Titanfall boosts Xbox One UK sales by 96%, Tea and Crumpets for all!

The usual apology I read here at GAF was "They wait a week before releasing data". I dont know if thats a good sign though.

For a total user base of 3 million on XB1 it was never going to sell gangbusters day one unless pc seriously picked up the slack. At least in comparison to highs of other major franchises. They'll probably want to wait until the 360 release to say anything concrete.

Xbone user base is at least 3.5 million at this point, and that's assuming it hasn't sold outside the US for awhile now.

Edit: vv I have no clue what that is supposed to mean and what I'm supposed to say. vv

Wasn't enough in case of BF4. Xbox One userbase is the smallest of all platforms http://bf4stats.com

There's other factors like brand association and heavy PR talk like "Titanfall will be better on Xbox one thanks to the cloud"

So if we dump in a pot timed dlc exclusivity, brand association and heavy pr talk about why the game will be better on their platform, you'll get a bigger user install base on Xbox one

You'd have thought that with all the stories of the Wii U's sales, more of you guys would've been wary of percentages in PR statements.

This is comparing week for week sales. It's true; telling everyone that next week you're going to drop the price, include a copy of Titanfall and throw in a copy of Battlefield 4 or FIFA 14 for £20 will pretty much guarantee that your sales will be a lot stronger.

From my anecdotal experience, sales have increased, but not nearly as much as anyone was expecting. We ordered way too much Titanfall copies, consoles and swag at my store that we're having to discount it by 10% just to move stock.

Meaningless without context. If the numbers for the game and X1 units sold were high enough to warrant touting, they would do so - unabashedly. MS are hardly subtle when it comes to self-promotion.

If Wed rolls around and all were getting are percentages and number of Titans dropped PR then there might be cause for concern. Wii U had massive boots in the UK too when some of its bigger games dropped. And that amounted to nothing.

Microsoft will pull a CoD with the next Titanfall.
It won't matter if TF2 runs at 60fps@1080p on ps4 and 60fps@900p on XB1. Microsoft will buy timed exclusivity for DLC and that's enough excuse for people to get the game on that console.
If it sells enough, Microsoft might make TF2 exclusive to X1, not even PC.

What is your definition of selling gangbusters? How much would it have to have sold in the UK in 3 days not including those who bought it digitally on the store?

That's not the important point.... the point is that'd require a ridiculous attach rate for them to be able brag about release numbers.

That's good news, it would be good if all consoles were selling healthy numbers.

I doubt it. EA will go where the money is, and that's fully multiplatform. Can't chase the COD dream on just one console.

That's to say if MS doesn't back up the brinks truck.

A few in uk several hundreds of thousands. You rarely see companies brag day one or release in just the uk and that's on an install base of millions.

Since when? Because they didn't even wait for the end of XB1 launch day to claim "1M sold, every retailer sold-out" left and right.

The game did only release on Friday in some markets, they don't usually release PR statements on a weekend. I assume they will be releasing numbers this week.

Fair enough, but that is the point. This game was supposed to be the gamechanger and was heavily marketed through any possible channel and is praised by the media. Obviously Titanfall couldnt generate that money or units sold that Microsoft and EA were expecting in 24 or 48 hours (with xbone and PC), so relying on 360 to "correct" the sales target is telling. I hope we get a press release soon from Microsoft, saying that they surpassed the 1 million. New IP is fine and all, but the longer they wait with positive PR, the more it seems to have performed below expectations and ergo couldnt help the xbone.

Doubt it but not completely.

It may happen, but I don't think EA will let a user base like the ps4 go since the ps4 userbase seems its going to be the bigger one compared to the other consoles.

I doubt Microsoft will be willing to pay what EA would want for that deal. They got this one because EA were clearly expecting the Xbone to trounce the PS4 in terms of sales (at least in the US). It'd take a lot more money for EA to forego releasing a potential sequel on the PS4 (and PC) now that things have panned out the way they have.

You originally said that DLC will be enough of an excuse. Now you're making much more sense.

The very fact they are quoting percentages and not real figures says it all.

Pretty much.

This is a change of 96% from the week before, and they quote no hard numbers. And we already know that it wasn't moving gangbusters in the UK after the initial launch anyways. This is PR made to sound more impressive than it actually is.

I am looking forward to some hard data eventually.

96% of what though?

That is the golden question. Why have they not given an actual number? Something doesn't seem right here.

This info is PR bullshit, if they don't tell the sales from the previous week in UK is useless..

This isn't PR.

Edit: Sorry double post

The strength of the game or what ever strength it'd have was always going to be long term, whether it fades into mediocre numbers or consistently puts up good numbers. It's a new IP mostly targeted towards a new console. Word of mouth and the translation of the word of mouth would always be the biggest maker/killer. Even if it did comparatively amazing it's kinda worthless for all involved if it has no legs.

Well deserved , Respawn created an awesome game
This exclusive deal was Microsoft´s step back into the game and I think they won´t give this charm away ;)

It's spinning. I didn't literally mean it came from the mouth of Microsoft. Percentages with no hard numbers to provide context, is pretty meaningless. Either tell us the numbers, or tell us what they did last week so we can figure out the numbers for ourselves.

So they better say numbers first, then per cents.

Chart track rarely provides numbers (as in almost never) that's why they're giving you percentages which is what they do with almost everything.
