Sad.

Shameful

Next month, ''Nintendo's profit margins are greater than MSFT and SNE as they sell less consoles''

What wind? What sails? Instead of selling 100% of available stock they will sell...100% of available stock? You keep repeating it but where is the math behind your momentum?

If Sony doesn't get its act together they'll never sell more than 100% of their available stock.

If Xbox One is selling at 90% or more of PS4 sales, even with a $100 higher price point, Sony needs to rethink what they're doing. Are PS4 still out of stock widespread in places or no?

We could probably see Xbox One outsell PS4 again if March sales include the TitanFall bundles which I'm sure didn't count in February since they were only pre-orders.

I've historically maintained that, at least for the US, Sony's first party has never really been competitive with Microsoft.

Sony needs a good multiplayer hit, a bigger RPG, and/or some stronger shooters that are well regarded for their shooting.

I'm more surprised that someone has a Windows Phone :O.

Pathetic.

I'm glad Xbox had a great month. No need to bend PR bullshit math when you're supposed to be a fucking news outlet.

Disgraceful

That title is still on the Homepage of IGN, but if you go to the article itself, they renamed it...

Not much better though...

PlayStation 4 Outsold Xbox One in February, But Not By Much

I'm absolutely confounded by you. In your own post you acknowledge they can't sell more and yet you say "there is nothing that will push sales." I think you are just trying to get my blood pressure up.

It's software that is pushing XBone sales. I think XBone is closing the gap because of hype about Titanfall and Titanfall will push XBone into first place. Compelling software is not the driving force behind PS4 selling well. Does that make sense?

I'm assuming they just got the Microsoft press release and went with what it said, since the PlayStation comment came from NPD.

Yeah I tend to agree with this. They could be stepping on Microsoft's throat in NA right now, but they are giving them time to get their shit together.

It's hard to believe the X1 will ever be competitive in many of the other regions Sony is selling well in; Sony should be taking advantage of things now and diverting more stock to NA to build on the lead in Microsoft's best territory.

lightning should be the new protagonist of kingdom hearts 3

mwahaha
Wrong she will be the protagonist and the sidekicks for KH3.

That's not ambitious enough.
Lightning to b main god, protagonist, antagonist, supporting characters, anti-hero, enemies, weapons and more of all SE games

No exceptions. All SE games will be retconned to fit this agenda, and SE will pay the UN to build a machine like the Whisperer in The Mysterious Benedict Society to make it such that never remember anything different. Everyday, EVERYONE in the world will pray daily to our new virtual goddess

Not cracking up while typing that has to be one of the most strenuous activities I've ever done

What are all the major 3rd party successes on 3ds
I would imagine Monster Hunter. Bet RE:R might slowly being getting up there, slowly reaching profitability. KH? SMT4? ZE2/VLR (know it bombed but how badly)? SSF4 (Think this did well being best game at launch)? Castlevania (think another bomber)? Tom Clancy? MGS Snake Eater 3D (think this under performed, but 1-3 HD at same time was dumb move)? AA Dual Destinies (likely limited b/c only digital US/Europe)? EO4? RF4? etc.

Off the top of my head nothing else.

Is there a ranking list?

Oh, and didn't see 3ds sales for npd

I assume you're talking for the US? in Japan, 3DS titles (like Monster Hunter) did very well. Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins did pretty well on 3DS (over 300K in 2013) although Nintendo may have published that. However, since then most Lego titles have been doing pretty well on 3DS. Not sure what other 3rd parties are doing super well on 3DS in the US. I think the 1st party titles have generally been selling better than expected (especially the RPG types like Fire Emblem).

I'm with you, man. Never said anything 'bout XBO beating PS4 in March, either. But some folks are funny like that.

I'm just curious: know for a fact MK on Wii outsold Smash on Wii, but have DD and MK64 outsold their respective SS counterparts? I'm thinking "no", and anedoctally speaking I know people holding out on a WiiU just for Smash, MK's just more like a bonus.

As for 3D World boosting sales in Nov and Dec, I don't know about that. Wii U is bundled with NSMBU now and was bundled w/ Skylanders starting Nov. I'd think getting those free games w/ a system would push sales more than having to pay an extra $60 for a game alongside that console purchase.

