids to go further down the tracks
- father turns after they leave, additional walkers show up
- Beth/Daryl come upon the site, dispatch remaining walkers and find Luke's shoe

The show does a fairly good job of not holding the viewer's hand and giving just enough information to ascertain what's going on. Not sure why it's so difficult for some people to understand.

I might need handholding to know who Luke and Molly are. Could you say who they are?

The two kids who were at the prison, and were shown during Carol's "school" scenes and during the attack in "Too Far Gone". It was quick, but they were shown.

They were seen running off when Lizzie saved Tyreese by shooting Alisha.

Anybody find it suspicious how all the people in the bus died? Let's look at the facts:

- doors were closed; no signs of forced entry or exit
- it's only been like a day since they left the prison, so they probably didn't starve to death
- bus was stopped straight on the road; didn't swerve off out of control
- bullet holes in the back of the bus

The bullet holes could have been from the prison battle or even earlier, but it's not likely to have devastated the entire bus since they were able to get as far away as they did. Possibilities:

A) Couple of people died from sickness/injury on bus, then proceeded to zombify everyone else without anyone escaping
B) Some other group of survivors came and shot them up while on the road
C) The writers said "Fuck it, they died on the way back to their home planet"

My "problem" with Judith being back is that I don't want to see babies suffering. I know this may sound ridiculous in the context of this series, but yeah. That scene where Lizzie tried to suffocate her was very uncomfortable.

If they're planning to somehow include Judith in (comic spoilers)
a version of what happens with Billy and Ben
, then holy shit...

The thought crossed my mind, but nah, there's no way this show has the balls for that.

Prove me wrong, showrunners!

Up until now I've been watching the show via Amazon - the following Monday of course. Now I have Comcast but it seems the show is only available in SD on Sunday nights. The AM HD channel just runs old episodes.

Does the show run in HD on Dish or Direct TV? I can't watch this in SD.

What didn't you like about it?
I've been a big fan of a lot of the show, and usually defend it, but in the latest seasons the writing is just getting to lazy, lets just do this for a plot point no matter how dumb it makes the characters look.tyrese shenanigans, Glen runs right through crowd of zombies instead of around them, Maggies school bus stupidity, Beth doesn't notice zombie right there, everyone trying to go off alone, more people thrown in just to be eaten quickly, simply no reason for those guys to leave the train tracks, Carol arrives just in time to follow Tyrese of all people. Glen closes door with sun shining in to walk through dark prison with hardly any light even though there's no way for zombies to get up there.