Actually, Mario Kart generally does sell better than Smash Bros with the only time Smash winning over Mario Kart being on the GameCube and that was basically a tie with the best of Smash, Melee, going against one of the weaker Mario Karts, Double Dash. What might end up hurting Wii U sales is Smash Bros being on the 3DS, as now the casual Smash Bros fans could just play on their 3DS to get their fix. Wii U's biggest competition is not the PS4 and XB1, but the 3DS, 360, and PS3.

so would i be crazy to expect xb1 to overtake ps4 in march?

No, but I think it's going to be really close. Sony's been positioning a massive influx of PS4s in time for the second half of the month here, with key releases like inFamous: Second Son and MGS5:GZ to spearhead the shipment. It's going to be a real tight one, I think.

You can't close a gap by selling less, by definition.

In general.

Either way, while the 3ds is definitely not Nintendo only, it feels like Nintendo stepped up their game a bunch with it while 3rd parties have slacked more. A bunch of the best 1st party game for the Ds were somewhat more niche, although MKDS is one of the best MKs ever.

I can't believe The Lego movie Videogame is #2. I think I'm underestimating the popularity of that movie. I'm wondering if its the movie that made it sale, or it just being a Lego game in general?

Thats not really their style IMO. And they don't have the deep pockets to throw down and fail on a risky bet. Could easily bankrupt them if it doesn't work out. They can't afford to bed everything on a Titanfall, even if they're pretty, kinda sure it's a good bet.

They've always, IMO, funded a lot of smaller genre titles that appeal to different demo's that make up their customer base. It's a focus on quality and breath of offerings. When something hits it off as more than that, they run with it and put more support behind it (your TLOU's, Uncharted, God of Wars, ect). It's a safer game plan to let them show up organically. Meanwhile they also support their older IP's a little longer than their expiration date, even if it means small losses.

So all the different factions have their games.

@Y2Kev

There's your magic word. Opinions don't need a base, that's why they're called opinions. If every opinion needed a base, most religions wouldn't exist.

What? The gap was 135k, then 30k. Next month they will be ahead. That is closing a gap.

I smell a bet incoming.

Well it costs $500 vs. $400 and sold pretty close to the PS4 so it's very possible.

That is true ... All supplies being equal

The problem is, one of those has been supply constrained all February while the other has not. You cannot conceivably ignore the supply factor

March has seen a much better supply

Titanfall is actually a pretty cheap game. The dev team is only 80 people.

That said Respawn caliber staff isn't easy to come by.

Good increase for Xbox One, and strong hold for PS4 despite the supply issues. Safe to say the US market is doing well for next-gen consoles (minus the Wii U).

Titanfall is no doubt having a large part to do with the increase in February for the Xbox One. March will see an even greater boost to weekly Xbox One and PS4 numbers. Xbox One is effectively getting a price drop, and Titanfall is releasing.

I also believe it's a 5 week month for March, so you could see a scenario where at a minimum Xbox One does 322K and PS4 does 358K. I wouldn't be surprised to see both Xbox One and PS4 above 400K each for March, which would be a massive month. Going to be a toss-up as to which one sells more. If PS4 has enough supply, I think it will edge out the Xbox One despite Titanfall.

April is when things get a bit more interesting as things "normalize", with both consoles not having very many releases and the Titanfall effect will be fading. I suspect it will be back to business as usual with PS4 outselling the Xbox One by a 50% margin as PS4 supply should be more replenished for April.

As for Titanfall's software sales, Xbox One has 2.2 million LTD userbase in NA. I'm going to assume it receives a 30-40% attach rate, so anywhere between 600-750K. Note that Gears of War sold 1 million when the 360's userbase was 3.4 million in the US. It's going to be the highest selling title for the month, followed by InFamous which I think will capture around 350-500K in sales.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
I wanna know how SE feels about passing on publishing BD, now wondering what happens to the sequel, lolol.

Nintendo most likely acquired rights for the remaining entries of the series while drafting the contract. SE most likely passed on the opportunity on publishing the title as they wanted to limit their costs in NA.
